Yuengling Supports Trump, And D.C. Is Acting Accordingly

Arithmetic this is not: The owners of (what used to be one of my favourite beers) Yuengling is backing Donald Trump’s Presidential run. As a result, many D.C. establishments are now boycotting the beer as a response. From Washington Post:

For 45 minutes, [Eric Trump & Dick Yuengling] walked through the brewery, talking about American success stories and the plight of U.S. businesses under the Obama administration (despite the fact that Yuengling has been described as Obama’s favorite brew).

“My father’s going to make it a lot easier for business to function,” Eric Trump told the room, according to the Reading Eagle. “We’re going to do it right here in the U.S.”

Then Yuengling, 73, who turned the struggling family business into a $550 million enterprise, who shoved the beverage into the marketplace and who oversaw its rise as a cheap but dignified working class beer, offered the embattled and nosediving GOP nominee a political gift: his company’s endorsement.

“Our guys are behind your father,” Yuengling said. “We need him in there.”

LOL: Soulja Boy Vs. Lil Yachty (Over India Love) (PICS)

UPDATE: As can be seen above, Soulja Boy continues to keep the spotlight with a Yachty diss track. We’ll add it here when it drops.

To try and paraphrase: Soulja Boy was posting pics of him and Insta-model India Love on social media. Next thing you know, Lil Yachty comes for Soulja, saying that India Love is his girl (which Soulja puts out there for the world to see). Then, India Love claims she’s never met Lil Yachty, which leads to Soulja Boy publicly slandering Yachty (with Yachty firing back). It all ends with Soulja (or someone) hacking his social media to reveal a nude pic of India.

You can check out the tweets below…honestly, this all sounds like scripted fraudulence for the next season of Desperate Fame Whores In Hip-Hop, or whatever it’s called.

Kevin Gates Gets 6 Months In Prison For Kicking Fan

From TMZ:

Kevin Gates is gonna do time for the crime of unloading a brutal kick on one of his fans … after she tugged at his shorts.

The rapper was found guilty of battery in the 2015 incident during a Florida club gig. The judge sentenced him to 180 days in Polk County Jail, and he was immediately taken into custody.

The video of the kick, which TMZ first posted, made it pretty clear Gates severely overreacted to the woman reaching for him from the front row, and the judge and jury agreed.

Cash Money Forced Damian Lillard To Remove Lil Wayne From His New Album

cvocengvmaas9in

As we posted before, Damian Lillard dropped a (surprisingly?) dope mixtape titled The Letter O, which features Jamie Foxx, Juvenile, Raphael Saadiq, Marsha Ambrosius and Lil Wayne — oh, wait:

Trump Hotel In D.C. To Change It’s Name

trump

…as will all of the Trump Hotels. In addition, the D.C. hotel has been reducing prices for rooms. Because — in a liberal city like D.C. — none of its residents really want to be giving money to any of Trump’s businesses in the first place.

From Curbed:

In a statement, Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said, “We wanted a name that would be a nod to the Trump family and to the tremendous success it has had with its businesses, including Trump Hotels, while allowing for a clear distinction between our luxury and lifestyle brands.”

Just recently, it was revealed that many rooms in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. have been lowering their prices by the hundreds. Rooms that regularly price at $750 per night have been asking under $500 per night. Additionally, a deluxe room that regularly asks $805 per night went for $404 per night.

Further insights into Trump Hotels showed that bookings plummeted by 59 percent during the first half of 2016, and foot traffic has dropped by 17 percent since June 2015, according to data from Hipmunk and Foursquare.

Autopsy Report Revealed Shawty Lo’s “Body Reeked of Booze”

slo

Damn. From TMZ:

The rapper’s autopsy report reveals Shawty suffered the blunt force injuries to the head when he was ejected from his vehicle in a car crash last month. The Fulton County Medical Examiner also found a prescription bottle on him labeled “Promethazine” … which was actually filled with Percocet and Vicodin.

The medical examiner goes on to say Shawty’s body bag emitted a strong smell of alcohol when opened … but the official toxicology results are not in yet.

Here’s another doozy … the medical examiner says 2 females were in the car with Shawty at the time of the crash, and asked cops on scene if they could take a bunch of cash out of his pockets. The cops allegedly let ’em do it … leaving behind around $16.

He was 52.

Logic Announces New Album, ‘AfricAryaN’

UPDATE: Logic speaks more on the album title below.

It looks like Maryland’s own Logic is jumping into the race conversation with a new album, titled ‘AfricAryaN’…and we already have an idea of what to expect.

Above lies Logic’s recent sit-down with Dan Harmon for his podcast, which sees him spitting some unreleased bars that delve into his own racial make-up (he’s mixed Black and White, by the way):

I feel the Aryan in my blood is scarier than a Blood / Been lookin’ for holy water, now I’m prayin’ for a flood / It feel like time passin’ me by slower than a slug … / But my beautiful black brothers wanna act like I’m adopted / Go back in time to when my ni**a daddy impregnated my cracker momma and stopped it / Somebody pinch me / Black man screaming, trying to convince me / I’m not black so why the white man wanna lynch me?”

DC STATEHOOD: What’s The Rush?!

DC faces a huge dilemma while approaching the precipice of statehood. There is a 13 foot donkey & a congressional woolly mammoth in the room.  The New Columbia Statehood Commission (which includes Mayor Muriel Bowser & Council Chairman Phil Mendelson) and DC Council have a historic, once in a lifetime opportunity. However, this opportunity also presents them with the chance to shape their legacies, along with shaping the paradigm of our nations 51st star. With potentially 440,000 voters headed to the polls on November 8, 2016, Council is trying to carpe the damn diem. Meanwhile, activists & lifelong statehood advocates are crying foul as accessibility to the process seems to have become more consolidated. Its kinda like Michael Jordan, palm gripping the basketball while the clock runs out.

The first public hearing (video) being held just this week (September 17, 2016).

Folks have been working on this legislation & it’s process for a long time. This process, referred to is the “Tennessee Plan”, takes advantage of powers given to Congress in Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution of United States of America.  As North Carolina was granted statehood they gave up territories west of the Appalachian mountains. The citizens of this now “left over” territory, having fought in the Revolutionary War, felt entitled to full citizenship. They gathered their proposal then petitioned congress for admission to the United States.

“The goal here is that, in January when we have a new president that we will petition the congress to adopt an admissions act, present to them a constitution, it will have been adopted by the council as well as propose boundaries.” Said Mendelson, City Council Chairman. Even the boundaries are still up in the air as a revision were being made just last week.

Congressional overseers can be found perpetually nit-picking in District matters big & small.  The latest and greatest technique has been through “rider” legislation that shapes and blocks was DC can spend its own money. Washington, DC, with almost 700,000 residents operates at a $200,000,000 surplus, has a more robust economy that many other states. However, because of congressional budget riders we’ve been unavailable to make decision for ourselves on:

  • Gun Control
  • Marijuana Legalization
  • Reproductive Health & Descrimination
  • Budget Autonomy
(The area outlined in the center of the “diamond” will remain the District of Columbia.)

Right now, if there is no change, council will have the last, lone word on how our constitution reads. The Advisory Referendum on the State of New Columbia Admission Act Resolution of 2016 will read:

To ask the voters on November 8, 2016, through an advisory referendum, whether the Council should petition Congress to enact a statehood admission act to admit the State of New Columbia to the Union. Advising the Council to approve this proposal would establish that the citizens of the District of Columbia (“District”)

(1) agree that the District should be admitted to the Union as the State of New Columbia; [Some suggested Potomac, Anacostia or (Frederick) Douglass Commonwealth (DC)]

(2) approve of a Constitution of the State of New Columbia to be adopted by the Council; (Draft, Report)

(3) approve the State of New Columbia’s boundaries (here), as adopted by the New Columbia Statehood Commission on June 28, 2016; and [A Council amendment recently reached out and touched two properties near the federal seat tapped for inclusion in the State of New Columbia; Joe’s seafood & the newly finished Trump Hotel]

(4) agree that the State of New Columbia shall guarantee an elected representative form of government.

Some who testified, threatened a vote of  “No” on November 8, 2016 unless the commission and DC Council makes this process more transparent. They are pleading for the opportunity to have a Constitutional Convention, an inclusive process that will pull in more perspectives to address a greater spectrum of concerns from District residents.

The Mayor and DC Council sit at a peculiar point in our history. As they stand to create their next position as well as the powers around it.  Currently, the constitutional draft would expand & transform the 13 member Council to a 21 member House of Delegates (though some are asking for as many as 41.) They can choose to dilute or retain powers as they shape what would become the New Columbia House of Delegates.  The constitutional draft would adds one additional seat from all eight wards of DC. New Columbia would have full representation in U.S. House and Senate. Most importantly, statehood will “#FreeDC” from congressional oversight. As if explaining DC’s status to your relatives isn’t tough enough already. “No, auntie. DC is not a part of Maryland or Virginia. Yes. We are awarded second class citizenship for our tax dollars.”

The next hearing will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 6:30 pm in The John Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC). Will you answer [X] “Yes” or [  ] “Nah”?

Video Appears To Show Famous Dex Beating His Girlfriend

Damn, bruh. Chicago rapper Famous Dex was just outed by Tish Hyman via a video that appears to show him beating her (or someone else, his girlfriend?) in an apartment hallway (complete with accompanying message). She also revealed text messages, which you can see here.

Shawty Lo Killed In Car Accident

Damn. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of D4L member (and Atlanta star in his own right) Shawty Lo, who was reportedly killed in a car accident early this morning. From FACT:

Mistakenly reported as a two-car hit-and-run originally, Fulton County police confirmed it was a single car accident. At approximately 2:20 AM Wednesday morning, Lo’s white Audi flipped over the guardrail on the I-285 southbound ramp before hitting two trees and bursting into flames. Walker was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on the scene. Two other passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

RIP Swipey

As most people in the DC area have probably seen already, 18-year-old DC rapper Douglas “Swipey” Brooks was killed this weekend in Prince George’s County. Swipey was someone we had our eye on over here, and honestly, I wish we had posted him more, but the energetic artist was so active with his music that it was sometimes hard to follow. He certainly was on to something with his music. Unfortunately, we will never know. Anyways, I’ve included some Swipey favorites below. If you’re a fan these songs are nothing new, but certainly an example of his promise.

R.I.P. Christopher Barry

Damn. You can read the full story here.

Marion Christopher Barry, son of the late D.C. mayor Marion Barry and former candidate for the Ward 8 council seat, has died, relatives confirmed Sunday. He was 36.

The younger Barry died of an apparent drug overdose, according to reports. His girlfriend found him, and he was taken to George Washington University Hospital.

Wale Starts Off President Obama’s Summer 2016 Playlist

The White House website just dropped President Obama’s Summer Spotify playlist for the second year in a row. Noticeably, Wale’s “LoveHate Thing” was the first track. Maybe this isn’t such a big deal; Wale already opened the State of the Union Address, and worked with the First Lady, but it’s still cool to see him get some more shine, alongside the likes of Nina Simone, Charles Mingus, Jay-Z and more. You can check out the playlist on Spotify.

Shadi Powers (Bankroll Fresh’s Uncle) Blasts DJ Vlad In Open Letter

We can’t help but agree with this. Check out what Shadi Powers (Bankroll Fresh’s uncle) had to say to DJ Vlad in light of his interview with “the guy who claims he killed Bankroll Fresh” (above):

Dear Vlad, (VladTV)

You disrespectful culture vulture. I offered you to talk to my family, (Bankroll Fresh’s family) when my nephew was first killed. Did you call us or reached out to the Street Money Worldwide family or his father and mother to get a rebuttal to No Plug’s story? None of that!

When I asked you to interview Bankroll PJ and how he was continuing the legacy, you had a subordinate call me to tell me, you’re passing on PJ. He had just released a new single out plus he’s starring in a new FX TV show (Atlanta) this fall with Childish Gambino but no that was too positive, huh? Not enough black on black crime?

But you gave this coward a forum and put this hating coon on your platform like it was some light humored story. Sitting there smiling and talking about how he love my family. Where was the remorse with all that chuckling? And then the story he was telling you were straight bullshit with more holes in it than the police’s reasons for killing Alton Sterling. You’re an poor excuse for an journalist, if we can even call you one. And while the whole black community were coming together to protest “cops killing black men”, you drop this one sided interview of an open investigation for an unsolved murder of Bankroll Fresh. Was that strategic Vlad? You wanted to show more black on black violence on the same day? All you do is take from our community!

My nephew is dead and you’re having a light humored conversation with an alleged killer like it’s just another interview with Taxstone or Charlamagne. What’s funny? This shit ain’t funny!!! Even as a responsible journalist or the leader of urban news as you claim, you should have had the rebuttal interview with our family and/or other people who was there. Then you let him talked without confirming anything beforehand? Did you talk to the D.A.’s office or the APD Homicide? Even if no charges was brought, it doesn’t explained the real truth on why he was at the studio in the first place! It’s only his side of the story! Where’s the other sides??? Where’s the TRUTH???

No other man of another color or race should have that much power over the narrative of what happens in black communities. Our stories, our lives and even our music and don’t even give back at all. And then you get slick every now and then and subliminally try to drop other vultures like Slim Jesus in our psyche to see if you can get away with it. You’re really a pornographer that found a better hustle: “pimping black culture”. I know you. I worked for you. You don’t give back to our community! How much of that 50K a month, do you donate to the black community. Ad agencies use your site to pimp everything from fried chicken to Coca Cola and pay you well. Words from your own mouth! Cavario from Don Diva warned me about you back then. Eben Gregory from Ebengregory.com warned me about you.

You’re worst than Harvey Levin over at TMZ but most of you cats who make money from black people stick together. Y’all always trying to get money out the hood, one way or another. Corner store or a rap label, covering urban culture or making black movies for black people. But you don’t give a damn about us, you’re worst than the police because you’re killing us slowly with the crap you feed our youth everyday. Just so you can get traffic and views because that’s the new “guns & butter”, advertising dollars for unique visitors. You think we’re stupid.

Since the Hip Hop Nation co signed you and every other idiot who want to be seen or want to remain relevant jumps in front of your camera on some “Steppin Fetchin” shit and take us back 50 years in morals and principle. The internet ain’t killing my people, you are with your VladTV. You’re irresponsible and you will be checked for it when the opportunity presents itself. Your end is near.

So are y’all finished or are y’all done??? You trying to destroy my nephew’s legacy after someone took his life? I’ll see you when I see you, clown. Let’s have some tea or break bread or something? But you will put some respect on Bankroll Fresh’s name. That’s a promise. Stay tuned for the real exclusive Bankroll Fresh news on Revolt, AllHipHop and WSHH among others, from my brother and Bankroll’s father, and COO, KRich, Street Money Boochie and Quick Trip from Street Money Worldwide. Shame on you, thief! There’s 3 sides to a story, there’s, our’s and the TRUTH!!! You should have done your job, crook! I’m still Nat Turner to you!!!!

CI_NintendoClassicMiniNES_PS_Announcement_MS7_image912w

As seen on The Verge:

Today the company announced what it’s calling the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. It looks just like a NES, only a lot tinier, and it comes with 30 games built in. You can connect it to your TV via a HDMI cable, and it also includes a controller designed to work just like the iconic rectangular NES gamepad. (The new controller will also connect to a Wii Remote, so that you can use it to play Virtual Console games on a Wii or Wii U.)

In addition to HDMI support and a lack of cartridges, the new mini-console also features one useful modern convenience: multiple suspend points, so that you won’t have to fumble around with passwords when you start playing a game again. The NES Classic Edition will be available on November 11th for $59.99.

D.C. Statehood Approved For November Ballot

yes_we_can_dc_statehood_now

From the Washington Post, where you can read more on the story (and you should, if you’re a D.C. resident):

A ballot referendum to split the nation’s capital into a new state for its residents and a smaller, federal district for government buildings and monuments is headed to D.C. voters in November.

The D.C. Council unanimously approved the referendum proposed by Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) on Tuesday, saying that, if approved, it could help pressure Congress to hold the first vote in more than two decades to allow D.C. residents to form the 51st state.

In backing the plan, however, the council brushed aside criticism from statehood advocates who felt that D.C. residents should have more say in drafting a constitution for the would-be state. A final vote on the founding document, which voters would be asked to “approve,” would not be taken by the D.C. Council until after the November election.
