In Case You Didn’t Know: Chuck Brown’s Public Viewing At Howard Theater Today

It will be the last chance for fans to see Chuck Brown at the Howard Theatre (620 T Street Northwest Washington, DC 2000) as they say goodbye to “The Godfather of Go-Go.” The public viewing is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today (Tuesday, 5/29/12). “They’ll have the opportunity to walk into the theater, to see him in his hat, his guitar, we’ll have his music playing, a photo montage,” says Micha Woods, Howard Theatre’s event planner. Brown had been in the theatre during the renovation. He was schedule to perform here April 21. “I know that Chuck was very excited about getting back here at the Howard,” Woods recalls. He would never get the chance to take the stage. He died earlier this month at the age of 75. Now his fans will meet at Howard Theatre Tuesday to pay their respects and honor his musical legacy. Organizers are expecting thousands of people to attend. They are also expecting for it to be extremely hot. Because of that, they are setting up emergency personnel across the street. “The fire department, EMS, the police, everyone will be outside. We have tons of water for the public as well as nurse’s station,” Woods says. With more than 30,000 expected to show up, there will be street closures. Organizers say Metro is the best way to go. “We are on the Green and Yellow lines, which is the Howard University-Shaw exit. T Street will be closed. 7th Street, certain components of that [will be closed] as well. Also, Wiltberger [Street] on the side of the theater [will be closed],” says Woods. “We want everyone in the city who loved Chuck to have a chance to see him,” says Cheryl Copeland. Brown’s funeral will be Thursday at noon at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Pete Rock (@PeteRock) Speaks On T.R.O.Y Record

After Lupe told Sway that not everything has been resolved, Pete Rock clarifies  what has happened in regards to how “T.R.O.Y.” was used in Lupe’s new song.  See what Pete had to say below:

It’s true that Lupe Fiasco’s representative from Atlantic Records contacted me last fall and he did so while I was in mourning over the sudden death of my cousin Heavy D. I gave the representative a conditional “yes” to use T.R.O.Y. for Lupe’s album but only based on the condition that I be involved on the project. It’s what I always say when approached by people who want to use that particular song. I was never contacted again. At no point was there any follow up from Atlantic Records. Now, the story gets twisted and it’s being said that I said “yes.” The part about my conditions has been left out to make me seem like I’m a hypocrite. When I heard about the song again, it was done, completed, and playing on the radio…and that was Monday night.

lupE.N.D. Via RR

It’s true that people have made T.R.O.Y. over. I can’t control what’s done with my work after it’s already out there but I can control who gets my blessings. Those who involve me and respect me in the process, get my blessings. Those who work behind my back – but all the while putting up a front like I’m down with it – don’t.I’m flattered that they wanted to remake my song and that they respect it for the classic that it is. I just think they should have talked to Atlantic Records to make sure things were done right. The biggest violation is from Atlantic Records but what can you expect? Labels are corporations and their whole point is to sell records. If they respect the artist in the process that would be nice, but they’re not required. For as political as Lupe as, I expected him to know that and to have hopefully made them more accountable. I’m surprised that he’s siding with the corporation on this.Technically, there was no crime committed with the release of Lupe’s version of my song. Technically, the song can be out there but I’m not talking about legalities. I’m asking: Where’s the respect for the code among artists? No ego, but I know my place in this game. I’m recognized as a legend and I accept that. But most of all, I’m a grown man. The love and admiration that people have for me as a producer and as a man of honor has been non-stop, consistent for over 20 years. That’s based on something that can’t be touched. My music and my character stands for itself. T.R.O.Y was a career-defining song has gotten me invited to the White House. It’s not just because people think the production is dope. It’s also because of what the song stands for. I want my music to touch people but I don’t want to be walked over or lied on in the process.I admit that my outburst on Monday night on Twitter was based on my reminiscing about Heav and Troy. I think about them every day. I apologize for being emotional about this. I had no intentions of hurting Lupe’s career. That’s not me. I’m known for building up not breaking down careers. Moving forward, I’m 100% in control and focused on what’s good.

Prodigy(@ProdigyMobbdeep) Releasing Second Book

After releasing his last nook, My Infamous Life, Prodigy is ready to release his second book No title or release date yet, but P tells XXL it will focus entirely on his 3 year prison bid.

This one is strictly and entirely about my experience in jail. I left that out of the first book on purpose, so I could put this out. It’s basically my experience—day by day—like a diary joint, type of thing,” he continued. “You know, what was going on in there, what I experienced in there and what I took out of it. Just the whole story. Only a few people will know what that’s like, the people I met and how the COs (correction officers) were, just different things like that.

50 Cent (@50Cent) Is In The Hospital

The quick explanation was originally him tweeting about suddenly being admitted to a hospital. By the time I came across this, a full update was already available (after the jump).
We received a call from hospital staff filling us in on 50′s condition. Fif traveled to London on business and while there he ate some Jamaican food and an apple. On the way to the airport he fell ill and couldn’t keep his food down. He drank some water afterwards and headed to the airport to catch his flight. On the plane he ate a meal without incident. After landing at JFK he headed straight to his office, stopping along the way to grab a burger and some fries, which after eating made him ill again. After being unable to hold his food down he decided to spend the night in the city.

The following morning 50 went to see his doctor where his temperature and blood pressure were checked, both of which were normal. He left the doctor’s office then went and got changed so he could do an interview DJ Drama at ThatsEnuff.com for his Gangsta Grillz mixtape. At that point 50 fell ill once again. He felt light headed, started sweating and having abdominal cramps due to dehydration and not having any food left in his stomach. He immediately went to the hospital where doctors gave him morphine for the pain. He was given a dye to drink and went through a cat scan which revealed he had a blockage in his small intestine.

At that point 50 was given the option of having a tube placed down his nose into his stomach to relieve the blockage or have surgery. After four unsuccessful attempts to remove the blockage with the tube doctors decided that method was not going to work. As of now he is being observed to see if anything changes, if not he will have to undergo surgery.
