Free Joins WPGC 95.5 In DC Alongside Big Tigger

I couldn’t find another picture, I swear. From AllHipHop:
Former BET host Free has landed a gig co-hosting Big Tigger’s Washington D.C. based morning radio show, The Big Tigger Morning Show, which airs on WPGC 95.5.
The show, which has been re-christened “The Big Tigger Morning Show with Free,” airs every morning from 6-10AM and can be heard in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Delaware and parts of Virginia.
Free, the former host of BET’s popular countdown show 106 & Park, is excited about returning to broadcasting full time.
She left the spotlight in 2005 to to focus on her family and to launch her non-profit organization, the Free4Life Foundation.
“I’m so thankful to both PGC and Tigger for giving me this opportunity to do what I care about most – connecting with people on a daily basis,” Free told AllHipHop.com in a statement today (May 9th). “I love doing radio and have always been intrigued by D.C.’s history and culture, so it’s a match made in heaven.”
In addition to co-hosting duties each weekday with Big Tigger, Free will rundown the “Free’s World Entertainment Report” recap during Big Tigger’s internationally syndicated weekend program “Live in the Den with Big Tigger.”

NPR, Big K.R.I.T.: The Story So Far Dreaming

In "Dreamin'," Big K.R.I.T. is the first to admit that long-lasting success doesn't happen overnight.

Monday’s Pick

Song: “Dreamin'”
Artist: Big K.R.I.T.
CD: Returnof4eva

With the Internet giving underground MCs a louder voice, struggling in the rap industry seems like a song worth singing. Mississippi’s Big K.R.I.T. has touched on the topic before, but the idea of making it big consumes him more than ever on his latest mixtape, Returnof4eva (available for free download on his website). After all, K.R.I.T. recently signed with Def Jam Recordings, which puts him in an interesting spot in “Dreamin’.” The song isn’t looking at life at the bottom — instead, it takes a sentimental look at the story so far.
Set to a self-produced beat, K.R.I.T. raps about A&R representatives and family members. The voices of naysayers are encapsulated in a grainy vocal sample from the Brothers of Soul track “Dream,” which is stretched out to haunting effect, while the words look back on K.R.I.T.’s formative years, when he listened to fellow Southerners like Scarface and UGK. He even loses his passion for high-school sports as the desire to rap takes over.

Jay-Z’s ‘Big Pimpin’ Is Headed To Court

One of the more odd reasons to file a lawsuit…from MTV:
“Big Pimpin'” was a smash hit for Jay-Z in 2000, but in 2011 it’s causing him some big legal headaches. The Hollywood Reporter revealed first that on Tuesday, California federal judge Christina Snyder ruled that plaintiff Osama Ahmed Fahmy has a right to pursue a lawsuit that names Jay-Z, EMI Publishing, MTV Networks, UMG Recordings, Warner Music and various other entities as defendants.
Although Jay-Z cleared the sample used in “Big Pimpin’,” which features Texas rap legends UGK, the copyright lawsuit claims that, according to Egyptian law, the song violates the “moral rights” of it original composer.
Read more after the jump.

The Timbaland-produced “Big Pimpin’,” from Jay-Z’s Vol. 3 … The Life & Times of S. Carter album, samples “Khosara, Khosara,” which was composed by Baligh Hamdy for the 1960 Egyptian film Fata Ahlami. Hamdy died in 1993, and the copyright to the song was passed down to his four children, with Fahmy being the nephew of one of these heirs. The lawsuit contends that only an unaltered version of “Khosara, Khosara” could be legally licensed, while Jay-Z’s tune used a sampled loop of the original song for its instrumental track. Since an altered version was utilized, the plaintiff contends, citing Egyptian “moral rights” legislation, that Jay-Z needed to seek permission from all of Hamdy’s children for its use.
Fahmy first filed his lawsuit in 2007, the same year a similar case brought against Timbaland was dismissed. No information on how much financial compensation Fahmy is seeking was available at press time. A representative for Jay-Z declined to comment on this ongoing legal matter.

Kanye West Debuts Line of Scarves

From Rap-Up. You can check out more pics after the jump:
Wanna dress like Yeezy? Now you can upgrade your swag with the fashion-forward rapper’s newest accessory. Kanye West has collaborated with French design partnership M/M (Paris) for a line of silk scarves inspired by the artwork for his latest album.
The five limited-edition designs, which go on sale Monday, are based on paintings done by artist George Condo for the cover of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The silk-printed images, named Power, Phoenix, Face, Priest, and Ballerina, are based on West’s musical fantasies and include the controversial nude album cover.
If you want one, you better act fast. Only 100 of each scarf will be produced. The $365 items will be sold exclusively through French boutique Colette, Chicago’s RSVP Gallery, and online on M/M (Paris)’s website.

Odd Future Will Appear On Pusha T’s Upcoming Project

This was originally posted by resident member Dirty G. I deleted the post my accident. My bad. Spotted on The BVX:
BJ: What can we expect from the label release of ‘Fear of God 2’?
PT: I’m keeping a couple of those joints from the first mixtape but added other joints and other features. We got some surprises. Ye is there. Odd Future’s there. That’s a couple gems. The beat just sounds so demonic. But I actually have to give it an [official] title. I tweeted the news the other day, when I finished it. I think we got one. It’s the three of us — Tyler, Hodgy Beats and me.
BJ: Odd Future’s rise is pretty amazing, right?
PT: Tyler’s such a fan, came to our video and said, ‘Yo, I have three beats that I made for you … and just know they’re for you. Please … hear it.’ He sends them over … I was like this is aight, this is aight, but the third one. He said, ‘I put a verse on it and Hodgy put a verse on it.’ [You’re] gonna be so amazed at the marriage, some things don’t always mesh man. But these guys are super-super talented. I can’t wait for the world to see each of our talents collide.

50 Cent’s “Sleek″ Headphones Put On Hold

Spotted on Karen Civil:
About four or five months ago, 50 Cent announced that he would be releasing his own set of wireless hybrid headphones in a partnership with Sleek Audio. These headphones were “supposed” to be the next big thing next to the “Beats By Dre” headphones. Reports say that the headphones are not terminated for good, but will just be re-evaluated and put out at a later date. Sleek Audio has stated that they want to focus more on “in-ear offerings” instead of the wireless “Sleek By 50” headphones. I’m pretty sure that there is more to the story than just them focusing on another product, but we all know that even if these headphones were to hit the shelves that they would be no competition to Dr. Dre‘s “Beats By Dre“.

Laz Alonzo Has A Hilarious T.I. & Tiny Story

Spotted on Crunktastical…take it away Laz…
“When this guy gets out of jail I’m going to be in trouble…
One of my buddies had a wedding down in Jamaica. I love destination weddings. When I decide to get married one of these days it’s going to be away somewhere people can kick it for a few days before the wedding. We were all a big happy family by the time the wedding happened. On the wedding night the couple went off to do their little honeymoon thing and we decided to have a house party. We had these villas with the music going and a pool party.
All of a sudden we see some hands and some feet crawling over our back wall! The first thing we were thinking was, “We’re in trouble. The Jamaicans are coming to get us.” You’d be surprised at how a lot of these guys that act all hard were looking for the exits. But we noticed that the hands and feet were a lot lighter “complected” than the typical Jamaicans we’ve seen on the island while we were there.
Sure enough when they poked their heads up it was T.I., Tiny his wife and their body guard who climbed over our wall. They were also vacationing at the same resort and they just wanted to join the party.
Now you are T.I. ! Had you knocked on the door and said “Hey Laz we want to party with ya’ll” there was no way in the world I was going to turn down T.I. But the fact that they made their grand entrance we had to give them a round of applause. That was my first time meeting T.I.”

…….Warner Music Group Sold

Warner Music Group sold for $3.3 billion to Access Industries’ Len Blavatnik

Access Industries, a holding company founded by oil baron Len Blavatnik, won the auction to buy Warner Music Group Corp. for $3.3 billion in cash, the companies announced Friday morning.
Blavatnik edged out more than a dozen other suitors including Sony Music Group, supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, Platinum Equity, Live Nation Entertainment and investment firm Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts, whose unsolicited offer late last year kicked off the auction process. KKR’s partner in the bidding was German music company Bertelsmann.
The deal calls for Warner to receive $8.25 per share, a 34% premium over the company’s average stock price over the last six weeks, the company said. It’s also 75% higher than Warner’s closing price on Jan. 20, the day before the New York Times published news of the bidding. Warner’s share closed at $7.90 on Thursday.

TYLER’S GOBLIN LEAKS (YOU DIDNT HEAR IT FROM US)

Tyler The Creator has now joined many other hotly anticipated acts in a fashion that some may think is nothing more than a timely dupe – the Odd Future’s de facto leader’s album Goblin, backed by popular British indie XL Recordings, has leaked to the Web and it is causing a frenzy like no other.

After duping fans with fabricated leaks of his debut album adding Celine Dion songs and other humorous bits according to tweets from the Odd Future Wolf Gang leader, it seems that an official leak of the album has hit the web and rabid fans have snatched it up to dissect the release – yet some supportive OFWGKTA fans are defiantly refusing to download the leaks until the album’s official May 10 release.

Currently in Belgium as part of an Odd Future European tour stint, Tyler has yet to address the official leak, which one fan on Twitter seemed to suspect it as a set-up as Tyler was featured in a glowing New York Times feature today. A suspicious @Matt_T tweeted, “Interesting that Goblin finally leaks the same day as the NYT piece. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM. savvy move Tyler.”

Whether it’s a clever ruse or not, hoards of fans have downloaded the album gleefully while many others are decrying the early birds for not being patient. “GOBLIN has me shook no lie < I thought Tyler was all talk, but this is sounding too good! Yeezy gtta watch his back!” said @Saronya in a retweet. “I pre-ordered Tyler, The Creator’s Goblin album (deluxe version) the other day. I’m sorry but I would never disrespect by looking for leaks,” tweeted @DiCapo.

Fan @lakergang_ kept it sweet and simple with, “[L]istening to tyler the creator’s new album, Goblin. n it’s sick! #OFWGKTA” But as all things in life, you can’t please everyone. “[H]ah Goblin is trending cause it leaked.it was over hyped anyways i bet you it sucks the fat one lol.Tyler the Creator is a skilled douchebag,” tweeted an unimpressed @Made4Play.

Goblin is the second full length album from Tyler The Creator with 2009’s freebie album BASTARD serving as his debut.
