8-Year-Old Shot & Killed While Playing Video Games In Landover

Truly horrific. From NBC Washington, where you can read the entire story.

An 8-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Tuesday night when gunfire erupted outside an apartment complex was celebrating his youth football team’s victory with friends and family at the time of the “senseless” shooting.

Peyton “PJ” Evans, identified to News4 by his family, was in a relative’s apartment on Brightseat Road in Landover playing a video game and eating tacos when he was fatally shot, his family told News4.

Evans was “doing what kids do after … school and football practice and living out his life,” Chief of Police Malik Aziz said in a news conference Wednesday.

R.I.P. Chucky Thompson

According to AllHipHop, one of D.C.’s greatest musical talents transitioned following a battle with COVID-19. R.I.P. to a true icon.

Unfortunately, the man behind hits like The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa,” Faith Evans’ “You Used To Love Me,” and Nas’ classic track “One Mic,” died after a fight with COVID-19.

Chucky Thompson was a member of Bad Boy Entertainment’s legendary “Hitmen” production team.

Thompson was one of the founding members of the squad, which included Easy Moe Bee and Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie.

The Washington D.C. native got his start playing the congas with Go-Go music legend Chuck Brown and The Soul Searchers, before finding his way to Bad Boy.

In addition to his hits with Diddy and Bad Boy, Thompson churned out hits for Tevin Campbell, New Edition, TLC, Busta Rhymes, Juvenile, and Mary J. Blige to name a few.

Man Charged In Death Of Nyiah Courtney

From NBC Washington:

A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of 6-year-old Nyiah Courtney, D.C.’s police chief announced Wednesday.

Marktwan Hargraves, 22, of Waldorf, Maryland, is accused of killing the child in a drive-by shooting on July 16, Chief Robert Contee announced.

“We’ve got our man,” he said.

Hargraves was charged with first-degree murder while armed in the “senseless act of violence,” Contee said.

Detectives believe the family was targeted because of Hargraves’ alleged connection to drug dealing.

Two days before Courtney was shot and killed, her father, Nico Griffin, was indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking charges. But a warrant for his arrest wasn’t issued right away.

Griffin was walking with his daughter and several others when a car drove up and opened fire.

Griffin and 12 other people were indicted after a long-running local and federal drug investigation in the D.C. area. Those 13 people are partially liable for Courtney’s death, the chief said.

Fredo Bang Arrested In Miami

From TMZ:

Fredo Bang’s been arrested in Miami — where he lives — on a fugitive warrant out of Louisiana — where he hails from .. TMZ has learned.

The rapper was picked up Thursday and booked in the Miami-Dade County jail, though it’s unclear what he’s accused of in his home state.

Fredo’s scheduled to perform Friday at the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival in Miami Gardens, but it seems he might have other plans now … like being extradited.

His arrest comes just a day after one of his fellow rappers, Lit Yoshi, was also arrested in Miami on a Louisiana warrant. Yoshi’s wanted on an attempted murder charge in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Both rappers are part of the hip-hop group called Top Boy Gorilla, and Fredo has a well-known beef with NBA YoungBoy.

In fact, authorities believe the 2019 shooting of YoungBoy at the Trump Beach Resort near Miami is possibly linked to members of Top Boy Gorilla … but so far, no charges have been filed.

Bill Cosby Freed From Prison

From CNN, where you can read the full story:

Bill Cosby was released from prison Wednesday after Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned his sexual assault conviction, saying the disgraced actor’s due process rights were violated.

The stunning decision in the case of the man once known as “America’s Dad” reverses the first high-profile celebrity criminal trial of the #MeToo era.

The panel of Pennsylvania State Supreme Court judges said in their opinion that a former Montgomery County district attorney’s decision to not prosecute Cosby in 2005 in return for his deposition in a civil case was ultimately used against him at trial.

“In light of these circumstances, the subsequent decision by successor D.A.s to prosecute Cosby violated Cosby’s due process rights,” the judges wrote.

Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz set sentencing for July 6, but said the maximum time the teen can be held, even on a murder charge, is until she turns 21; she’s about to turn 14.

V.A. Rapper Bugzie The Don Hit With Fed Charges Over Capitol Riot

He also recently dropped an album using his Capitol riot appearance as it’s artwork, which — to us — is reason enough to add for your listening pleasure below. Anyways, from WUSA9, where you can read the complete story:

Antionne DeShaun Brodnax, who performs under the stage name Bugzie the Don, is facing criminal charges for disorderly conduct and entering the U.S. Capitol building in January. Brodnax is not accused of any violence or theft during his roughly 40 minutes inside the building, according to court documents.

In an interview with investigators, Brodnax reportedly said he traveled to Washington, D.C., prior to January 6 to shoot a music video. The charging documents say Brodnax told investigators he “saw a rally of which many participants descended on the U.S. Capitol building” then followed the crowd to the Capitol “and entered the building after United States Capitol Police (USCP) moved the gates that blockaded the door.”

Once inside, prosecutors say Brodnax “walked around and took pictures and videos” at one point allegedly asking another rioter to take a photo of him sitting on a statue in Statuary Hall. While still inside, court documents say Broadnax started getting messages on social media that he was seen in footage broadcast by CNN.

The “Black Lives Matter” Signage Is Said To Be Returning To 16th Street

Performative politics … we’ll believe it when we see it. From ABC7, where you can read more on the story:

The iconic yellow lettering that first appeared on a D.C. street near the White House in June is gone. Black Lives Matter Plaza, as it’s known, has been paved over.

But those big yellow letters will be back.

In a live discussion with Jonathan Capehart of The Washington Post Thursday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the city plans to make Black Lives Matter Plaza “a permanent art installation in the District.”

“…we’re undergoing a process to make the installation more permanent, with lighting and landscaping and all the things that you expect in an iconic art installation,” she said.

Less than two weeks after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, on Friday, June 5, Black Lives Matter Plaza was unveiled on 16th Street NW, complete with a new street sign.

Two Drag Racing D.C. Cops Charged With Reckless Driving

As seen on Fox 5:

A current and former D.C. police officer accused of drag racing and crashing in Northeast have been charged, more than two weeks after the incident.

Humias Khan, 24, and Jerrita Millington, 33, are charged with reckless driving, aggravated reckless driving with more than $1,000 in property damage and aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm or disability.

The officers were going more than double the speed limit, according to charging documents. It’s just 20 miles per hour on Anacostia Ave. in the Kenilworth neighborhood. The officers had been stopped and are accused of accelerating to nearly 50 miles per hour in about 20 seconds.

Charging documents say the drivers accelerated to speeds that “displayed a wanton disregard for the safety of both persons and property.”

The crash took out part of Willie Vann’s fence.

“Thank God that nobody got hurt,” Vann said Monday. “You know, that they didn’t tear up no more than just my fence. The fence can be replaced. Life can’t.”

Each officer had an officer who was a passenger in their car and police say one of them activated his body camera, providing video of the alleged street race.

YFN Lucci Hit With RICO Charges

As seen on WSB-TV in Atlanta:

Rayshawn Bennett, better known as musical performer YFN Lucci, is among a dozen suspects indicted in a 75-page, 105 count racketeering indictment focused on factions within the Bloods street gang.

“This indictment is unprecedented. Period,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told Channel 2 Investigative reporter Mark Winne in an exclusive interview.

“There’s been a huge spike in violent crime,” Willis said. “I made a commitment to bring the best and the brightest minds here, many of which you see sitting here right now so that we could deal with this issue of this violent crime.”

Willis said she and her team used a YouTube Music Video entitled “Shine On” to shine the light on the alleged gang associations of the two performers, YFN Lucci and Bloody Jay, who are both named in the indictment. The indictment says the video includes lyrics promoting criminal gang activity.

Convery says investigators also used social media posts to help build their gang case.

Lucci’s lawyer, Drew Findling, told Winne his client is not guilty of all charges.

“He’s not a gang member. What he is is an internationally recognized musical artist that is a triple platinum winner, that has performed all over the United States and all over the world,” Findling said. “His first amendment right to musically express himself is no different than the famous rock song ‘I Shot the Sheriff.’ It’s not criminal activity.”

UPDATE: Two D.C. Police Cars Totaled Following An Officer Drag Race (Video)

UPDATE: Video added above. One of the officers involved has also reportedly been fired.

As seen via Fox 5:

Two D.C. police cars were totaled after officers decided to drag race each other, according to an internal email obtained exclusively by FOX 5’s Lindsay Watts.

“Yesterday two 6D scout cars were totaled because officers decided instead of fighting crime, patrolling their beats, or engaging the community – they decided to drag race each other on Anacostia Avenue at 5 pm in the evening,” reads the email from 6D Commander Durriyyah Habeebullah.

Sources say the email was sent to command staff following the crash Thursday.

“What does this say to all the members of MPD who are passionate about their job and work hard every day to make a difference. This is not fair to any of us,” the email goes on to say.

DC Police would not provide the incident report Sunday because the department only provides traffic reports through FOIA.

Sources tell FOX 5 the officers involved, who are new to the department, started racing each other on Anacostia Ave. NE near Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Garden and reports indicate they were traveling at least 60 mph.

Rico Nasty Had The Same Social Media Moment As T-Pain

As seen on HipHopDX:

“Much like T-Pain’s TikTok-leaked IG epiphany when the Grammy Award-winning artist discovered the inbox feature on the Gram that puts direct message requests in a separate folder, Rico Nasty revealed she-too ignored countless celebrities and organizations over the years while being completely oblivious to the filter.

It’s anyone’s guess how many of the individuals who have attempted to reach out to Rico Nasty over the years caught wind of this video with her earnest confession, the best case scenario would be if they all took it as well as Lil Dicky did — as he popped in the comment section with a friendly “Hello,” comment seemingly to let Rico know it’s all good.”

Kodak Black Pleads Guilty, Gets Probation In Sexual Assault Case

From TMZ:

Kodak Black just pled guilty to first-degree assault and battery in his sexual assault case in South Carolina, and he’s been sentenced to 18 months probation … TMZ has learned.

The rapper was originally indicted on a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, but his attorneys, Bradford Cohen and Beattie Ashmore, tell us Kodak copped a plea to a lesser charge to put the case behind him.

As we reported, Kodak was charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl back in February 2016 at a hotel. According to prosecutors, he pushed the girl into a wall and onto a bed before assaulting her, allegedly biting her breast and neck. Kodak had denied the allegations.

Ed Clements, the 12th Circuit Solicitor in Florence County, tells TMZ … Kodak admitted in court he bit the girl, but apologized to her, on the record.

We’re told Kodak was given a 10-year suspended prison sentence and placed on 18 months of supervised state probation.

While on probation, he will not wear an ankle monitor, but must let his probation officer know where he goes and where he lives.

We’re also told Kodak will not be allowed to use drugs, drink alcohol or have guns and if he successfully completes the 18-month probation … he won’t spend a day in prison for the case.

Lil Mosey Pleads Not Guilty To Rape Charges

From The Chronicle, where you can read the full story:

Seattle rapper Lil Mosey, born Lathan Moses Echols, has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree rape charge stemming from a January 2020 incident in Randle.

Echols appeared in Lewis County Superior Court on Tuesday after the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office agreed to quash a $50,000 warrant for Echols’ arrest. The warrant was issued after Echols failed to appear in court for a scheduled preliminary appearance last week. According to defense attorney Jennifer Atwood, the court summons was sent to an address Echols had not lived at for five years and Echols had no knowledge of his court summons until after he’d missed the court date.

Echols is accused, along with co-defendant Francisco Prater, 19, of Silver Creek, of having sex with a woman “while she was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless or mentally incapacitated,” according to court documents.

The victim reportedly told police that she had gone to a party in Randle to see Echols on Jan. 6, 2020, and had consumed alcohol. Echols is accused of getting into a car with the victim and her friend. Echols allegedly “pulled his pants down,” according to court documents.

The victim reportedly told police that she recalled consenting to sex with Echols inside the car, but blacked out soon after. She later awoke to Echols and Prater assaulting her inside the Randle residence.
