Drake May Or May Not Have Signed Cassie To OVO Sound

Drake-French-Montana-and-Cassie

This was said to have been spotted on a Mediabase newsletter…..we have spotted it on various media outlets:

R&B singer and occasional model Cassie, who had one of the biggest 2006 rhythm-crossover hits with the minimal electro Ryan Leslie produced “Me & U” and has since then been signed under Sean Diddy Combs exclusive Bad Boy/Interscope distribution partnership, has now inked another deal with Drake and Noah “40″ Shebib’s OVO Sound, their first big signing. Riding high on the release of her new mixtape RockaByeBaby, well-received by fans and critics, Cassie is now preparing for a new single later this year, followed by her sophomore LP next Spring.

I feel that, if this is true, Drake is going to make her into the viable artist that Diddy — too busy having sex with her, perhaps — couldn’t quite pan out in the world of Pop/R&B. I will say: that last mixtape is jammin’, though.

Drake & Jhene Aiko Reunite On ‘Nothing Was The Same’

When Nothing Was The Same drops September 17th, Jhene Aiko will rejoin Drake as one of his features since 2010’s ‘July‘. As you can see, we don’t know what the title is yet, either.

Drake Covers XXL’s 150th Issue

You can read more over at XXL.

XXL celebrates a very special issue this month: It’s the magazine’s 150th and 16th anniversary issue and Drake’s first solo cover. Yeah, it’s a big deal, and this is a great issue. It’s been 16 years since Jay Z and Master P both graced split covers of the first XXL. This month’s cover subject, Drake, was just 10 years old. Fast forward to 2013 and he’s one of the biggest rappers in hip-hop. And he’s currently prepping the release of his in-demand third album, Nothing Was The Same (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal) for September 17.

Discussing everything from his new album and his relationships with other rappers and celebrities to his return to acting and his overall success, the Toronto MC was open and honest with writer Thomas Golianopoulos during their two-hour interview. Here are a few quotes from the exclusive interview.

Drake Cancels The First Day Of OVO Fest Due To Frank Ocean’s Injury

frank-ocean-live

I suppose this is admirable (or maybe he is just cutting his losses), but Drake has decided against replacing Frank Ocean and went with cancelling the first day of his 2 day festival altogether (Ocean was the headlining act for Day 1). We reported recently that the Odd Future singer had to cancel his Australian tour due to an apparent torn vocal chord. Hope he gets well soon.

(BACK) IN THE STUDIO: Drake & The Weekend…….& Riff Raff?

At the top you can see that Drake is back with The Weeknd (they were never beefing by the way, which we’re now 100 percent sure of following The Weekend’s recent Complex feature)….here’s to hoping that both Nothing Was The Same and Kiss Land get those collaborative infusions before they both drop…..

Moving along, it also appears that Drizzy was befriended by none other than Riff Raff, who also had a blast partying with Drake and his fellow Toronto rock star Justin Bieber at one of Bieber’s recent shows. Additional pictures and Vine clips are below relating to that.

Birdman Explains Drake’s Absence On Rich Gang LP; Reuniting With Mannie Fresh

I was wondering why Drake didn’t make the Rich Gang album, but Birdman speaks on why that is in his interview with Sway on RapFix Live. Birdman also cleared up rumors about Mannie Fresh not being involved in the upcoming Big Tymers album. He reveals that he’s been talking with Mannie and they plan to work together very soon.

“I’ve been talking to Fresh a lot. We talk every other day, we been talking about doing music; so matter of fact we gonna get in,” Birdman announced. “Me and Fresh ain’t got no problem, we never had no problem. It’s been a minute and we plan on working again.”
