Kevin Durant Traded To Pheonix Suns

From USA Today, where you can read the full story:

New Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia wasted no time shaking up the franchise.

The Suns are acquiring NBA superstar Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.

The deal will send Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and four first-round picks to the Nets, in addition to a pick swap in 2028. The Suns will be getting Durant – a 13-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP – and forward T.J. Warren.

Kevin Durant Donates $500K To Bowie State’s Basketball Gym

As seen on Bleacher Report, where you can read more on the story:

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and the Durant Family Foundation pledged $500,000 toward Bowie State athletics.

“We’re grateful for the resources that Kevin Durant and his family foundation have generously donated to Bowie State University to advance student success in achieving their academic goals,” said Bowie State president Aminta Breaux. “His contributions will go a long way towards updating our facilities and ensure a top-tier athletic experience for all of our students.”

Part of the donation will go toward installing a new basketball court at A.C. Jordan Arena and expanding the venue’s capacity. A portion of the money is also earmarked for “financial support for men’s and women’s basketball and university athletics programs.”

Kevin Durant Gets Into A War Of Words With Shannon Sharpe

It’s clear that Durant is done with everyone’s bullsh*t. From Complex:

During a recent episode of the FS1 debate show, Sharpe—an admitted LeBron James stan—criticized Durant for the quote, which implies that he’s better than LeBron James because he beat him in back-to-back Finals.

“Kevin Durant thought by winning the title, people would regard him universally as the best player in the NBA. Better than even LeBron James But very few people were willing to go there,” Sharpe said. “And then he’s like…Because he said it. ‘If LeBron James is the GOAT. I beat the GOAT twice, and hit the shot in his building. What does that make me?’”

The trouble is, Durant never said what Sharpe accused him of saying.

LOL: Kevin Durant & Michael Rapaport Exchange Words

Holy hell. It looks like Kevin Garnett has an issue with actor Michael Rapaport. He didn’t let up at all, either.

Breaking Down IDK & YungManny’s “495” (ft. Rico Nasty, Big Flock, Big Jam & Weensey)

Yesterday, Kevin Durant and IDK dropped a bombshell. For the soundtrack to Durant’s upcoming documentary Basketball County: In the Water, he and IDK had assembled a Juicy J-produced posse cut featuring some of PG County’s most influential rappers,  Weensey from Backyard Band, and upcoming Dumfries, Virginia artist Big Jam. Co-produced by IDK himself and the famed DJ Acyde, you can listen to the song, “495” above. For a brief recap of how the track came together, read on.

Kevin Durant, the P.G. native, has had a long history with the DMV rap scene. He has a decade-plus friendship with Wale. Durant appeared on Wale’s More About Nothing, his business partner Rich Kleiman is an executive producer of the documentary and was previously Wale’s manager. KD announced last week that fellow P.G. native IDK would be the music supervisor for the upcoming Showtime documentary, but it appears that the work has been happening behind the scenes for months.

Big Jam and Big Flock both mentioned recording with IDK back in February of this year. Flock and IDK have history as well, dating back to 2016, before Flock was incarcerated. Flock, who has a long history with Rico Nasty, was released in the fall of 2019, collaborated with buzzing Bowie rapper Yung Manny, These titans of local rap lore, joined alongside Backyard Band legend Weensey and promising Northern Virginia newcomer Big Jam to create an exciting prelude to what will surely be an engaging documentary, a captivating soundtrack, and an interesting summer for DMV music. Basketball County: In the Water premieres on the 15th.

Kevin Durant Talks Brooklyn Nets & More on ‘Ebro In The Morning’

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant showed up to Ebro in the Morning to have a conversation on why he decided to sign with the team, if he ever considered playing for the Knicks or his hometown Washington Wizards, his time with the Golden State Warriors, whether he feels he returned too early from injury and more.

He also gave us an update on his health, and whether Nets fans can expect him to get on the court.

Before leaving, he named his top 5 rappers right now & who he feels deserves more of the spotlight.

GIVING BACK: Kevin Durant is Donating $10 Million to P.G. County

Something that needs to be spotlighted before hometown hero Kevin Durant returns to the area as part of the Golden State Warriors: it’s been reported that the NBA star is donating a whopping $10 million to P.G. County to help disadvantaged kids. It’s all in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools and after school program College Track, which — as you’d guess from the title — helps kids move into the higher learning phase via a 10-year program involving tutoring, resources and more.

Kevin Durant “Really Just Didn’t Want To Play” In D.C.

We can’t really be mad at Durant’s feelings on the matter, to be honest…he still gets our support 100 percent. From the Washington Post (where you can read the full editorial):

When Durant plays at Verizon Center on Tuesday night as a Golden State Warrior, with an enormous tattoo spelling “Maryland” still inked across his shoulders, it will evoke two of the forces that shaped his life and colored his choice: an abiding love and appreciation for where he grew up, and an ardent need to expand himself beyond it.

“I don’t want to open up anything in the past, but I really just didn’t want to play at home,” Durant said. “It was nothing about the fans. Being at home, I was so happy with that part of my life — playing at home, being in front of friends, hanging with friends and family every day. That was a part of my life that has come and gone.

“I was like, I’m trying to build a second part of my life as a man living in a different part of the country, just trying to do different things. I did everything I was supposed to do in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, I felt. Now it’s time to do something new. I didn’t want to come back. That’s just my thought process behind it. It had nothing to do with basketball, the fans, the city.

“It was just like, ‘All right, that part of my life I’ve conquered already. What’s next?’”

Kevin Durant Speaks On Social Media Hate

hi-res-7be19e9e968cdf3badd17d4556e05c30_crop_north

Speaking to ESPN, Kevin Durant recently spoke on the incredible about of hate (like, Lebron taking his talents to South Beach hate) that he now receives following his move from OKC to Golden State:

It is what it is, but I tell you one thing, all that stuff stays [online]. Nobody’s ever coming to me in my face and saying none of that. It’s jokes. Everybody is just waiting for it. If you really didn’t care [what I say], you wouldn’t even follow my tweets. So obviously you care about something. But what, I’m going to get mad at that? Hell nah.

That’s what kind of makes their day… Just being like, ‘Oh, I talked to one of my favorite basketball players [on social media]. Even though I hate him, but he’s still one of my favorites. I talked to a celebrity I really like but everybody else hates him, so I’m going to join in on the party.’ Everybody’s jumping on the waves. That’s just how it is.

It’s fun, man, because it’s entertainment. And I appreciate them letting us give them that opportunity, that experience. So if you want to heckle or if you want to cheer, as long as you’re getting a release from whatever is going on in your normal life, that’s cool. That’s what life is about. You have to take the good with the bad.

Kevin Durant Is Leaving OKC for Golden State

illo-kevin-durant-warriors-ftr-111715_vvc3jvn6tmis1hbhoy14qrj1b

We’ll just let him tell you (taken from the Players Tribune):

This has been by far the most challenging few weeks in my professional life. I understood cognitively that I was facing a crossroads in my evolution as a player and as a man, and that it came with exceptionally difficult choices. What I didn’t truly understand, however, was the range of emotions I would feel during this process.

The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player — as that has always steered me in the right direction. But I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man: moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth. With this in mind, I have decided that I am going to join the Golden State Warriors.

I’m from Washington, D.C. originally, but Oklahoma City truly raised me. It taught me so much about family as well as what it means to be a man. There are no words to express what the organization and the community mean to me, and what they will represent in my life and in my heart forever. The memories and friendships are something that go far beyond the game. Those invaluable relationships are what made this deliberation so challenging.

It really pains me to know that I will disappoint so many people with this choice, but I believe I am doing what I feel is the right thing at this point in my life and my playing career.

I will miss Oklahoma City, and the role I have had in building this remarkable team. I will forever cherish the relationships within the organization — the friends and teammates that I went to war with on the court for nine years, and all the fans and people of the community. They have always had my back unconditionally, and I cannot be more grateful for what they have meant to my family and to me.

BEEF? Stephen A Smith Threatens Kevin Durant (Video)

From TMZ:

Someone call Vince McMahon … because Stephen A. Smith just went on a WWE-style smacktalk rant directed at Kevin Durant … in which he essentially threatens to dig up dirt that will DESTROY the NBA star!!

It’s pretty crazy … Smith went on ESPN’s “First Take” to respond to comments made by Durant — in which KD called BS on one of Smith’s NBA reports about him. Durant called Smith a liar and claimed neither he nor anyone in his inner circle has ever talked to Smith.

Smith clearly didn’t take too kindly to the statement … and UNLOADED this morning:

“I sit here today incredibly offended by the personal attack that this man has put against me,” Smith said.

“What I would like to ask Kevin Durant and some of the brothers who talk behind my back in the NBA who probably put him up to something stupid like this … Do you really want me to come out of this seat and go back on the scene? Do you really wanna see me in an NBA arena?”

“Because I can assure you I’ll find out more in 10 minutes than I can get from 50 phone calls …. I have proven it.”

“I am a black man on national television with a big mouth and I will still stand up today here and I’ll put my resume spanning 22 years plus up against anyone in this industry.”

“We really wanna go here? We really wanna start something with ME???? You sure about that??? I just want people to think about that.”

Seems the gauntlet has essentially been laid down.

Kevin Durant To Miss 6-8 Weeks After Fracturing Foot; Lil B Trolls

Spotted on ESPN:

Kevin Durant has a fracture in his right foot and will likely miss at least the first month of the season, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced Sunday.

The team said Durant has a “Jones fracture,” a broken bone at the base of the small toe.

Thunder general manager Sam Presti said no specific incident caused the injury; it happened over time. Durant has not been given an official timetable, but will likely miss six to eight weeks, based on the typical recovery time for an injury of this nature.

“From what I’ve been told, a Jones fracture is the most common surgical procedure performed on NBA players as of late,” Presti said. “It has happened enough so that there is enough of a body of work to look at an average recovery time.”

Durant will undergo further evaluation and consultation over the next few days and determine if surgery is necessary. It appears likely.

“We’re heading in that direction,” Presti said.

Following practice Saturday, Durant informed the Thunder medical staff he was experiencing an “aching” in his right foot. Durant had participated in both the Thunder’s preseason games thus far and played a total of 30 minutes.

“We’re really fortunate that we’re catching it when we’re catching it,” Presti said. “We are very fortunate that Kevin notified us yesterday and that we’re kind of catching it on the front end, before this became more of an acute issue.”

You can read more at ESPN. As far as Lil B’s response (who “cursed” Durant in the past):

Kevin Durant Is Tired Of The Lil B Curse

I honestly don’t remember this, but years ago, Kevin Durant apparently said some not-so-nice things about The Based God; naturally, the Bay Area rapper and his legion of social media fans have made sure that KD hasn’t forgotten about it to this very day.

In a recent interview at the NBA2K15 launch party in NYC, Durant attempts to make peace, because simply put: it’s gotten to be pretty ri-gotdam-diculous.

John Wall & Kevin Durant Helped Get Desean Jackson For The Washington Redskins

Desean

According to Slam Online, John Wall (Cowboys fan) and Kevin Durant (Redskins fan) joined Wale, NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Robert Griffin III in recruiting Desean Jackson to the Redskins.

“I’m gonna put it like this: Wale is a good friend of mine as well,” Jackson said. “He’s a good rapper, he does his thing out here in D.C., puts on for the city. It was a little influenced by Wale. Another influence was my boy Durant. Kevin Durant been calling me, he been calling and saying man you know how I’d go crazy for you to be in D.C. I mean, what better place is there for me to be? I’m happy to be here. I’m glad, man, honestly I can say that.”

This all came after Jackson again described the influence of Robert Griffin III and DeAngelo Hall in recruiting him.

“RGIII came to my house out in Cali before I even made this trip,” Jackson said on ESPN 980. “He was like man c’mon bro, I need you to come make this happen for me. And honestly I can sit here and say him and D Hall did a great job. I might think they’re the owners and the GM here. The way they got love out here was awesome. So it just shows what type of tradition they have here. And Bruce [Allen] did a great job of just hearing them out and listening to them. And it makes me feel at home. So it was a no-brainer for myself.”

Turns out (John) Wall and Jackson had a pre-existing relationships from both keeping homes in Southern California, and Wall put in a word during Jackson’s visit to Washington.

“I knew him. I met him in L.A. and just said, ‘Waddup’ to him,” Wall said. “[Monday] night, we lost that game in Charlotte, and I was mad and upset. And they all had went to Eden to show him a good time, and I wanted to go, but I was mad about the game. So I just told him, enjoy your trip, wish you the best of luck, and I know they’d love to have [you] here. That’s something big. They got another weapon to make their team dangerous.”

“I’m a Cowboys fan, I ain’t going to lie about that,” Wall said. “But I tell people — it’s kind of weird — but when they are not playing each other, I don’t mind cheering for [the Redskins]. Because I go to the games, and I’m cool with RGIII and DeAngelo Hall and those guys. Don’t look like [the Cowboys] trying to get better anytime soon. So, somebody got to do good.”
