Lil’ Wayne Speaks On Jason Collins; Says Miami Heat Will Win The NBA Champ

No love lost, apparently. From MTV:

“What [Jason Collins’ coming out] does for sports? It’s opening a lot of doors and it’s showing that it’s a fair world out there,” Wayne told MTV News on Saturday morning (May 4) when we sat with him in Miami at a launch party for his new Spectre by Supra sneaker, the Chimera. “Just to see how many people came to his support and things like that, that’s a pretty fair world out there. Be you.”

With his beloved L.A. Lakers out of contention, the South Beach resident now believes that LeBron James and the Miami Heat are the clear-cut favorite to take the basketball crown. Clearly his past spat with the team hasn’t affected how he analyzes the game. “C’mon man, you know you can’t beat that machine out here in Miami man. Nobody can beat that machine. I have yet to see someone beat that machine,” he said. “I think the [San Antonio] Spurs will give them a run for their money but, that machine, the Miami Heat.”

Mountain Dew Drops Lil’ Wayne

Bad news for Wayne: even after suffering from a seizure earlier this week, Mountain Dew has cut ties with the rapper.

The move stems from the controversy surrounding Weezy’s Emmett Till reference on “Karate Chop (Remix)”. In a statement, Mountain Dew’s parent company PepsiCo said:

“offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

UPDATE: Emmett Till Family Scoffs At Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Open Letter’

weezer

UPDATE: I saw this coming…..as nicely written as that letter (at the bottom of this post) was, no where did it have an actual apology. Apparently, Emmett Till’s family noticed that too. From TMZ:

Airickca Gordon-Taylor — Executive Director, Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation and Till Family Representative — tells TMZ the family does not view the letter as a formal apology.

“While it’s commendable that he has vowed to respect the legacy of Emmett Till and his memory to ‘not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in his music,’ this statement falls short of an apology, as none is mentioned.”

****************************************

The day after word got out that Emmett Till‘s family called for Lil Wayne’s Mountain Dew endorsement, Lil’ Wayne sent a letter regarding his lyric on “Karate Chop (Remix)”. On the song, Wayne rhymed, “I beat that pussy up, like Emmett Till”.

Dear Till Family:

As a recording artist, I have alway been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.

It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.

Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalogue.

I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.

Best,

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.

According To TMZ:

Lil Wayne was hospitalized again for a seizure ..

Sources close to Wayne tell us … the rapper was taken to Cedars-Sinai in L.A. late Tuesday night by his bodyguards. We’re told he suffered a single seizure and was treated and released early this morning.

As we first reported, 30-year-old Lil Wayne spent a week at Cedars back in March after suffering multiple severe seizures that nearly killed him. He spent 6 days in ICU.

Wayne subsequently went on the radio and explained he’s an epileptic, and has been suffering from seizures since he was a kid.

Lil’ Wayne & Trick Daddy Fight At KODs Over Miami Heat Rant

The first news comes from Vlad TV, who stated that Lil’ Wayne was actually escorted out of the club Monday night (April 8th) after a confrontation with Trick Daddy escalated into a scuffle.

Taken from MTV:

Apparently incensed that Tunechi hadn’t “checked in” prior to the engagement, as he was warned to do after his now infamous “F—k Miami” rant and subsequent unapologetic stance on his comments about the Miami Heat, Trick Daddy, the self-professed “Mayor of Dade County,” reportedly entered the striptease establishment with 40-50 fellow Miamians in tow, looking to confront the I Am Not A Human Being II MC. The face-to-face encounter between the two rappers spiraled out of control, though, after Daddy Dollars allegedly threw a cigarette in Wayne’s face.

Weezy, along with YMCMB president Mack Maine, were tapped to host the grand reopening of KOD, which had recently upgraded its interior with a new LED lighting system and various other bells and whistles.

Neither party has taken to Twitter to comment on the situation but KOD did try to diffuse the rumor, tweeting, “YMCMB in the Building!!!!! No worries…,” which prompted the following response from @KOD_miami, “trick daddy in the house n—-s betta watch they mouth! #slipnslide #f—lilwayne #f—kod #tootsiesallday.”

Trick’s no tolerance policy against Wayne stems from the comments he made to 99 JAMZ radio station back in February after the “How To Love” rapper made no apologies for his anti-Miami rant.

“If anybody don’t like it they can die tonight,” Trick said. “I don’t care who be offended by what I say. I rep my city and want nobody disrespecting. We’ve got to stick together as radio, as artists, as DJs and fans who love the music as a whole. That’s what makes a community. Me and Luke been talking, we’ve been getting together, we’re going to find out some type of way to get this thing back on the road — I can’t go nowhere else, this is my home. So from now on, when they get here, they’re going to have to start checking in.”

Talib Kweli Speaks Out About Rick Ross Over Rape Lyrics

I see Google Hangout is beginning to catch fire. Anyway, during a Huffington Post Live segment, Talib Kweli spoke on Rick Ross’ recent rape rhymes and his borderline you-must-think-we’re-idiots response to the backlash:

I don’t care if Rick Ross is 40 years old — he’s a misguided 40-year-old person. Rick Ross condoned rape in that song… and he should apologize. And his apology that he offered was unacceptable.

Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Emmett Till’ line wasn’t safe from the 35 minute clip, either.
