Joan Jett, Lorde & More Join Nirvana On Stage At Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

From the New York Daily News:

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic accepted their induction just four days after the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death.

Nirvana’s emotional induction included speeches from Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, as well as his mother, Wendy O’Connor.

R.E.M’s Michael Stipe, whom Cobain greatly admired, gave the official induction.

“Nirvana captured lightning in a bottle,” he said. The band pushed “us forward towards our individual and collective potential.”

He saluted Nirvana’s anti-mainstream stance and specifically Cobain for offering an “outsider voice for the fags, the fat, the fed-up and the bullied.”

“Kurt, I miss you,” he said, rawly.

Cobain’s mother fought back tears as she said of her son “he would have been so proud. He’d say he wasn’t, but he would be.”

An uncommonly terse Love echoed that sentiment, “Tonight, he really would have appreciated.”

Love also vowed to give the award to their daughter, Francis Bean, “who isn’t here because she’s sick.”
Novoselic thanked Cobain for fronting music “that means so much for so many people.”

Joan Jett sang lead with the band on a ferocious “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Several other women also sang Cobain’s parts with genuine brilliance and edge: Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth on “Aneurysm,” Annie Clark on “Lithium” and Lorde on “All Apologies.”

You can read more about the induction — which also included greats Kiss, Linda Ronstadt, Yusef Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and The E Street Band — at the New York Daily News.

MAC Teams Up With Lorde For A New Lipstick Line

Lorde's Mac range promo

Lorde scores what should be a good financial boost by joining forces with MAC Cosmetics for a new line that should arriving in the Summer. Spotted on The Guardian:

The Grammy award-winning singer follows in the footsteps of numerous popstars, including Rihanna, whose red lipstick RiRi Woo instantly became the kind of sellout success that leads to eBay bidding wars. Ru Paul, kd lang and Lil’ Kim are also among the eclectic range of musicians who have joined forces with the brand, which promotes the Viva Glam MAC Aids fund.

Lorde said: “I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little kid. I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it was used by about 20 of my friends!” Ah, memories. We can almost see the over-tweezed eyebrows of our youth now. The Lorde range has the vague release date of “summer 2014”.

Bruce Springsteen Covers Lorde’s ‘Royals’ In New Zealand

Spotted on Rolling Stone:

Bruce Springsteen’s ongoing tour of Australia and New Zealand has featured some of the most surprising cover choices of his career, but he topped himself last night in Auckland, New Zealand when he walked onstage and kicked off the show with a rendition of Lorde’s “Royals.” His solo acoustic version made the song sound like it was originally cut during the Nebraska sessions, and he tweaked the lyrics slightly, singing “you can call me king bee” instead of “queen bee.”

i am in paris as i release this. every street we drive down makes my eyes pop with the most incredible things carved in stone, and gilded on pillars, and wrought with metal; the heroes and heroines of this city aren’t so hard to find. this song’s are a little more mismatched, less classic courtesans on their pedestals, but nonetheless brilliant. this song is kinda of that world, and at the same time, very much of this one. enjoy. – Lorde
