Valued at $10 million before the real estate bust, JPMorgan Chase & Company purchased the 54,000-square-foot spread, which sits on 105 acres and has 109 rooms, in 2012 for $7.5 million after it went into foreclosure. When the New York Times reported on it last November, the home was on the auction block with a bidding price that had reached $2.75 million. Holyfield reportedly owed $14 million on the 20-year-old mega-mansion at the time of foreclosure.

In addition to being listed as the “largest single family home in GA,” the 12-room, 21-bathroom main house boasts a 350,000-gallon outdoor pool, bowling alley, baseball field, and indoor lap pool. There’s also an extra 4,000-square-foot home on the property that one of Holyfield’s ex-wives resided in for a spell after their divorce.

Of course, the upkeep costs a pretty penny: approximately $1 million annually, Holyfield once told the AJC, with monthly power bills in the $17,000 range.

Freeway Ricky Ross Issues Statement Following Court Ruling Over Name

freeway-ricky-ross

So, a judge has ruled that Freeway Ricky Ross cannot stop Rick Ross (the rapper, William Roberts) from using said alias for performance purposes. Probably not the best day ever for the former drug kingpin.

Today, he has released a statement on the matter, and it gets pretty deep:

I respect Hip Hop as an art form and consider many of its artists some of my close friends. But I believe the art form owes an obligation of authenticity. You cannot go out and say you sold cocaine at Kilo to Metric ton scale and be so detached from the experience. If you do, you have an obligation to the youth to tell them the truth and not lie about the facts of your circumstance to try to further validate the mistruth.

There is a teachable moment about the state of our community when a man who has a respectable job as a correctional officer, has to recreate himself in my former image as a large-scale kingpin to gain what he feels is social acceptance as a successful man. I along with many others would have given it all up for stability and opportunity, when Reagan came into office with Trickle down gutting assistance programs, and privatization of public sector jobs ripped through our cities it strip-mined those types of stable jobs in a very short period from Black America.

I will continue to go around the country and speak at schools, speaking to the need for the youth to avoid getting caught up in the dope game. Also I will be going city to city giving artists that don’t get looks by labels Mixtape exposure. I look forward to the release of my autobiographical book due out in February, and film in development to help tell the truth about how Black American Cities developed and turned to drugs, the dope game and its consequences.

Rick Ross Sues LMFAO Over Single

Spotted on NME:

Rick Ross is suing defunct pop duo LMFAO over their use of the phrase “Everyday I’m shufflin'” in their hit single ‘Party Rock Anthem’.

The rapper believes that LMFAO’s 2010 single, which has sold over 7.5m copies, contravenes his 2006 track ‘Hustlin”, which features the line “Everyday I’m hustlin’.” The Hollywood Reporter states that Ross, along with Jermaine Jackson, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Los Angeles-based electropop duo of Stefan Kendal Gordy (Redfoo) and Skyler Austen Gordy (SkyBlu).

According to a lawsuit filed in Florida federal court, “The use of ‘Hustlin’ in ‘Party Rock Anthem’ is readily apparent, despite the slight change from ‘Everyday I’m hustlin’ …’ to ‘Everyday I’m shufflin’ …’ and constitutes, inter alia, the creation of an unauthorized derivative work.” Ross, who is now seeking an injunction and maximum statutory damages, also claims that the phrase is “performed in a manner to sound like” Ross’ own, and “is an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fame and success of Hustlin’.

“The phrase is so important to the success of ‘Party Rock Anthem,’ that LMFAO launched a highly successful clothing line, Party Rock Clothing, that features the phrase on T-shirts and other clothing items,” says the lawsuit.
