ALBUM STREAM: Oceaán – Oceaán (EP)

oceaan

Some triply music for your Saturday, courtesy of Manchester’s Oceaán. His latest self-titled EP is brought to you courtesy of Dazed Digital:

His initial breakthrough track “Need U” was a bouncy tropical house track that sounded about as far away from the grey skyline of Manchester as your imagination could possibly get, but with his self–titled debut EP on Chess Club Records this month comes a whole spectrum of frostier electronic pop. “Basement” is a sparse moment of listlessness, with the artist – real name Oliver Cean, conveniently – sighing “don’t know how to tell ya” over a 2-step rattle like a moment of drunken clarity in the smoking area, while “To Lose” recalls the fractured soul of James Blake.

Check it out below.

Trey Songz Finds Himself In The Midst Of Gay Rumors (Again); Gets Dissed By August Alsina (Again)

The supposed Tweet above had all social networks in a “frenzy” (I guess, I wasn’t really paying attention). Trey Songz has since come forward, claiming Photoshop…you can see all of that in the above gallery as well.

In related news, August Ass-o-lina is also taking shots at Trey during 2 Chainz’ recent 2 Good 2 Be T.R.U. tour stop in VA (he’s an opening act). You can see that in the gallery, too…if you recall, Alsina made his feelings known about his peer during a recent interview with Rap-Up (well, without giving any real details on what caused the rift, anyway).

Kelly Rowland Speaks On Leaving Label, Upcoming Album

Kelly Rowland recently sat down with HuffPost Live to speak on a variety of topics, most important of all her departure from Universal Republic. You can see the full interview above, but here’s what she had to say about those specific topics below:

On leaving her label:
I feel like right now, I just needed something new. And I’ve earned the right to make my own choices and make my own decisions. I wished them well and they wished me well. No hard feelings. I just needed a fresh new start.

There are different offers on the table. I’m grateful for that, very grateful for that. But at the same time, I just want to see what it feels like right now. I’m just in the studio, on my own, just having a really good time just being creatively free.

On her new album:
A fifth album is coming! I’m in the studio right now. I just actually got started last week. It’s been wonderful so far. A fresh new, like, spin on everything with writers and producers. Just being inspired, you know what I mean? Creativity. Creativity is an amazing, an amazing tool I’m able to use every day.

Kobe Bryant Under Fire Over Trayvon Martin Comments; Responds

The below excerpt (from an interview with The New Yorker) shows Kobe Bryant’s stance on Trayvon Martin (this was brought up following this photo, which showed the Miami Heat showing support of the Martin case):

“I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.”

The below breakdown of what has happened since the comments were made were spotted on Tavern Keepers:

  • The Urban Daily called Bryant a jerk and added “Over the span of Kobe Bryant‘s career… we’ve seen him do and say some very smug, cavalier and even cornball things at times but the comments that he made regarding the Miami Heat’s support after Trayvon Martin was killed… by far takes the cake!”

  • The director of Project Islamic H.O.P.E. called for a boycott of Bryant.

  • The managing editor of NewsOne Now took to Twitter to slam Bryant as being part of the “Michael Jordan School of Don’t Say Jack, Don’t Do Jack. Just Cash Checks. Man, please”

  • This is in addition to other individual criticism on Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Above, Kobe stands his ground via his Twitter. This is a funny country, man.

YG Claims That He Wasn’t Dissing Tyga & Problem In Recent Freestyle

Recently, YG spit some bars in a freestyle on Hot 97 (for Funkmaster Flex) that seem to be directed toward West Coast peers Tyga & Problem (who some say have been jacking the DJ Mustard/YG formula). In a recent interview with MTV, he pleads the fifth:

“Look man, I was rappin’ on that freestyle, you feel me? I ain’t say nobody names, I don’t know where names came from,” YG told MTV News on Tuesday, clapping his hands with every other syllable to accentuate his words. “But if somebody, whoever feel like I was talkin’ to ’em, fo’ sho. If you don’t fo’ sho. That’s all about that.”

Billboard & Twitter To Launch Real-Time Chart

billboard

From Billboard:

New charts will be the first to use Twitter data to identify the top and emerging tracks and artists of the moment Billboard and social media platform Twitter today announced an exclusive, multi-year partnership to create Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts. The charts, which will launch in the coming weeks, will track US music conversations among the millions of Tweets sent each day. Combining the authority of the Billboard charts and Twitter’s public, real-time data, these powerful co-branded charts will reshape for consumers and the industry the way music success is measured.

As part of the initiative, Billboard and Twitter have signed a Twitter Amplify partnership, which will help distribute the chart beyond Billboard.com and include custom in-Tweet charts and in-Tweet video round ups of the week in music on Twitter

The charts will reflect the top tracks being discussed at the moment and over an extended period of time on Twitter, as well as surface the most talked about and shared songs by new and upcoming acts. The chart will live on Billboard.com and will also be shared through Billboard’s Twitter account, @billboard, multiple times a week.

“Billboard has always been the standard by which music popularity is measured, and Twitter and its millions of users worldwide have added an entirely new dimension and pace to the way the marketplace interacts with, and evaluates, music and music-makers,” said Janice Min, Co-President/Chief Creative Officer of the Entertainment Group of Guggenheim Media. “The Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts, a natural extension for media brands so in sync in the music space, stands to once again dramatically shape the conversation around the content and the business.”

“Twitter is where the music of the moment is discovered and discussed — every day, new songs and new artists are breaking on the platform,” said Bob Moczydlowsky, Twitter’s head of music. “We’re partnering with Billboard to create a ground-breaking chart to track the conversation around music as it happens. This means when artists share songs and engage with their audience on Twitter, the buzz they create will now be visible to fans, other musicians and industry decision makers in real-time.”

Lady Gaga Brings ‘G.U.Y.’ Exhibition To NYC (PICS)

Spotted on Design Trend, where you can read more on the story (pictures of the exhibition above):

Lady Gaga is taking over New York City for her birthday (March 28). She gave her fans an artful gift before her show tonight at the Roseland Ballroom.

As reported, the songstress opened up her “G.U.Y.” exhibition earlier this afternoon at the OUT NYC Hotel at West 42nd. The pieces will borrow props and scenes from her 11-minute video she released last weekend.

The “G.U.Y.” exhibition was revealed yesterday to the New York Post’s Page Six via a “spy” in Lady Gaga’s camp. Despite the last minute notification, the fans showed up in numbers outside The OUT NYC before the show officially opened.

RiFF RaFF Is Apparently Dating Katy Perry (Seriously)

This, according to Jody Highroller himself, while being straddled by another woman. In a bikini. From TMZ:

Katy Perry’s got an unlikely new BF — rapper Riff Raff — at least that’s on Riff Raff’s wish list … because he’s SMITTEN after the two went on a date last week … despite his obvious addiction to other women in thong bikinis.

Raff was out in Miami Tuesday when we asked about his date with the “Dark Horse” singer — Raff says he took Katy out for the Holy Trinity … sushi, bowling, and drinks … and he had a blast.

If Katy’s down — Raff says he’d love to see her again … maybe next week when she’s back in the country.

We’re a little surprised though — Katy’s a busty woman … and from this clip, it’s pretty clear Raff’s an ass man. You gotta see it.

If you’re thinking this is all dreams, just check out Katy Perry’s Instagram pic below:

Director Recruited For Upcoming ‘Scarface’ Remake, Which Moves The Story From Miami To Los Angeles

venue

Some new details for the upcoming recreation of the classic film Scarface….spotted on The Wrap:

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín (“No”) is in negotiations to direct the new “Scarface” movie for Universal Pictures and Marc Shmuger’s Global Produce, TheWrap has learned.

“Scarface” will reimagine the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. Universal’s update will be an original story set in modern day Los Angeles that follows a Mexican immigrant’s rise in the criminal underworld as he strives for the American Dream.

Two-time Oscar nominee Paul Attanasio (“Donnie Brasco”) wrote the current draft of the screenplay.

Marc Shmuger, who won this year’s PGA Award for Best Documentary (“We Steal Secrets”), is producing the film under his Global Produce banner along with Marty Bregman, who produced the 1983 movie.

The filmmakers plan to cast an authentic Latino who is bilingual and bicultural as the lead character, whose name will be Tony, though his last name won’t be Camonte (1932) or Montana (1983). While Oscar Isaac, Edgar Ramirez and Michael Pena rank among Hollywood’s top Latino stars who are age-appropriate for the role, the producers are also open to casting a complete unknown in the name of authenticity.
