Even though Kendrck Lamar was snubbed at the 2014 Grammy Awards, fans can look forward to his next project being another culture-shifting body of music.

During the red carpet at Music’s Biggest Night, VIBE spoke to good kid, m.A.A.d. city producers Scoop Deville, DJ Dahi and production duo THC about the early stages of the album.

“We’re in the lab right now and we’re creating music,” Scoop Deville tells VIBE. “I’m working hard on making a sound for [Kendrick] that is definitely going to take him where he needs to be—musically, sonically—the people are going to feel it. That’s what we do it for—we’re not trying to make hit records.”

Scoop also says that K. Dot has been recording demos to some of his beats and DJ Dahi, Alex Foley and Rockie also confirmed that they have started working on Kendrick’s next album.

Celebrities Speak On The Legalization Of Marijuana

Courtesy of VIBE:

Marijuana legalization in the United States made tremendous strides in 2013. States such as Colorado and Washington legalized the use of recreational weed and more are expected to follow this year.

Though, legalizing marijuana has its supporters, the anti-pot bandwagon is not a force to ignore. Despite Marijuana’s proven medicinal uses, many in this country still feel like the herb is a harmful drug. The legalization of weed remains as a hot button issue, but VIBE wanted to get some opinions from the music world.

It’s no secret that artists have used pot to help with creativity for centuries. At the 2014 Grammy Awards we talked to everyone from Paris Hilton, Birdman Willie Nelson, Juicy, J, The-Dream, Charlie Wilson, DJ Skee, Chrisette Michelle, Salaam Remi and more…

Celebrities Speak On Justin Bieber’s Latest Woes

Miley Cyrus already gave her two cents….here’s more from other peers of the industry. Courtesy of VIBE:

Justin Bieber has taken over media headlines from around the world. After his drunk driving arrest in Miami, the young singer turned himself in to Toronto police yesterday (Jan. 29) on assault charges. Musically, Justin is making some of the best material of his career, but if he can’t stay out of trouble with the law, his upcoming days could be spent behind bars. Seeking some answers from his peers, VIBE spoke to a number of celebrities at the 2014 Grammy awards to get some answers.

Juicy J: “He just made a mistake. I don’t see nothing around with it. We all make mistakes,” Juicy J tells VIBE. “Maybe next time he should get a driver but he’s smart, man. He knows what he’s doing.”

Birdman: “Me knowing him, I honestly just feel that he’s going to find his way. He’s a smart young, man.”

Paris Hilton: “I think he’s incredibly talented. He’s young and having fun,” Paris tells VIBE. “He’ll be fine.”

Mack Maine: “He’s a great kid, so he’s going to shake back from it. He’s a great kid with a big heart.

DJ Skee: “It’s tough being that age. I think he’s going to be alright. I’m pulling for him.”

The-Dream: “We have the same attorney… I’m Black but I can’t really relate. I can’t really talk about things I can’t relate to.”

Charlie Wilson: “If he would have knew me at 19, than he wouldn’t have.”

Slaughterhouse Announces Rap Battle Show

Slaughterhouse is cooking up a battle rap competition in the form of a reality show, titled The Road To Total Slaughter. As revealed through MTV’s RapFix:

The Shady Records crew explained that the new show will pit eight battle rappers against one another, in a bracket style competition, with four rappers on each side. “The winner of each side will co-headline the main event, [with] two legends in the battle game,” Royce said. “It’s probably the biggest battle you can put on right now, on behalf of Shady Records, Shady TV and Slaughterhouse.”

To make it more captivating, viewers at home will get to know each contestant better throughout the show. “It’s a reality series as well, ‘The Road to Total Slaughter,'” Joe said. “We’re gonna put those eight guys in a house, they’re gonna live with each other for a week and you’re gonna be able to see them prepare for it as well.”

The eight rappers participating in the show will be Dizaster, Math Hoffa, Daylyt, Arsonal, Cortez, Marv Won, Big T and Aye Verb, artists that Slaughterhouse describe as “top tier battlers” and “assassins.”

“It’s giving these guys a platform that they didn’t have before,” Royce told Sway. “Everybody knows they’re great if you follow them, so the goal is to put not only them, but battle rap itself, on this platform.”

Will Nas Ever Release An ‘Illmatic 2’? (Video)

For the record….I kind of considered Stillmatic to fit that role. Illmatic 3, perhaps? From VIBE:

Last Friday (Jan. 24), Nas was honored at the second annual VIBE Impact Awards in Los Angeles. As a testament to Nas’ contributions in hip-hop culture, VIBE gathered the rapper’s closest friends and supporters for a private dinner ceremony that included speeches from the likes of J. Cole and Swizz Beatz.

Before plates of sushi and bottles were popped, the Queensbridge native sat down with VIBE to discuss his future projects for 2014. Nas says that his next album is well under way and fans should expect the new project this year. The veteran MC also touched on the idea of an Illmatic 2.

“Yes and No, I’ve thought about it before,” Nas tells VIBE on whether he would want to record a sequel to his debut album. “I definitely though about that. It just has to flow, it has to be natural. I can work on that and if I don’t like it [just scrap it],” Nas continues. “I have to feel it. It got to to be honest.”

T.I. Talks Working With Pharrell, Justin Timberlake On Upcoming Album

ti

Speaking with XXL, Tip spoke on how his new album (titled Paperwork: The Motion Picture) was coming along:

T.I. has already been in the studio with the likes of Jeezy and Busta Rhymes. To keep the legacy of the late Doe B alive, he says they have several records together, but whether they’ll appear on his album is still undecided. In the meantime, Tip is particularly excited about reuniting once again with Justin Timberlake. “DJ Toomp did a record. Actually, it’s a Justin Timberlake collaboration called “Trap Me Up,” he says. “It’s an awesome record JT blessed me with.”

He adds about his sessions with Pharrell: “Also, me and Pharrell have a plethora [of songs]. We probably done recorded 14 records. Pharrell and I alone. Words couldn’t even begin to describe how cutting-edge, left-field and just how broad these records are. But they still have that texture that I speak of. They still have that Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Womack, a ridin’ dirty kind of … but a new way to present it to the world because it has that thing that Pharrell does to music that sets it apart from any and everything else that’s being played. And of course I had to give it the pulse of what I know. It’s incredible work. I did incredible work with Keno. I did incredible work with Sham [“Sak Pase” Joseph]. I have B.o.B did a record for me. It’s awesome.”

Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Macklemore & The Grammys

grammy-candids-2014-6

XXL caught up with Kendrick Lamar last night at Dom Kennedy’s concert, where he spoke on the Macklemore winning the Grammys.

On Macklemore: “It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

On Grammys: “I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
