Young Thug Talks Label Deals, Kanye West & Lil Wayne With Complex

Complex got to sit down with Young Thug recently to talk about possibly working with Kanye West, signing with Future, Fabo from D4L and more:

A lot of people will probably say you came out of nowhere this year.
They feel like I came out of nowhere, then I came out of nowhere then. [Laughs.] I been rapping since I was a little nigga, so no I didn’t come out of nowhere. I been doing it.

“Stoner” and “Danny Glover” have both become lowkey hits. What was it like to see the reaction for it, from seeing kids doing the nae nae to it to celebs rocking wit it?
“Danny Glover” was leaked out, I’m still mad to this day because I didn’t want to bring it out. I wanted people to think “Stoner” was a one-hit wonder and I wanted to crack their head with that. I’m glad it worked out the way it worked out, I’m booked up so I can’t be mad forever. It wasn’t even planned at all.

What was it like seeing Drake and Kanye rock out to “Danny Glover?”
That was amazing. It just made me turn up a little bit more.

Were you a big fan of Yeezus? I feel like you would appreciate some of the stuff he was doing on there.
I’m a big fan of everything that guy does because of who he is. It’s not even in my league to talk about it, cause I’m that that nigga too. So he can talk about him and I’ll talk about me.

But if Kanye calls and says “I want a Young Thug feature on this song” you’re there in no time, no?
I mean, I went to his house and we did a couple of songs. The fact that I was [making songs] so fast amazed him too, because he doesn’t see a lot of people who rap like that. I don’t really rap with a lot of people [because] everyone raps the same way. When I first heard he wanted to know who I was and do songs, I was smiling ear to ear like a clown.

Nelly Speaks On Madonna’s N-Word Controversy

Madonna straight “f**ked up” when she dropped the N-word online in a shout-out to her son … so says the rapper Nelly, who tells TMZ, “She need to get her sh*t right.”

Nelly was leaving a Grammy party at 1OAK nightclub on the Sunset Strip when we asked about Madge’s super-controversial Instagram post … the one where she referred to her white son Rocco as a “n**ga.”

Nelly says he’s cool with Madonna because she apologized … but it’s clear from Nelly, Madge doesn’t have, or ever will have, a pass to use the N-word.

… no matter how many black kids she adopts.

Clive Davis Reveals Whitney Houston Live Album

Clive Davis

From the L.A. Times, where you can also read on the legendary producer/music mogul speaking on his pre-GRAMMY party, an upcoming Aretha Franklin album and more:

Clive Davis typically has many irons in many fires. So even though he’s holed up in an elegant Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow he’s had at his disposal “forever” — fielding phone calls, e-mails and, yes, even faxes while organizing the annual pre-Grammy Awards bash he’s again hosting at the Beverly Hilton Hotel — the veteran producer and record executive makes a point of talking about a project especially close to his heart: a Whitney Houston live album.

“Whitney never had a live album,” he said. “I really want everyone to know … exactly why during her time she was considered the greatest contemporary singer in the world.

It was two years ago, on the afternoon of his Grammy eve bash, that he and the rest of the world got the word that Houston died in the very hotel where the party was being readied.

“It’s a revelation to hear her,” he said, “but listening to her, the tragedy hits you again, so there are a lot of mixed emotions this brings up.

“I’m going through all these recordings of her performances now, many of which I wasn’t at, such as when she was in South Africa,” said Davis, 81, dressed business casual this week in a navy V-neck sweater over a white oxford shirt and tie. “It’s a revelation: You really hear how astonishing and powerful and compelling she was in a way that wasn’t captured on the studio albums or in her movie performances.”

Davis said he expects the album to be released this year. He hinted that he might just preview it by playing a video clip for his industry audience on Saturday, which will be attended by heavy hitters from the entertainment industry including Metallica, Gladys Knight, Quincy Jones and Napster founder Sean Parker, to name a few.

Waka Flocka Speaks On His Brother’s Suicide (Video)

While Waka Flocka was in DC a few days ago, he stopped by WKYS to speak on his brother’s suicide, revealing revealed that stress was the reason behind his suicide. Waka Flocka revealed he changed his diet and became 85% Vegan in the wake of Kayo Redd’s death.

“That boy had a lot of stress on him. It’s a lot of things that go on behind doors that people don’t know about…it’s a lot of stress that come with this game. The strong survive. The family is good, though. Life goes on. That’s the motto for me, life goes on. If my eyes ain’t closed and I’m not breathing, I’m not hurting.”

“After that situation, I detoxed for like seven days. I changed my diet. I became 85 percent vegan. I just felt like I had to cleanse myself…I’ve been through that before, so to me that’s will power because if I sit there and mope, a lot of things could go bad.”

He also speaks on Love & Hip-Hop, Gucci Mane, EDM and more….you can check out more here.

No Malice Shuts Down Clipse Reunion Rumors

screen-shot-2014-01-10-at-2-18-40-pm

Pusha T really had us going for a second…..we collectively had hopes that the Clipse would make a big return in 2014. Welp, No Malice has taken to FADER by phone to shut all of that down:

There is no Clipse album in the works…It’s not going down. I don’t know where the rumor stems from. And I don’t know how this keeps coming back up—this isn’t the first time. But I would never play with the fans like that and act like something’s about to happen and it’s not.

No Malice has previously mentioned that he wasn’t going to revert back to his old ways (I guess he’s a Gospel artist now), and that may have a lot to do with it. Nonetheless, this kind of sucks.

Prodigy Gives Details On ‘The Infamous’ Bonus Disk

mobb

Prodigy of Mobb Deep gave XXL the scoop on what they can expect on the bonus disk of the group’s upcoming album The Infamous:

“We got production from Havoc, of course, and Alchemist, we got production from Illmind, Boi 1da, we got some thug shit on there…It comes with a bonus ten songs that we made in 1994 when we were creating the Infamous album that never made the album. We recently just found those old songs, and there’s verses on there from Ghostface, Raekwon, from me, N.O.R.E., the whole team, that was never heard before, that was never released. Certain skits.”

“I would just say, our signature sound is a dark, sinister-type of sound,” said Prodigy. “There’s certain things we’re going through in our lives right now, [and] the lyrics are just up to date. Everything that we’re saying is going on right now. Each album is like that, it’s a time capsule of that time period. So now in 2014, you’re gonna hear what we’re going through in our lyrics, what’s going through our head as grown men.”

Patti LaBelle Blasts Today’s R&B Divas “Who Can’t Sing”

The Summer Music Festival With Maze, Patti Labelle, The O'Jays, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds And Special Guest Tank

No name were called during this interview, but I am sure that you could make a few guesses (*ahem* Rihanna *ahem*) as to who this R&B icon might be referring to…spotted on PrideSource:

For you, what does it mean to be a diva?
That word is used so loosely that I don’t even consider myself a diva. I always considered myself a woman who sings her heart out and who gives 120 percent. “Diva” is a word that I wouldn’t wanna call myself because it’s so loosely used. It’s not cute anymore.

Is there a negative connotation to it now?
Yeah, because all these little heifers who can’t sing are called divas! It doesn’t mean anything to me and probably to some of the other ladies who have been doing it for as long as I have: Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick. You know, I’m speaking for me – I don’t know if they like to be called divas – but I know I wouldn’t call them divas, because it’s not in good company.

But it used to be a respectable term at some point.
Well, for opera singers, and for ladies who earned it, but that was way, way back when. Now you can look up to them, but you might not see what you wanna see. A hot mess! People who are doing it and doing it with about 40 people on stage with them to hide their pitifulness – that’s not a word, but you know what I mean.

Justin Nealis (Party Supplies) Confirms New Project With Alchemist & Action Bronson; Action Bronson (Sort Of) Denies It

blue_chips_mixtape_action_bronson_party_supplies

So, this was spotted in HipHopDX:

Besides solidifying Action Bronson’s position as a simultaneously charming and crass newcomer within Hip Hop, the first Blue Chips also broke Party Supplies onto the scene. The momentum from two Blue Chips projects carried over, and Nealis confirmed Party Supplies will be logging time with another frequent Action Bronson collaborator.

“We went out to LA with [Bronson] last month—me, him, Alchemist, and Sean recorded an entire EP of material under the name Jericho,” Nealis said. “Jericho may be a project that we drop, that’s really under-the-table, no one knows about that yet. Jericho may just be like a multi-genre, no label EP that may cross genres from Hip Hop to Electro to ‘80s Pop. We may bridge the gap with that actually, because some of the stuff we recorded for that, one of the songs sounds like a late ‘80s Smokey Robinson record and shit. And then, there’s some Surf Rock on there that sounds like the Beach Boys and Bronson’s rhyming on it. Alchemist made the beat. We rented pianos and keyboards. We rented a Wurlitzer, we rented a bass, we rented a few guitars and shit. We recorded a lot of original material that kind of has a very Electro sound and we’re calling it Jericho.

Then, this was spotted in XXL:

Action Bronson quickly debunked swirling hearsay by stating that the project is still in the preliminary stages.

“It’s nothing official. It’s a collective a people—Oh No, Sean [Mahon] who is also in Party Supplies, Tommy Mas. It’s just a collective of people of human beings that make music. Something is gonna come out of it and it’s probably not going to be rap. It’s probably going to be some next level shit. We are in there with all kinds of instruments, fucking frog percussions and shit. Yeah, I’m on the frog percussions! When you hear it, it’s me,” he tells XXL earlier today.

So, is there a secret project or isn’t there? Time will tell.

So, Big Boi’s Next Solo Album Is On The Way…

…and I have three thoughts:

  1. I sincerely hope that Big Boi’s next project will be more Speakerboxxx and less Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors,
  2. While he’s already said he’s working on a solo album in recent past, we’re still waiting for Andre 3000 to officially confirm that it’s dropping soon, and
  3. That new OutKast album better be as great as these upcoming festival appearances are probably going to be.
