Jay IDK Feat. Michael Christmas, Saba & Jimi Tents – My Wallet

For his latest, Jay IDK links with Michael Christmas, Saba and Jimi Tents for ‘My Wallet’, produced by Phil Jackson of The WatcherZ. He also explains the meaning behind the track to Noisey:

‘My Wallet’ is about me realizing how people start to look at me when the notice I have an expensive wallet… Women go crazy, because they think I have money. Friends and family become lazy and rely on me for the same reasons, and at the end of the day, it seems to make more sense to just have a black wallet without a logo.

The track will appear on Jay IDK’s forthcoming project The Empty Bank, out September 9th.

Swipey Ft. Ro Milli – Watever (Video) [Dir. by Dionne Milli]

Even though Swipey is gone, longtime collaborator Dionne Milli is dropping a video for “Watever”, shot before his death. Swipey and his right-hand man Ro Milli stunt in “Watever”, which Milli has turned into a tribute of sorts, to the late rapper. It’s nice to see one more reminder of what could have been, from a life cut short too soon. By the way, Swipey’s family has set up a GoFundMe for those interested in donating.

As a bonus, you can check out Swipey’s first video and a recent interview — both courtesy of Dionne Milli — below.

Rude – Street Sermon (Stream)

Made no mistake: in a city full of copycats and doppelgangers, Rude is one of the few that stand out with a style and lyrical ability of his own. Now, he presents a new project titled Street Sermon, which sees 7 tracks…those that was more can pick up the physical copy (which features an addition four songs).

RIP Swipey

As most people in the DC area have probably seen already, 18-year-old DC rapper Douglas “Swipey” Brooks was killed this weekend in Prince George’s County. Swipey was someone we had our eye on over here, and honestly, I wish we had posted him more, but the energetic artist was so active with his music that it was sometimes hard to follow. He certainly was on to something with his music. Unfortunately, we will never know. Anyways, I’ve included some Swipey favorites below. If you’re a fan these songs are nothing new, but certainly an example of his promise.

AB Icee – Law (Video)

One of most original artists out of DC, the notorious AB Icee links up with Clipstar for some new insanity. “Law” is from the upcoming mixtape, Yung Lit N***a. I see the hatred in the comments section, shout out to Hoodrich Pablo (one of my favorites out of ATL) but Icee has been rapping like this for years, no biting or anything. That’s Law.

Tokyo Daimo – Saving My City Pt. 1

Tokyo Daimo is back on attack mode with part one of two for his amazing single, “Saving My City” produced by his partner and main producer ILL Wonka. The DC anthem addresses problems with Daimo’s community, like the identity crisis in DC music and slang, issues between various local rappers, and more. Check “Saving My City” out now, with a second edition on the way soon.
