According to the Fader, TDE is accusing GQ and writer Steve Marsh of racism and portraying Kendrick Lamar inaccurately in their cover story. Read the original GQ story here and Top Dawg’s (TDE CEO and founder) response below.
In 2004, I founded Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) with the goal of providing a home for west coast artists and a platform for these artists to express themselves freely and to give their music to the world. From our beginning in 2005 with Jay Rock, to developing Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul, to most recently singing Isaiah Rashad and SZA. We, as TDE, have always prided ourselves in doing everything with heart, honor, and respect.
This week, Kendrick Lamar was named one of GQ’s 2013 Men Of The Year, an honor that should have been celebrated as a milestone in his career and for the company. Instead, the story, written by Steve Marsh, put myself and my company in a negative light. Marsh’s story was more focused on what most people would see as drama or bs. To say he was “surprised at our discipline” is completely disrespectful. Instead of putting emphasis on the good that TDE has done for west coast music, and for hip hop as a whole, he spoke on what most people would consider whats wrong with Hip Hop music. Furthermore, Kendrick deserved to be accurately documented. The racial overtones, immediately reminded everyone of a time in hip-hop that was destroyed by violence, resulting in the loss of two of our biggest stars. We would expect more from a publication with the stature and reputation that GQ has. As a result of this misrepresentation, I pulled Kendrick from his performance at GQ’s annual Man Of The Year party Tuesday, November 12th.
While we think it’s a tremendous honor to be named as one of the Men Of The Year, these lazy comparisons and offensive suggestions are something we won’t tolerate. Our reputation, work ethic, and product is something that we guard with our lives.
WMUR, a New Hampshire television news station, posted a photo of Federal fugitive Nicholas Emond on Wednesday. He was said to be considered armed and dangerous. The post received more then 250 comments including several by someone named Sin Demon.
Ha thanked everyone standing up for him and said he wasn’t the dangerous criminal the government and media made him out to be! He said he believes one of the country’s biggest problems is people being “so easily swayed by the media”. Check out some of the comments he posted that led to his arrest.
According to WMUR, Sin Demon was identified as Emond, and following his comments on Facebook he was arrested in Maine. Don’t be surprised if you see him on the next show of “America’s Dumbest Criminals”!!!
(CNN) – The House approved Republican legislation on Friday giving health insurers the option of extending plans through 2014 that would otherwise be canceled for not complying with Affordable Care Act standards.
The bill, approved 261-157, would also allow new customers to enroll in those plans. Thirty-nine Democrats crossed party lines and joined a nearly unanimous GOP caucus in voting for the measure proposed by Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan.
It has little to no chance of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate, however.
The White House has also indicated President Barack Obama would veto the measure if it reaches his desk, saying the Republican plan would undermine the integrity of the law aimed at providing health coverage to millions of Americans without it.
The Senate is taking a wait-and-see attitude about possible legislation over the politically charged insurance cancellations after Obama ordered administrative steps on Thursday to address the matter.
Obama’s signature domestic policy initiative has been marred by the disastrous launch of the HealthCare.gov website, which allows consumers to buy new health plans online, and by the policy cancellations.
Both problems have put congressional Democrats in a difficult political position since the Affordable Care Act was approved in 2010 with no Republican support and signed by Obama, a Democratic president.
Earlier, the House rejected a similar plan offered by Democrats, but it was more restrictive than the Republican measure and therefore not supported by the majority.
Separately, Obama sat down with insurance company executives on Friday at the White House.
Prior to the meeting, the President said that he and his administration would brainstorm with and solicit ideas from industry on how to smoothly carry out the changes he is making to the Affordable Care Act.
Obama said there would be a “collaborative process” around his proposal to reverse insurance plan cancellations due to broader coverage requirements under the sweeping law.
“We want to make sure that we get this done,” Obama said.
In addition to a colorful fur coat wearing Rick Ross, Pusha Ton also made the cover of this month’s Source issue. You can check out an excerpt and some behind the scenes interview action below.
Pusha T graces the cover of The Source Magazine in what marks his first major placement on a print cover as a solo artist. In the ever-changing landscape of Hip-Hop, the Virginia native has lived through personal and professional tragedies en route to releasing multiple classic albums. “The Source is where we get a bird’s eye view of the evolution of hip-hop. A cover to commemorate My Name Is My Name, is dope. Pun intended” says Pusha T. Pusha talks about working under the watchful, perfectionist eye of Kanye West, and what life as a former drug-dealer from Virginia whose outlasted both his friends and his enemies.
The House has approved a Republican-sponsored bill that would allow insurance companies to continue offering policies that would be canceled because of Obamacare and to keep selling those plans to Americans. The Keep Your Health Plan Act, H.R. 3350, was adopted by a vote of 261-157, with 17 members not voting.
The vote had been closely watched for party defections. In the end, 39 Democrats voted for the bill, while three Republicans voted against it.
The measure was introduced by Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., along with more than 150 co-sponsors, including four Democrats, Rep. Patrick Murphy of Florida, Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Rep. John Barrow of Georgia, and Rep. Mike McIntyre of North Carolina.
Before the final vote on the bill, the Democrats offered an alternative motion that many observers saw as a chance to allow House Democrats to be on the record voting for a fix to the Affordable Care Act without supporting the Republican-sponsored bill.
The Democrats’ proposal echoed the fix embraced by President Obama Thursday, which would allow people to keep policies that would have been canceled for one year.
Earlier Friday, senior Democrats said they expected as many as 40 of 50 of their number might vote in favor of Upton’s bill, according to Politico.

After months of hints, China announced Friday it will relax its decades-long one-child policy and abolish labor camps in an effort to improve human rights, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Officials had said earlier both controversial policies were under review, but that did not diminish the force of Friday’s announcement.
The biggest change could be the abolishment of the so-called “re-education through labor” system under which tens of thousands are imprisoned in China without trial.
“Reform through labor” was set up in the 1950s under Mao Zedong and modeled on Soviet gulags — a place where “counterrevolutionaries” and “class enemies” could be detained without trial.
Millions are believed to have died through overwork, suicide and harsh conditions until a system overhaul in the 1970s when Deng Xiaoping released prisoners accused of political and religious offenses.
According to the latest available figures from the Ministry of Justice, 160,000 people were held in 350 re-education through labor centers nationwide at the end of 2008. The United Nations has said the figure is possibly as high as 190,000 people.
As part of the reforms, China said it will reduce the number of crimes subject to the death penalty.
Even those who know little about China have likely heard about its one-child policy. China’s family planning laws require most families living in urban areas to have one child.
The policy will be slightly relaxed so that couples will be allowed to have two children if one of the parents was an only child, Xinhua reported. Currently, both parents must be sole children to be eligible for a second child.
Spotted on Eben Gregory, who threw up an interesting excerpt from Floyd’s recent interview with Sister2Sister Magazine:
Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is opening up a bit more about about the most recent domestic abuse charges he’s been involved with (in 2010 it was reported that he was being sought by police for questioning after his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, filed a domestic battery report against him).
Sister 2 Sister: Oh, honey, when I said I was going to do Floyd Mayweather, they said, “He beats them women up,” and “He doesn’t care about women,” and all that. I think I heard that about you before I heard about how great you are.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr.: Okay, I just want to say, what I do for a living, I’m in a contact sport, right? And if they say someone had bodily harm done to ‘em, since I’m already a fighter, before even giving me a chance, they’re going to say. “He’s guilty.” Now, restraining a woman that’s on drugs and alcohol, have I ever done that? Yes, from going crazy.
Sister 2 Sister: When you say restraining, do you mean pushing them?
Toronto’s City Council voted Friday to strip embattled Mayor Rob Ford of his ability to appoint and dismiss his senior staff in an initial move aimed at usurping power from the controversial politician.
Despite admitting last week that he had smoked crack cocaine in a “drunken stupor” about a year ago, Ford has defiantly said he will not leave his job.
“Obviously, I can’t support this,” Ford told council members. “I perfectly understand where they’re coming from.”
“Council delegated those powers and council has the ability to take those powers away,” City Solicitor Anna Kinastowski said at one point in the meeting.
While fighting for his job Thursday, Ford added to his growing list of missteps.
Early in the day, a scrum of reporters approached Ford to ask him about new allegations of drunkenness, drug use and the verbal and physical abuse of aides.
In the course of answering, he denied a female staffer’s allegation that he sought to perform oral sex with graphic language of his own, stunning reporters.
Later in the day, he backtracked.
With his wife at his side, he went back before reporters to say he had been under “tremendous, tremendous stress” and was getting unspecified support from “a team of health care professionals.” But he called the latest allegations “100% lies.”
“When you attack my integrity as a father and as a husband, I see red. Today I acted on complete impulse in my remarks,” Ford said. He took no questions from reporters, who shouted sharp inquiries at him as he entered the office.
“Mayor Ford, why should we believe you? Why would you subject your family to this?” one asked.
“What’s the matter with you, Mr. Mayor?” another said.

Chris Brown is out of rehab … because he has something more pressing … community service.
TMZ first reported … Brown checked into a Malibu rehab facility for anger management 16 days ago … after a street brawl in Washington D.C. in which he allegedly punched a guy in the face.
At the time … we were told Brown could be in rehab for up to 3 months — sources told us “The rehab facility has been told to take him [Brown] apart and put him back together.”
Now … a little more than two weeks after entering the program … Brown has checked out.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, tells TMZ his client needed to get out of the facility to start the community service he’s required to perform in the Rihanna case. As you may recall, the judge would not accept the hours Chris claimed he had done, and made him do it all over again.
Geragos would not say if rehab did the trick, but did tell us Chris will continue in outpatient therapy.

Get ready for the craziest Ricky Rozay story, as soon as you see me on the cover, pick it up, even if I’m not on the cover, still pick it up. It’s the culture.”
Drake and Rihanna met up at Houston’s V Live strip club for the after party following Drake and Future’s tour. According to several insiders, the two superstars started making it rain all over the club, spending a reported $97,000 by the end of the night.
Johnni Blaze, one of the sexy dancers at the club, tweeted her excitement after getting to dance for the “Pour It Up” singer. The Instgram account for @_dc7up also showed a video of a group of dancers counting a stack of money with the caption, “S/O TO DRAKE & RIHANNA 97k IN THE AIR @vlivehouston.”
Now, rumors are swirling about Drake’s relationship with Rihanna after their night in the club. Photos surfaced of the “No Lie” rapper sitting in the back of a packed stadium during her show in Dallas, and later they were photographed having dinner together. Is love in the air for these two?

According to the Smoking Gun a drug dealer cooperating with the FEDS has admitted shooting Suge Knight at Kanye’s VMA party and claims he got the orders and the gun from Jimmy Henchman who was also at the party.
No motive was given.
Coincidentally, or not, in his deal with the FEDS Henchman admitted giving the order for Tupac’s shooting at Quad Studios in New York.
Jimmy Henchman was recently sentenced to life in prison on drug and racketeering charges.
Michael Jordan may have retired from basketball, but that doesn’t mean he has stopped shooting. His Airness recently participated in a game of beer pong at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Miami.
Azealia Banks is really just known for “beefing” with everyone in the entertainment industry first and doing music second (seriously, just search her name on this website)…..the next name to go sour in the femcee’s mouth is none other than Pharrell Williams, who she worked with on the single ‘ATM Jam’ (that apparently didn’t do very well as a single). Check out the Tweets above.
New York City has needled out Chicago for the title of America’s tallest building.
One World Trade Center in New York will be the United States’ tallest building when completed, beating out Chicago’s Willis Tower, according to an announcement Tuesday by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
The main issue was whether a 408-foot needle atop the One World Trade Center would be counted in the total height of the tower.
The council’s height committee met on November 8 in Chicago to rule on the height of the new skyscraper. On Tuesday, the council announced that the needle, which was completed in May, was in fact a “spire” — a “vertical element that completes the architectural expression of the building and is intended as permanent.”
Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 will debut tomorrow at number 1 on the Billboard charts. According to HHD, Eminem’s new album sold an estimated 779,577 copies in its first week.
Kendrick Lamar isn’t the only artist set to hit the cover of GQ. Justin Timberlake will be joining the Cali emcee on the cover of GQ’s Man of The Year issue which hits newsstands on November 19. Read an except from the issue below.
“This face,” he says, circling it with one finger. “This recognizable face that you work so hard to get—not because you want the recognition but because you know you’re made to do it.” This face, he’s saying, comes at a cost. “The movie didn’t do well at the box office, so I should quit? Hold on a second. If I was somebody else, you wouldn’t have said that. I have the number one album this week, and I shouldn’t have released it? Come on, man. You sound like a dickhead…. It just shocked me because, like, you’re trade magazines. None of your opinions count. And by the way, none of you can do it.”
President Barack Obama has already apologized to Americans who lost their health plans under the Affordable Care Act. Now Bill Clinton is calling on his fellow Democrat to find a way to uphold an earlier vow that those who like their insurance plans can keep them.
“I personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they’ve got,” Clinton said during an interview with the website OZY.com.
Clinton did, however, spend much of the interview defending the 2010 health care overhaul.
“The big lesson is that we’re better off with this law than without it,” he said.
“The enrollment period didn’t come off well because the national website wasn’t ready,” Clinton noted. “But this happened once before. It happened when President Bush put in the Medicare drug program for seniors, which was not as complicated, but had exactly the same problem with the roll out. It was a disaster. There were people that lost their prescriptions for their existing medicine. And they fixed it.”
