3 Women Rescued After Being Held Captive For 30 Years

Three women have been freed after spending 30 years held captive in a south London home, including one woman believed to have spent her entire life in domestic slavery, police announced Thursday.

CNN Reports:

London (CNN) — British police have arrested a couple on suspicion of holding three women captive for more than 30 years, Scotland Yard announced Thursday.
Officers from the Human Trafficking Unit arrested the man and woman, both 67, at their Lambeth, south London home early Thursday as part of an investigation into slavery and domestic servitude, the Metropolitan Police said. They are in custody.
The “highly traumatized” victims — a 69-year-old Malaysian woman, 57-year-old Irish woman and 30-year-old Briton — have been taken to a place of safety and are being cared for by a charity, the Metropolitan Police said.
Police said they’d been alerted in October to the situation by Freedom Charity, which got a phone call from a woman saying “she had been held against her will in a house in London for more than 30 years.”

“We have launched an extensive investigation to establish the facts surrounding these very serious allegations,” Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland said.
“We’ve established that all three women were held in this situation for at least 30 years. They did have some controlled freedom.”
Hyland praised the actions of Freedom Charity and said police were working with the organization to support the victims.
“They are extremely traumatized, which explains the discrepancy between when the Freedom Charity were contacted and the arrests were made,” he said. “It would be wrong of us to move at a pace that would further traumatize any victims.”
Hyland said police were unsure where the youngest victim had been born, “but she appears to have been in servitude for her entire life.”
Women held captive in a London home Why slavery still exists today
Police had seen no evidence of sexual abuse, he said. “We’re very early in the investigation, we’re not investigating offenses of a sexual nature, there haven’t been any arrests of a sexual nature, so that’s the circumstances at the moment.”
Hyland said it was an unprecedented case for the Met’s Human Trafficking Unit: “We’ve seen some cases where people have been held for up to 10 years, but we’ve never seen anything of this magnitude before.”
A television documentary on forced marriages relating to the work of Freedom Charity prompted one of the victims to call for help.
Freedom Charity spokeswoman Aneeta Prem said the organization had taken “immediate action” to plan a rescue after learning of the women’s situation.
“Facilitating their escape was achieved using utmost sensitivity and secrecy and with the safety of the women as our primary concern,” she said, describing the work of those involved as “outstanding.”
CNN’s Max Foster said police had told him that the women had been released in October after sensitive negotiations by the charity.
The charity had worked to gain their trust and coax them out of the house, communicating through prearranged phone calls.
“Over time they built up that trust, the police gathered outside the house and then they had the confidence to leave the house,” Foster said. “It seems to have taken place in a suburban area of south London, in an ordinary street.”
UK Special Envoy for Human Trafficking Anthony Steen told CNN he was unsurprised by the case as there were likely to be many cases of domestic slavery in the country.
“We don’t know the number but we know it’s pretty huge. Domestics are hidden away,” he said.
“The difference between slavery when it was manifest in America — as it was in England — was that you could see it everywhere,” Steen said. “Since then having abolished it, it’s grown, it’s got bigger and bigger — in fact they say it’s between 10 and 20 times the size it was in the 1800s.”
Steen said the largest number of people involved in slavery in Britain were in brothels, and that group was followed by men held against their will in debt bondage.

‘Nuclear Option’ For Filibusters OK’d In The U.S. Senate

The Democratic controlled Senate voted to involve the so-called nuclear option out of frustration over Republicans who have been blocking President Barack Obama’s nominees.

CNN Reports:

The Democratic-controlled Senate on Thursday voted to invoke the so-called nuclear option out of frustration over Republicans who have been blocking President Barack Obama’s nominees.

The controversial move is a rules change that could make a partisan environment even more divisive because it takes away a sacrosanct right for any party in the Senate minority–the right to filibuster.

Explainer: What’s the nuclear option?

Under the old rules it took 60 votes to break a filibuster. The change now allows most filibusters of Obama nominees to be stopped with 51 votes–a simple Senate majority.

The rules change only applies to executive and judicial nominees, not Supreme Court nominees.

Typically 67 votes are required to change Senate rules, but under the nuclear option, Democrats – who control the chamber with a 55-45 majority – changed those rules with a simple majority vote.

“It’s time to get the Senate working again,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor. “Not for the good of the current Democratic majority or some future Republican majority, but for the good of the United States of America. It’s time to change. It’s time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete.

The move came about after Republicans blocked three judicial nominees to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, known as the highest court in the land after the Supreme Court.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Reid “promised over and over again that he wouldn’t break the rules of the Senate to change the Senate.”

“When Democrats were in the minority they argued strenuously for the very thing they now say we will have to do without, namely the right to extend a debate on lifetime appointments. In other words they believe that one set of rules should apply to them and another set to everybody else,” he added.

Until now, Reid hadn’t necessarily had support from enough of his own Democratic caucus to pass a rules change. Some Democratic senators were reluctant to change the rules–because of reverence for the institution and, more importantly, because they know Democrats will not always be in the majority.

The beauty of the way the Senate works, as opposed to the House, is that the minority has more power. The filibuster, a 60 vote hurdle, was one of the biggest weapons in the minority’s arsenal.

But Senate veterans like Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California who had been opposed to the nuclear option – changing Senate rules – recently changed their minds. Feinstein and others, like fellow Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, said things are so broken in Washington that the nuclear option was the only way to fix it.

Many Republicans argued Democrats were just trying to manufacture a crisis in order to create a distraction from the Obamacare rollout debacle.

“Sounds to me like Harry Reid is trying to change the subject and if I were taking all the incoming fire that he is taking over Obamacare I’d try to change the subject too,” House Speaker John Boehner said in his weekly press conference.

“This changes everything, this changes everything,” Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, told reporters on Capitol Hill.

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, told reporters the nuclear option “puts on a chill on the entire United States Senate.”

“I have reached to them. I spent an hour in Harry Reid’s office. Come on. I reached out until my arms ache,” McCain added. “They are governed by these hard over, newer members of Democratic senators who have never been a minority, who are primarily driving this issue and they succeeded and they will pay a very, very heavy price for it.”

In 2005, the then majority Republicans threatened the nuclear option to prevent Democratic filibusters of President George W. Bush’s judicial nominees. The confrontation was averted thanks to an agreement by a bipartisan group of 14 senators.

Santana Moss Goes In On Robert Griffin III

Washington Redskins Quarterback, Robert Griffin III (RG3), made some comments following the 24-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, this past Sunday. Those comments have caused some tension in the Redskins locker room, and has sparked some rebuttals from his teammates and criticism from former Redskins players. Veteran receiver, Santana Moss, went on record to say:
” If we’re going to win games, we need to win games with our guy saying, ‘At the end of the day, I didn’t make a play,’ regardless of if it wasn’t him.”

Jay Z Purchases Basquiat Painting For $4.5M

“Inspired by Basquiat, my chariot’s on fire
Everybody took shots, hit my body up, I’m tired
Build me up, break me down to build me up again
They like, Hov we need you back so we can kill your ass again”
-Jay-Z

Rapper Jay-Z took his inspiration by Jean-Michel Basquiat to the next level and purchased a 1982 art piece titled “Mecca”, at Sotheby’s in Manhattan for $4.5Million, from the fellow Brooklyn native, who OD’d on Heroin in 1988, at the age of 27.

taken from Sotheby's website JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT 1960 - 1988 MECCA signed, titled and dated 1982 on the reverse acrylic and oilstick on canvas mounted on wood supports 70 x 68 7/8 in. 177.8 x 172.4 cm.

The NY Post reported on Monday:

The Brooklyn-born rap impresario was the anonymous buyer of a quirky 1982 Basquiat painting titled “Mecca’’ at Sotheby’s in Manhattan last week, a source told The Post.

His hefty purchase — an orange, white and black acrylic and oil-stick work — features the Empire State Building under a trademark Basquiat crown.

Its estimated sale price was between $4 million and $6 million, so the rapper got something of a steal.

But it doesn’t look as if money would have been an object anyway — Jay Z has had a love affair with the late graffiti artist and fellow Brooklyn native for several years.

Jay Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has repeatedly included in his songs references to Basquiat — who OD’d on heroin in 1988 at age 27.

He said one of Basquiat’s paintings even inspired an entire track — and has lovingly talked about a print of that work that he owns.

The painting, “Charles the First,’’ was the basis for his 2010 song “Most Kingz,’’ the rapper has said. It opens with the lyrics “Inspired by Basquiat, my chariot’s on fire.”

In his 12th, and most recent, studio album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” Jay Z references some $493 million worth of art, according to Forbes.

In one track, “Picasso Baby,’’ Jay Z gives a nod to Basquiat by rapping, “It ain’t hard to tell, I’m the new Jean-Michel.”

Teen Playing The Knockout Game Gets Shot Twice By Victim

The new cowardly knock out game, that has been trending on the internet, come with real life consequences, and a Michigan Teen found out all about it this past Monday.

The video we bring you today took place in Lansing, Michigan, where a teen attempted to taze an unsuspecting man waiting to pick up his daughter at a school bus stop. Tazing is a new addition to the knockout game.

When Marvell Weaver approached the father to taze him, he had no idea that his intended victim was legally carrying a handgun for self-defense.

When the attempted ‘hit” failed, the father simply pulled out his fully-registered and legal handgun, and calmly shot Weaver twice. Weaver was then imprisoned, given a trial and pled guilty to his crime.

The Knockout Game is a cruel and cowardly way to attack innocent people. But gamers be warned, people are not just fighting back…they are shooting back as well.

The report goes on to say without continued therapy and a strong recovery support network, Probation says his prognosis is “very guarded.”

And here’s an interesting detail from the report: before Chris entered rehab on October 29th, he says he had issues with Attention Deficit Disorder and also underwent a period of depression.

TMZ broke the story … Chris got booted from the Malibu facility earlier this month following the outburst … after just two weeks of treatment.

As we reported, the judge has just ordered Brown to 90 days in a facility and also ordered him to submit to drug testing.

San Francisco Police Accused Of Brutality In Arrest Of Bicyclist

If this is true, I will be extremely upset. According to SFist, San Francisco police are accused of beating a 20 year-old San Francisco resident, D’Paris “DJ” Williams, for riding his bike on the sidewalk and then fighting with other residents of Valencia Gardens, the neighborhood where the incident took place. 7 people were hospitalized after the incident, two were policemen. The video above depicts DJ’s arrest and police fighting other Valencia Gardens residents.  ABC News’ John Alston and Lyanne Melendez had more info;

Early Tuesday evening a police protest took place because some residents in San Francisco say officers went too far in an arrest that was captured on video.

ABC7 News obtained cellphone video shortly after Friday’s incident at the Valencia Gardens Apartments. Demonstrators marched from the apartments to the nearby Mission police substation.

The video was given to the Office of Citizen Complaints and that office will determine whether or not police went too far…

“It was not a pretty incident,” said San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr.

Police say D’Paris Williams, 20, was told by undercover police officers to stop after riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.

His cousin Selena Rodriguez told ABC7 News Williams never heard them. She said, “He was on his bike. He had his headphones on and hoody on, so he didn’t hear them.”

But Suhr told ABC7 News as Williams was being cited, he walked toward his apartment. That’s when police grabbed his shoulder. Suhr says Williams then bit one of the officers.

“They’re thinking, ‘Does this person have a gun? Is the bicycle stolen? Is the person up to something else?'” said Suhr.

The undercover police are members of the Violence Reduction Team. That unit has confiscated 10 guns in the area in the last 30 days. But on Friday night, no guns were ever found and as the arrest was happening, a crowd gathered and tried to intervene.

Rodriguez says her brother seen on video with a bloody face was also caught in the altercation.

“They over abused their power and they hurt him. They hurt him so of course his family is going to help, that’s family. That’s with anybody. I’m sure if you’re walking on the street and you see someone being abused by the police, you’re going to help them,” said Rodriguez.

“The officers are also being punched at, right? Our rule is that they can use whatever force reasonable to overcome the resistance,” said Suhr.

Five officers were hurt, two were taken to the hospital. The four men arrested were also injured. For now the District Attorney George Gascon decided against formally charging them, pending a further investigation.

Gascon is waiting for the surveillance video located at the apartment complex. That may or may not show Williams biting the police officer.

“I want justice for my kids because they beat up my kids and they arrested them and threw them in jail like criminals. Neither one of my children have records,” said Jenifer Eaton, a San Francisco resident who demonstrated on Tuesday.

“He’s upset about what happened. I mean, to me, he was profiled. Whether police think what they did was wrong or not, it was wrong,” said Yvonne Quintana, Williams’ aunt.

The demonstrators are planning another gathering in the neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

VIDEO/PICS: Man Posts Facebook Photo With Daughter, Kills Her, Then Tries To Commit Suicide (& Fails)

Pictures and snapshots below….from NY Daily News:

Moments after posting a photo of his beautiful baby daughter online, a disturbed dad made good on a Facebook threat and killed the toddler with a bullet to her head.

The chilling crime unfolded on social media after the little girl’s mom awoke Monday morning to her estranged baby daddy standing over her bed with a handgun, police in Colorado told the Daily News Tuesday.

The mom fought with her jealous ex-beau and fled to a neighboring apartment where she desperately called 911, cops said.

When police arrived on scene, an officer entered to find Merrick McKoy and little Mia with gunshot wounds, police said.

Both were rushed to a local hospital, but only McKoy survived. He was in critical condition.

“I told u I can’t live without u lol u thought I was joking now me n Mia out this bitch,” McKoy, 22, wrote on his Facebook page shortly before gunning down 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa.

The cowardly dad made an exaggerated face with puckered lips as he held the helpless youngster in his arms for one last, haunting father-daughter portrait. “Don’t judge me had no choice,” he wrote in his final Facebook post before carrying out his fiendish plan.

The little girl’s mother, Kimphone (Kim) Phanthavongsa, 21, had an active restraining order against McKoy following a domestic violence incident, Westminster, Colo., police confirmed.

The mom was “hysterical” when she learned of her daughter’s fate, so police have yet to interview her, a police spokeswoman told The News.

“We’re trying to be very respectful of the fact that she tragically lost her child,” Investigator Cheri Spottke said, calling the incident “particularly heinous.”

Pharrell Williams Named GQ’s Hitmaker Of The Year 2013

pharrell-williams-men-of-the-year-gq-magazine-december-2013-style-01

Straight from the source:

Most of 2013 was business as usual for Pharrell Williams. You know, make tracks with living legends you call friends (Jay Z, Beyoncé); receive some hero worship from creative spawns like Miley Cyrus and Tyler, the Creator, who grew up on your jams; further cement an already rock-solid legacy as one of the most stylish men on the planet. (He got married in a tartan tux.) Yes, this year was shaping up to be just another year of wearing mascara to the Met Ball one day and working with ex-drug-dealing rapper Pusha T the next. What we didn’t expect was for him to dominate the nation’s collective speaker box the way he did back when Britney was a slave 4 us (2001) and Nelly found it hot in herre (2002). In fact, for this year’s summer anthem, Pharrell’s only competition was Pharrell. Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” duked it out for the top spot and inspired more wedding dance-floor soul claps than “Brick House” and “Play That Funky Music” combined. P’s take on his tandem of 2013 hits? “Both songs are for people who need a break,” he says. “There’s a lot of fucked-up travesty in the world. Sometimes you just need a Hallmark card. Sometimes you just need to shake your ass.”

Chris Brown Reportedly Got Violent In Rehab

Chris Brown

TMZ reports:

Chris Brown went into a VIOLENT RAGE while in rehab earlier this month for his anger issues … TMZ has learned … throwing objects and breaking them … and we’ve learned the D.A. will use this and other incidents later today in court to make the case that he belongs in jail … NOW.

Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2013/11/20/chris-brown-jail-rehab-violent-criminal-charges-rihanna/#ixzz2lEaepeDX

We’re told the rehab facility wanted him OUT after the incident … and that’s why he bailed after only 2 weeks.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … the L.A. County Probation Dept. is submitting information to the judge today about the incident, along with the criminal assault charge in Washington, D.C. We’re told the Probation Dept will ask the judge to order Chris into a live-in anger management program for a period of months.

Our sources say the D.A. isn’t as forgiving and will ask the judge during today’s progress hearing in the Rihanna beating case to revoke his probation and send him to jail — as early as today.

The hearing is set for 2 PM. We’ll be there.

Chief Keef Pays 11K In Back Child Support To Avoid Jail

chief keef and his baby momma

According to TMZ, rapper Chief Keef, was able to dodge a bullet and avoid serving jail time, for his child support issues.  The rapper agreed to pay a little bit over 50% of what he owed in child support to his “baby mama”, and in return he would be able to stay out of jail.

TMZ has obtained court docs which show on October 21st, the judge in Cook County, IL made Keef an offer he couldn’t refuse — cut a check for $11k to your baby mama and you won’t go to jail.

Keef (smartly) forked over the dough … which means cops won’t be ordered to arrest him on sight.

But Keef ain’t exactly out of the woods yet — the rapper is due back in court on December 10 to face the music for blowing off mandatory child support hearings earlier this year.

If the judge finds Keef to be in contempt, he could be sent back to the slammer … where he’s already been this year (twice!) for drug-related offenses.

Drake Sparks Romance Rumors With Rockstar’s Daughter

Drake-and-Zoe-Kravitz

A new photo of Drake and rockstar legend Lenny Kravitz daughter, Zoe Kravitz, hanging out on his tour bus has began to pop up all over the Internet.

Drake’s, Would You Like A Tour?, continues to bring out the stars. Just a few days ago, the rapper was snapped hanging with none other than Zoe Kravitz after a show. In the photo posted by Drake’s Word On Road fan site, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet leans inside Drizzy’s tour bus while the rapper talks on his phone. Several blogs and sites began to wonder if the two were more than just friends. “Could Drake have a new lady in his life? The rapper was spotted packing on the #PDA with Zoe Kravitz while the two were in Toronto.” tweeted ET Canada not too long ago. (RapFix)

Drake has been hanging out, off and on, with Zoe for the past couple of years, so we might have a love spark here. But sources say that singer Rihanna is not very happy about the new couple, sub tweeting subliminal messages showing her frustrations.

Footage Of ‘Knock Out Game’ Spreading Across The Country

Sandra Rose reports:

Authorities say a brutal “knock out game” perpetrated by roaming gangs of youths is responsible for 6 deaths across the country.

In one notorious incident in 2012, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for sucker punching a well-liked teacher in Philadelphia. Since that incident there have been other cases of similar violence against men and women in New York and New Jersey.

In the latest incident in Midwood, a woman was attacked in broad daylight by a young man who walked up behind her, balled up his fist and hit her with all his might on the top of her head then ran off.

The woman, who was loaded down with shopping bags, was not robbed by her assailant.

“She had her purse, she had bags from department stores. There was not even an attempt to take anything from her. It was just a wanton act to hurt another human being,” the victim’s daughter told CBS 2’s Dave Carlin.

“How would you feel if this was happening to you or a member of your family?” she said, “If you don’t like it to happen to you or a member of your family, don’t do it to someone else.”

Psychologists say teens and young men who sucker punch their victims with enough force to knock them out are emotionally troubled people who were probably bullied in school or beaten by their parents as children.

Congressman Charged With Cocaine Possession

radel

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Trey Radel is due in D.C. superior court Wednesday, charged with misdemeanor cocaine possession after an October 29 arrest, according to court documents.

The 37 year-old Florida Republican is serving his first term in Congress after winning office last November.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said Tuesday that the charges come with a maximum 180 day imprisonment and/or $1,000 fine.

“I’m profoundly sorry to let down my family, particularly my wife and son, and the people of Southwest Florida,” Radel said in a statement released by his office. “I struggle with the disease of alcoholism, and this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. As the father of a young son and a husband to a loving wife, I need to get help so I can be a better man for both of them.”

“However, this unfortunate event does have a positive side. It offers me an opportunity to seek treatment and counseling. I know I have a problem and will do whatever is necessary to overcome it, hopefully setting an example for others struggling with this disease.”

Radel is a former journalist and TV news anchor.

George Zimmerman’s Bail Set At $9,000 Following Recent Arrest

(CNN) — A Florida judge on Tuesday set bail for George Zimmerman at $9,000 and ordered a number of conditions for his freedom — including that he not possess weapons — while he awaits trial on charges he pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend.

Zimmerman, arrested Monday at his girlfriend’s Apopka home, four months after he was acquitted of murdering teenager Trayvon Martin, might post bail Wednesday morning after all the conditions for his release are arranged, a public defender representing him said.

Zimmerman said little as a judge, during Zimmerman’s first appearance Tuesday afternoon in Seminole County court, said he found probable cause for Zimmerman’s arrest on a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. Zimmerman’s arraignment has been scheduled for January 7.

A prosecutor revealed a new allegation against Zimmerman while trying to argue for a higher bail — that Zimmerman tried to choke his girlfriend a week and a half before Monday’s alleged shotgun incident, and that Zimmerman had talked about suicide.

Assistant State Attorney Lymary Munoz argued for $50,000 bail, saying that new information should heighten concern for the accuser’s safety, though the alleged incident hadn’t been reported to police.

The new allegation is not reflected in the preliminary charges. But Judge Fred Schott cited the choking accusation when he put the bail at $9,000, saying it prompted him to set it higher than the $4,900 requested by the defense.

UPDATE: Virginia Lawmaker Stabbed; Son Dead

UPDATE: Senator Deeds has been updated to “fair condition” according to WSLS, he has reportedly spoken to authorities.

****************************************

Virginia state Senator Creigh Deeds (also a former Candidate for governor) is in critical condition after being stabbed in the head multiple times in his home.  His 24-year old son was also shot and killed at the same location.  Deeds is best known as a conservative democrat who ran for Governor of Virginia in 2009.  More via CNN

(CNN) — Whatever happened, it was an awful tragedy: a state senator repeatedly stabbed in the head and torso; his 24-year-old son fatally wounded by a gunshot.
That’s the scene Virginia State Police and Bath County, Virginia, sheriff’s deputies encountered when they rushed to state Sen. Creigh Deeds’ home in response to a 911 call Tuesday morning.
Tuesday afternoon, investigators reported the evidence collected so far indicates that Deeds was stabbed during a fight with his son, Austin “Gus” Deeds, who died of a gunshot wound despite state troopers’ attempts to revive him.
“Based on the evidence we have, we are looking at this as an attempted murder and suicide,” Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told reporters. No one else was in the house at the time of the altercation, and investigators are not seeking any other suspects, Geller said.
Deeds was airlifted to University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where his condition was upgraded from critical to fair Tuesday afternoon, spokeswoman Angela Taylor said.
CNN affiliate WTVR: Deeds stabbed multiple times
Geller said Deeds walked out of the house after being stabbed and was found walking along the road by a cousin who lived nearby. The senator was able to talk with investigators both before he was airlifted to the hospital and afterward, she said.
Deeds, 55, is well known in Virginia political circles. A Democrat, he ran for attorney general in 2005 and for governor in 2009, both times against Republican Bob McDonnell, who is now Virginia’s governor.
CNN affiliate WSLS: Updates on Deeds after stabbing
His son withdrew from The College of William & Mary last month after being enrolled off-and-on since 2007, according to a statement from the school. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Tuesday that Gus Deeds had been given a mental health evaluation under an emergency custody order Monday, but was released because no psychiatric bed could be located across a wide area of western Virginia, Dennis Cropper, executive director of the Rockbridge Area Community Services Board, told the newspaper.
Geller said she was unable to comment on that report, citing medical privacy laws.
McDonnell issued a statement calling Tuesday’s events “heartbreaking.”
“In this tough and sad time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Deeds family. The news from this morning is utterly heartbreaking,” he said. “Creigh Deeds is an exceptional and committed public servant who has always done what he believes is best for Virginia and who gives his all to public service. He cares deeply about Virginia, and the people of Virginia care deeply for him.”
On Twitter, Sen. Mark Warner called the report “stunning news.”
“I am praying for @CreighDeeds and his family at this very, very difficult time,” he tweeted.
