J. Cole: “Barack Obama Would Not Be President If He Were Dark Skin”
J. Cole spoke on anti-gay lyrics and Hip-Hop homophobia with BET. He also gave his opinion on the power of skin-color, using President Obama as an example. Real Talk NY reports:
BET: You got some backlash for anti-gay lyrics and you gave a statement to the Huffington Post. Do you regret using the word “f*****”?
No, not at all. It’s much different than the autism thing, it wasn’t conscious; that was a slip-up, being offensive without intent. The line was to engage the conversation of homophobia in Black culture and in hip hop. I thought it was going to be a way more interesting conversation that came from it. Of course I made the statement, but I thought from that it would spawn better conversations like, “Why are we so homophobic?”
BET: You’ve talked about including dark-skinned women in your music videos versus all light-skinned women. The light-skinned, dark-skinned issue certainly affects women in hip hop; does it affect men in hip hop?
I can’t say it for sure but I just think we’re still in America. We’re still Black Americans. Those mental chains are still in us. That brainwashing that tells us that light skin is better, it’s subconsciously in us, whether we know it or not… still pursuing light skin women. There are some women out there that are like, “I don’t even like light skin men” and that’s fine. But Barack Obama would not be President if he were dark skin. You know what I mean? That’s just the truth. I might not be as successful as I am now if I was dark skin. I’m not saying that for sure, I’m still as talented as I am and Obama is still as smart as he is, but it’s just a sad truth… I don’t even know if this is going to translate well into text and people not hearing what I’m saying, but it’s a sad reality. So I can only naturally assume it’s probably easier for a light skin male rapper than it might be for a dark skin male rapper. It’s all subconscious s***, nobody’s aware — I think that s*** still subconsciously affects us.
2 Chainz Arrested After Tour Bus Standoff (Details)
TMZ reports:
TMZ broke the story…2 Chainz’ tour bus was pulled over in OKC around midnight after police noticed its taillights were out. When they approached the vehicle, cops say they noticed signs of drug use and attempted to board the bus.
But the bus driver locked the police out, insisting they obtain a warrant first.
Police did just that and eventually entered the bus hours later, where they arrested 11 passengers for “interfering with the police process,” including 2 Chainz.
It’s unclear if they face additional charges, or whether police found drugs.

[RG3] ain’t no rapper, at least I don’t think so; he probably could if he wanted to. If I was telling a story to get inside of Robert’s mind, what would he say? That’s pretty much it.
DMX Arrested For Marijuana Possession In South Carolina
From CNN:
Rapper DMX had another run-in with police in South Carolina this week, ending with a citation for marijuana possession.
The arrest in Greer, South Carolina, comes four weeks after he was charged with drunken driving in Greenville, just one town away.
DMX — whose real name is Earl Simmons — was a passenger in a Ford F-350 truck stopped by police for allegedly making an improper lane change Tuesday night, according to the police report.
The police report said the officer immediately recognized Simmons, 42, and knew that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court for a previous charge.
The officer reported seeing “a bag of green plant material I knew to be marijuana” on the passenger door where Simmons was sitting. The rapper denied it was his and then told police he “had breathing trouble.”
“At this point, Mr. Simmons became very aggressive with his words and was making multiple idle threats,” the police report said. “The smell of alcohol coming from his person became very strong.”
Simmons was placed under arrest for the warrant and also cited for simple possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Greer jail, but released on bail hours later, a police spokesman said.
Hip-hop highs: Long on lyrics, short on rehabThe artist’s publicist defended DMX in a written statement to CNN Wednesday.
“Although officers pulled them over for a minor traffic violation, DMX was asked to step outside so they can search the vehicle,” Domenick Nati said. “Officers then claimed that they found bags of marijuana in the floorboard and arrested X. No drugs were found on DMX or the other passengers and the alleged bags of marijuana were never shown to DMX or the other passengers.”
Anitra Rhodes, 39, was charged with improper lane change and simple possession of marijuana after three bags of suspected marijuana were found under the driver’s seat, the police report said. Nati said Rhodes is DMX’s assistant.

Scott Storch Speaks On Being Robbed At Gunpoint
Get More:
2013 VMA, Artists.MTV, Music
Above is Storch’s response to the incident, courtesy of Sway…..TMZ’s original report is below. Glad he’s still here with us.
39-year-old Storch just filed a police report in NYC, claiming he was leaving the New York Palace hotel on Madison Ave. when he was approached by two men with guns while he was inside a waiting SUV who said, “Give us all your jewelry and cash or you’re dead.”
Law enforcement sources tell us Storch handed over a briefcase which contained $4k to $5k in cash … along with several pieces of jewelry, worth around $100,000.
The men also demanded the driver of the SUV hand over the keys to the ride so they couldn’t drive away … and the driver complied.
Eventually, we’re told the bad guys ran off without opening fire. Storch says he tried to chase after the guys to see where they were headed, but they got away.
Storch — who’s in town for the MTV VMAs — went to a nearby police station and filed a report.

UPDATE: Kendrick Lamar Awarded Platinum Plaque For “good kid, m.A.A.d. City”
UPDATE: Let it be known that Kendrick Lamar has officially sold a million copies in the United States (he is currently listed at roughly 1,003,000 after selling an additional 9,000 units this week). Congrats.
****************************************
Despite his album being about 60,000 records short of going platinum in the US, Kendrick Lamar was still presented a plaque by Interscope and TDE during an afterparty they hosted following the BET Experience music festival, and for good reason: good kid, m.A.A.d. City is still on track to officially sell one million copies nation-wide before the one-year anniversary of its release. The album is still selling over 9,000 copies a month, keeping it on the Billboard 200 (according to HipHOPDX).

Largest Gun Bust In NYC History….All Thanks To A Rapper’s Instagram (Video)
It should be noted that I emphasized the whole rapper thing because all the news reports are…..and this really has nothing to do with the two probably weak-ass mixtapes that the guy has released. From Daily Mail (you can also check out plenty of images before):
The New York City Police Department was tipped off to the largest gun bust in city history through an aspiring Brooklyn rapper’s Instagram posts.
Matthew Best – who has released a couple mixtapes under the name Neno Best – was regularly posting photos and video of guns and wads of cash online, saying he was selling weapons out of his Ocean Hill recording studio.
That led police to a multi-state gun trafficking ring that netted 254 firearms and 19 indictments.
Initially the department was investigating drug charges on Best after he started posting the photos. By wiretapping him, investigators were led to two men in the Carolinas who were smuggling guns separately but using the same middleman in New York City.
Walter Walker and Earl Campbell sourced guns from suppliers in their hometowns of Sanford, North Carolina and Rock Hill, South Carolina and sold them on the black market in New York.
When the NYPD found out about the illegal business, they sent an undercover officer posing as a gun broker to buy the weapons off the two men.
The smugglers would take pictures of the guns they were offering and send it to the undercover officer.
They would then transport the guns into the city, using cheap Chinatown buses to avoid attracting attention or having their bags checked by security.
Apparently the city’s stop-and-frisk policy was a concern for the smugglers. Commission Ray Kelly read from one wiretap where a gun distributor alluded to the controversial search: ‘Yeah, I’m in Charlotte now, I can’t take them to my town…we got like whatchamacallit, stop-and-frisk.’
The fares on these buses are about half that charged by Greyhound, which, unlike the Chinatown buses, requires identification for boarding.
Walker met two times last year with the middleman and the undercover officer at the rapper’s Brooklyn recording studio to sell the undercover firearms, the indictment said. He also allegedly sold weapons to the undercover officer in April in Manhattan.
In January, Campbell’s girlfriend transported a disassembled gun in a zebra-striped suitcase.
When they arrived in New York she proceeded to take the weapon parts out of the bag and assemble them in the back of a car watching a YouTube tutorial for guidance.
When she couldn’t figure out how to put the weapon together, the undercover cop bought the pieces anyway for $1,100.
Walker and Campbell were arrested earlier this month by local police in their home states, authorities said. The names of their defense attorneys were not immediately available.
New York has some of the nation’s strictest gun-control measures and a mayor who has crusaded for tougher laws in other states.
‘There is no doubt that the seizure of these guns has saved lives,’ Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a news conference.

Scott Boras Throws A Shot At Jay Z?
The Urban Daily reports:
As a hip-hop head, you already know Jay Z likes to air out his personal grievances on wax. Need we remind you of his diss tracks towards Nas, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, and the shots he’s taken at Lil Wayne and other lower level rappers. Now that Jay is taking his talents to the sports management arena, he’s taking shots at rival agents such as Scott Boras.
Boras is a legendary baseball agent who once represented New York Yankee Robinson Cano. Cano recently left Boras and signed with Roc Nation Sports. That move prompted Jay to taunt Scott Boras on the song “Crown,” where he rapped, “Scott Boras, you over baby! Robinson Cano, you coming with me!” Since spitting that line, people have been asking Scott Boars for a response, but he has remained quiet. However, he did send one small, but effective shot Jay Z’s way.
When someone asked Boras about how effective Jay Z would be negotiating with sports teams, Boras referenced Jay Z’s hit single “Empire State of Mind.” Boreas said, “When your agent wears a Yankee hat, When your agent wears a Yankee hat?” While at first glance, that’s not really a shot, but it most certainly is. Jay Z rapped, “I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can.”
So basically, Boras just said, “Jay Z, your diss was cute, but you still haven’t netted your artists $5 billion in deals and endorsements. Have a seat!” Ether 2.0?
Drake’s ‘Nothing Was The Same’ Pushed Back?
According to Hits Daily Double and retailers like Best Buy, the album was pushed back a week later than originally announced — on September 24th.
In related news, Drake’s new single ‘Hold On We’re Going Home‘ is now #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and one of the fastest growing songs across multiple formats on the radio right now. Nothing Was The Same is set to feature Lil Wayne, JAY Z, Hudson Mohawke and more.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Drake Speaks On Issues With Kanye West
We have been off and on with the whole ‘Quote of the Day’ thing, but if there’s a good one, I’ll post it. This one comes from Drake’s latest interview in XXL:
“It’s tough to get into a war of words with Kanye because he’s a huge reason why I’m here, why I’m confident enough to step to a mic and say, “Ok, I don’t have any murder or bricks or drugs to talk about, but I can tell you about myself, and if you’re willing to listen we can get into it.” Kanye was kind of the first guy to give me that boost of confidence. It’s tough to engage in any sort of confrontation with that guy. At the end of the day, I do look up to him. And if he feels the need to remind people that, so be it.”

Cops Find A Gun That May Be Linked To Aaron Hernandez
ESPN reports:
Massachusetts State Police have recovered a gun they say was used in a 2012 double homicide in Boston allegedly linked to former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, according to multiple reports.
The gun was found in the car of Jailene Diaz-Ramos, 19, after she was involved in accident on June 21 on Interstate 91 in Springfield, Mass., reports say. It’s uncertain what connection Diaz-Ramos, who is from Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, Conn., has to Hernandez.
CBS 3 in Springfield reported that ballistic tests show the gun is the same one used in July 2012 when Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Teixeira Furtado, 28, were shot outside a Boston club. Witnesses have told police they were fired at from an SUV with Rhode Island license plates, a vehicle resembling one towed from Hernandez’s uncle’s house in Bristol. The shooting reportedly occurred following an altercation at a club between Hernandez, his group and others.
Hernandez remains jailed in Mass., charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd on June 17. Hernandez has a probable cause hearing scheduled for Thursday. It has been widely reported that Lloyd may have had knowledge about the Boston slayings.
Authorities have not recovered the gun used in the Lloyd shooting. However, video cameras in Hernandez’s home appear to show him carrying a gun in the hours after the shooting.

We spoke to Raz’s publicist, Toy Jones, who tells us, “He is in a coma and needs as many prayers as possible.”
As we previously reported, the 28-year-old was performing at a club in China on Thursday and was smashed in the face with a glass bottle while trying to break up a fight that erupted in the crowd.
Raz received medical attention hours after the incident –and underwent minor surgery to repair a gash in his lip.
But the next day, sources close to Raz tell us he didn’t wake up … and Raz’s backup dancer rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
We’re told doctors tested for brain activity and determined the situation was dire. Sources say Raz is breathing from a ventilator … and has been slipping in and out of consciousness.
Lee Thompson Young Of ‘Friday Night Lights’, Disney’s ‘Jett Jackson’ Dead
From TMZ:
Lee Thompson Young — who played the main character on Disney’s “The Famous Jett Jackson” — has died after what officials believe is a suicide … TMZ has learned. He was 29.
Sources tell us Young’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted.
Young currently appears in the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles” — and we’re told when he didn’t show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young’s L.A. home to check up on the actor.
We’re told … when the landlord opened the door, he discovered Young’s body.
