One of the good ones, one of the best representers of the DMV, taken away from his loved ones by a coward P.O.S. — at his birthday celebration at that. As reported on Yahoo! Sports:
Cliff Dixon, who Golden State Warriors’ star Kevin Durant refers to as his ‘adopted brother,’ was shot and killed in Atlanta, according to multiple reports.
Dixon was killed outside of an area strip mall early Thursday morning, per a report by Fox 5 Atlanta. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he later died, according to an early report by Fox 5.
The Louisville Courier-Journal, citing police, reported that Dixon had just arrived when he was shot multiple times in the parking lot. It’s approximately 15 miles outside of Atlanta.
One of the earliest artists from D.C.’s Hip-Hop renaissance, the super-talented Phil Adé’s catalog still holds up today as classics. Now, the man now going as simply Adé looking to take his spot back: the Epic Records emcee has announced his new EP titled Always Something (which, as you’ll see in the above tracklisting, is a dope concept given the fact that fellow DMV peer Wale had the “Nothing” releases). In addition, Lil Baby, Fatman Scoop, Rich The Kid, Goldlink and the aforemention Folarin provide assistance as well.
It all goes down this Friday (2/15).
You can read the full report over at TMZ:
We now have the transcript of Tekashi’s plea hearing from last week, and he opens up about how he got involved in the criminal activity, and does a lot of snitching.
In court, he says he joined the Nine Trey Bloods in the fall of 2017 and in March 20, 2018 … he admits helping members of the gang attempt to kill a rival to “increase my own standing in Nine Trey.” Then on April 3, he says he, and other members, robbed a rival at gunpoint.
He got into the Chief Keef shooting … saying in court, “I paid a person to shoot at a rival member of Nine Trey to scare him. The shooting took place in Manhattan. I did this to maintain or increase my own standing in Nine Trey.” He admits knowing a fellow gang member was the trigger man.
Tekashi also admitted to selling a kilo of heroin in 2017 — and offered an apology for all his crimes, saying … “I apologize to the Court, to anyone who was hurt, to my family, friends and fans for what I have done and who I have let down.”
Based on what we know, Tekashi has struck a plea deal which will increase the likelihood of a significantly reduced sentence in return for ongoing cooperation. Although the minimum sentence is 47 years, the way it typically works is the prosecution will ask for significantly less … which is his incentive to keep singing like a canary.
The problem Tekashi faces … by agreeing to cooperate for the next year — while the prosecution dangles the carrot of a light sentence — he’s increasing the possibility someone will try to silence him.
BTW, he did indeed plead guilty to ALL 9 counts — there was a discrepancy in the documents.
I’ll let it be known: it’s definitely time for A$AP Ant to receive his commercial success this year, just as Rocky and Ferg did years ago (even Twelvyy and Nast has had notable success as well; the embattled Bari was the hottest fashion designer out before his legal issues as well). Now, it may be time for Ant to head off on his own, as he’s tweeted recently:
Went solo .

Either way, Any is . aking a lot of ground with his Marino Infantry movement, as we’re excited to see what he and his collective (shout out LuLu P) have in store for 2019.

This Friday, D.C.’s own Shy Glizzy will deliver his new project Fully Loaded. Below, we now get to see who’s going to be on the release, and it’s no slouch: Rick Ross, Pressa, NBA YoungBoy, Smokepurpp, Q Da Fool, 3 Glizzy and more — we’ve already heard the hard-hitting “Do You Understand?” with Tory Lanez and Gunna.
Pre-order Fully Loaded here.

So, over the past weekend, producer Tone P took to Instagram to unload his frustrations about his now-presumably broken relationship with Wale. The message centered on disrespect and the mishandling of Tone’s beats (also, the importance of communication). You can see a few clips below:
Then, he stopped by WPGC to further explain what’s going on, adding in Wale’s long-awaited Go-Go record and whether or not he’s becoming a culture vulture for the city he represents (he also took shots at DJ Money). You can see that below, courtesy of Dennis “CEO Den-Den” Johnson…while he stated that Wale has responded to him, 1.) he’s not satisfied with the response and 2.) Wale hasn’t publicly spoken on it as far as we know. Ultimately, it just sucks to hear about conflict amongst stars in this area overall.
UPDATE: The bill has been withdrawn.
Still waiting on the results of this “act,” but our response is pretty simple. If you’re a colonizer (this is definitely an issue of race, but this goes out to anybody who has moved into any urban city from whatever hickory-smoked town you came from) who has set-up shop in a high-traffic area of Washington, D.C. — whether as a resident, or business owner, or both — and you’re now one of the people that’s supporting this bill because it’s too loud for you, congratulations: you might just be one of the dumbest, most culture-destroying idiots on this planet. F*** YOU AND — PLEASE — PROMPTLY MOVE THE F*** OUT OF D.C. TO SOMEWHERE THAT ACTUALLY WANTS YOU THERE.
From FOX 5 DC:
It’s being called the fight to preserve D.C. culture. On Monday, musicians and other street artists gathered at Gallery Place to protest an effort to quiet them.
At the center of the controversy is the Amplified Noise Amendment Act, which the D.C. Council will vote on Tuesday.
The current noise ordinance shuts off amplified music at 10 p.m. The new proposed ordinance would instead not allow any amplified music that can be heard past 100 feet away at any time of day.
Businesses said they are having trouble getting work done.
“I think the city loses its civility,” said D.C. resident Jeff Kemprecos. “When I’m walking by and I can’t have a conversation with my wife because I can’t hear her or I can’t hear my kids, I think that’s a problem.”
Street musicians see it as a direct shot at their way of life.
“There are many artists that hone their craft on the streets,” explained Katea Stitt, the interim program director with WPFW Radio. “They don’t attend a Juilliard or a Peabody. The streets are where we can see art. The streets are where they can hone their craft and if we take that away, everyone in the society loses.”
“There is a culture here and it’s necessary to preserve that culture,” added Dior Ashley Brown, an artist event host and co-producer. “It’s been out here for decades and I understand that we have new people who are moving in and are making the city evolve and grow. But we cannot forget the historical arts that exist and the creativity that continues to bloom.”
“I love Washington. I love the vibrant culture here,” countered Kemprecos. “But I think vibrant culture lives better when it recognizes its boundaries and we all share the common space.”
Under the new ordinance, if someone is asked to quiet down and they don’t, they could be fined up to $300 or spend up to 10 days in jail.
“So you’re going to criminalize this,” said Aaron Myers with Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation. “You’re going to say a person who was out here just trying to make a living … [They could be] approached by a police officer and then that could escalate to something horrible.”
Council members are set to take a vote Tuesday at 10 a.m. If passed, it would be a temporary measure effective for 90 days while the council decides on a permanent fix for noise complaints in the neighborhood.
One suggestion from protesters included soundproofing the surrounding buildings better. They aim to spread their message using the hashtag #SoundproofDC.

Ongoing. Congrats to the winning 9 who made this year’s list: Lil Pump, Ski Mask The Slump God, SmokePurpp, Wifisfuneral, Stefflon Don, Blocboy JB, YBN Nahmir, J.I.D and Trippie Redd. Crazy of many of these artists are currently being affected by XXXTentacion’s death.
SMOKEPURPP

Ski Mask The Slump God
Announced during Eric Bellinger’s Eazy Call tour. Sound interesting, given the chemistry these two artists have.

D.C. Bike Life Campaign submitted language for a proposed ballot initiative measure to D.C. Board of Elections in January. We are here to expand legal access to dirt bikes, ATVs and UTVs in Washington, D.C. District of Columbia government has been pretty fluid by offering licensing and registration of other non-traditional vehicles like the Polaris Slingshot, a high powered motorcycle, offering pilot programs to address mobility needs, like the dockless bikeshare pilot program and even expanding categories of other 2-wheeled motor propelled vehicles. In contrast, we see a lethal response to illegal riding of dirt bikes and ATVs. #BikeLife interactions with law enforcement can be lethal and represent a disproportionate response to the act of riding alone.
This year, 4 proposed ballot measures have come before the DCBOE. Two of these measures have been approved for circulation. The first two of the year were rejected. The Board of Elections set DCBLC’s subject matter hearing for 4/4/18. This hearing would be when they decided on allowing or blocking our path forward to signature collecting. On April 4th we testified at 1015 Half Street SE before ‘The Board’ to speak to their concerns as well as those of the Jeff Sessions for the District, Attorney General, Karl Racine. At the hearing, ‘The Board’ delayed the vote until an Executive Hearing could be held at a later date. This week, D.C. Board of Elections published their May 18th decision to approve our measure for petition circulation.
Based on the arguments presented at the April 4th hearing, the board found that our measure did not add a task that would require greater DC DMV funding, our measure was not vague and therefore did not violate the Fifth Amendment and that D.C. Metropolitan Police Department had no records as evidence to support the claim that D.C. relied on, or would lose revenues from the cancelling out of fines and arrests associated with illegal #BikeLife operation made legal. Unfortunately, instead of due process we faced delayed process. After our vote was delayed to a private Executive Hearing, DCBLC was not notified about the Board of Elections decision officially, as promised on the record.
Primary elections are on June 19th, the Board of Elections made their decision on May 18th. They have 20 days to draft the official language, then there is an additional period of 10 days where the language can be challenged. After this process they’ll schedule a hearing where we pick up the official petition to hit the streets. Our goal is to get on the ballot for this years general election on November 6, 2018.
During our delay, the #BikeLife community and our community as a whole suffered another tragedy. A D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer put their cruiser in front of Jeff Price on May 4, 2018. With the cruiser blocking the crosswalk, turned towards oncoming traffic, Jeff had nowhere to go. He and his dirt bike struck the cruiser, the passenger side window shattered and the passenger side airbags deployed in the Ford Explorer police cruiser. This would be the last event of Jeff Price’s 22 year old life.
Since the launch of D.C. #BikeLife Campaign, the month May has been the most violent in terms of interactions with D.C.’s police forces and citizens.
January 26, 2018 – DCBLC submits language to decriminalize illegal use of non-traditional vehicles, allow registration and limited use of dirt bikes, ATVs and UTVs on public roads
April 4, 2018 – The Board of Elections holds a hearing on the validity of DCBLC’s “D.C. Bike Life Access and Use of Non-Traditional Vehicles Act of 2018.” DCBLC testifies before the D.C. Board of Elections, debating concerns expressed by the Chairman, The Board as a whole, General Counsel and D.C.’s Attorney General, Karl Racine. The “accept”/”reject” vote is delayed to a private, Executive hearing (to be held at a later date).
In early May, MPD revised their policy on shooting at motor vehicles. The department moved from a policy; stating they can only shoot at a moving vehicle if there is deadly force directed at the officer. Now they can legally perceive a motor vehicle as a weapon and reckless operation as act of terror.
May 4, 2018 – Jeffery Price was killed in a fatal traffic encounter with MPD.
May 9, 2018 – On the day of Jeff Price’s vigil. An off duty MPD officer killed D’Quan Young at a gathering. Reportedly the off duty officer shot D’Quan, reloaded, shot D’Quan as he ran away and after he fell to the ground.
May 10, 2018 – MPD conducted a search of Jeffrey Price’s girlfriend’s home. During this search they killed the family dog.
May 11, 2018 – D.C.’s MPD conducted a warrantless search of Jeff Price’s mothers property and the surround yards.
May 19, 2018, on the same block where D’Quan Young was killed, an MPD officer brutally beat Samuel Cooper, punching and contorting his body, while placing him under arrest.
May 21, 2018 at Fort Totten, in physical struggle, Metro Transit Police exposed a woman while placing her under arrest for fare evasion. Metro Transit Police had her face down on the ground with a knee and a taser in her back.
D.C. Bike Life Campaign wasn’t founded as anti- anything. Instead, we are pro-culture. D.C. residents have been legislated into limited, costly options like travelling via WMATA, car-share, traditional cab or car ownership. Meanwhile, 80% of our new residents do not own automobiles. Those of us who cannot or decide not to participate in automotive or public transit face travel options with either high entry costs or heavy sweat output like bike sharing through all 8 wards of D.C. DCBLC represents independence, freedom of choice and homage to culture. By decriminalizing riding vehicles that are currently outlawed and allowing registration of non-traditional vehicles we pay respect to D.C. culture.
To raise funds and awareness DCBLC will be:
-Competing in the Gran Fondo National Championship Cycling races (courtesy of a bike donation by Velocity Co-op):
June 3 – Highlands @ Butler, NJ
July 22 – Asheville, NC
August 4 & 5 – Boone, NC
September 23 – Frederick, MD
-Sponsoring block parties around the city, hosted in solidarity by #BikeLife advocates and supporters.
-Coordinating a #BikeLife festival experience to bring the culture together during our push.
-Meeting regularly to address community needs and reach out to other groups to organize.
We need you to link up with the campaign. In approximately 3-5 weeks D.C. Board of Election will finally be presenting DCBLC with petitions that we can circulate for you to sign. The sooner we get the approx. 25,000 signatures needed, the sooner we secure the opportunity for D.C. voters to switch gears on #BikeLife in D.C.
Sincerely,
Eric Butler, Jr

As revealed last week, Washingtonian magazine found themselves in some controversy following an ill-fated campaign apparently meant to represent D.C. residents and how proud they are of their city — unfortunately, they failed to show proper representation of a city that still boasts a huge Black population (just under 50%).
This past Sunday, D.C.’s true natives and Chocolate City’s own showed up for a different photoshoot, led by community leader Tony Lewis, Jr. and Angel Anderson of Spice Suite — it was a very powerful reminder that, despite many of D.C.’s residents being pushed out during the ongoing gentrification process, we still exist and demand the respect and acknowledgement that we deserve. Simply put, it was an absolutely beautiful sight to see.
Check out some social media snaps below of what went down.

From Billboard, where you can read more on the story:
Wale has signed with Warner Bros. Records. Maybach Music Group’s Grammy-nominated rapper is releasing new track “Black Bonnie” featuring Jacquees and will unveil his sixth studio album later this year.
Wale and Warner Bros. Records celebrated their new alliance at the Crustacean restaurant in Beverly Hills, Calif. last evening (May 15). Joining Wale and Warner Bros. co-chairman/COO Tom Corson were Warner Music Group CEO Stephen Cooper, MMG founder Rick Ross, Spotify’s head of urban Carl Chery and several other Warner Bros. executives including Chris Atlas, senior VP/head of urban marketing, and PJ Bloom, senior VP of film & television music and soundtracks.
In a statement announcing the signing, Corson said, “I am delighted that Wale has joined Warner Bros. Records. He is a pillar in the hip-hop community and beyond; with his cultural relevance and lyrical prose, he continues to elevate the game. Wale is truly a force to be reckoned with and we look forward to a successful partnership for years to come.”
Added Wale, “This is an exciting step for me. I am thrilled to be at a company that is willing to showcase my artistry, while supporting my entrepreneurial spirit. I felt their passion, commitment and enthusiasm from day one. They believed in my vision wholeheartedly, and I am ready to show and prove.”
Q Da Fool is the next rising star from D.C. (or, Maryland, in his case…counts to us) to score a big record deal — in his case, he’s joined forces with Roc Nation. You can read all about that here.
Above, he delivers a new visual for “Not Playin,” taken from his forthcoming project with Zaytoven titled 100 Keys. Shout out to FoolWithTheCamera, who did the video.
UPDATE: The Washingtonian’s CEO & President has responded with an apology. Thoughts?
The above post from the Washingtonian Magazine may or may not be deleted, but the message remains.
Recently, the magazine launched a campaign for their “I’m Not A Tourist, I Live Here” T-shirt, which presumably centers on “real” Washington, D.C. residents and their love for their city. The problem is, their campaign seems to be completely devoid of African-Americans, a major red flag since:
The main post with the glaring error has been removed, but the response has already been heavy — you can see a few responses below. One of those who’s pushing back — the honorable Tony Lewis, Jr. — has teamed up with Spice Suite to create a photoshoot for all true D.C. residents. That information can be found here.
@Washingtonian released a post on their Instagram with a series of bloggers and photos wearing shirts that say “I am not a tourist” featuring stories of residents of Washington DC. NOT ONE OF THESE FACES ARE BLACK! https://t.co/XRalY8fO57 pic.twitter.com/gFXG5fdGSp

She did get some positive feedback from another stroller company, though (sort of). From TMZ:
Blac Chyna pushed a stroller company too far, and now she’s lost a deal that could have landed her a big payday … TMZ has learned.
Sources involved in the deal with the stroller co., Momiie, tell us … it’s pulled the plug on its collab with Chyna in wake of her stroller-swinging skirmish Sunday at Six Flags.
We’re told the incident was not the sole reason for Momiie’s decision. Honchos had already grown uneasy with Chyna’s behavioral issues — not to mention a leaked sex tape — and the impact it might have on their brand. The fight video was definitely the final nail in the coffin.
A rep for Momiie adds Chyna’s latest actions made it impossible to move forward with their business relationship, telling us … “[We] cannot excuse that sort of reaction and behavior particularly in a family resort around children.”
We broke the story … BC signed up to be a brand ambassador for the new baby strollers, with the goal of launching her own line with Momiie if all went well. It didn’t.
Instead, Chyna might be in store for a legal war with Rob Kardashian, who’s livid she put 1-year-old Dream in harm’s way … though Chyna claims she was actually defending their daughter.
As seen on Blavity:
Folks are side-eyeing two Fox 5 D.C. news anchors after calling the Houston teen who received a full ride to all 20 colleges he applied to obnoxious.
When news of 17-year-old Micheal Brown’s academic achievements went viral, the senior at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston dominated national headlines. The excited teen could be seen reading an acceptance letter to Stanford in a video that recently went viral.
Schools like Harvard University, Princeton University, Northwestern University, Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University, Georgetown University and Vanderbilt University were some of his top choices. However, he has yet to make a decision. The young man attributes his success to his mother’s hard work as well as his dedication to community and after-school programs that gave him opportunities to succeed.
He was accepted into some of the best colleges in the country and received full scholarships to them, but some think he may have taken the spotlight from other students with the news anchors taking jabs at the young man for overachieving.
Really hoping that this is proven to be nonfactual. From TMZ:
Fabolous flew into such a rage at Emily B, the mother of his 2 kids, that he punched her 7 times and also threatened to shoot her, as well as her family members … according to law enforcement sources.
TMZ broke the story … Fabolous surrendered to police Wednesday night and was booked for aggravated assault and terroristic threats. Emily told police things have been heated with the rapper since early March, when they had an argument in L.A.
She claimed he later sent her a text saying he wanted to hit her in the head with a baseball bat, and would kill her … but he “did not want to go out like that.” Emily claims instead … Fabolous repeatedly punched her in the face, and knocked out her 2 front teeth.
Emily says she feared for her life, and remembered Fabolous has 2 handguns in their home in Englewood, NJ — so, she called her father to remove them before Fab got home. She told cops … Fabolous was infuriated when he arrived at the house to find her father and brother there, and went to look for his guns.
She claims he stormed out of the house, and told her and family “he had a bullet for them.”
NorthJersey.com first reported Emily’s allegations.

So, some good and bad news in Logic’s world: first, congrats to the Maryland emcee for scoring a number one release with Bobby Tarantino II, his second since the well-received Everybody. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out that project here.
Unfortunately, he also confirmed that his relationship with Jessica Andrea…apparently, it just didn’t work out (a common problem amongst celebrities and the rich, it seems):
From People, where you can read the full story:
NFL star Robert Griffin III is officially off the market – again!
The 28-year-old quarterback married Grete Šadeiko, 24, in an extravagant wedding in Miami, Florida, on Saturday among family and friends.
Griffin shared photos of their big day on Instagram, including one photo of the couple in a room created by hanging crystals with a perspex floor with white roses on top and purple lights within to match their wedding’s color scheme.
“First name Grete, Last name Griffin. All I ever wanted to be for you is your hero. It turns out that all along, you were mine,” RGIII – who wore a blue suit with a bow tie and silver Christian Louboutins – wrote in the caption.”
Something that needs to be spotlighted before hometown hero Kevin Durant returns to the area as part of the Golden State Warriors: it’s been reported that the NBA star is donating a whopping $10 million to P.G. County to help disadvantaged kids. It’s all in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools and after school program College Track, which — as you’d guess from the title — helps kids move into the higher learning phase via a 10-year program involving tutoring, resources and more.
It’s been four years since we lost D.C. mayor and icon Marion Barry, who passed on at 78. Now, the city will finally honor him with his own statue — a $300,000, 8 ft. tall structure that will sit outside the John A. Wilson Building. This is all thanks to the Executive Office of the Mayor, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Marion Barry Commission. Maryland artist Steven Weitzman is the statue’s creator.
The statue will officially be unveiled on Saturday, March 3rd at 11:30am….Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson will be manning the commemoration.
Now, what will the statue look like? Check out some teaser pics from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities below (click to enlarge):
From TMZ:
NBA YoungBoy allegedly got caught on camera body slamming his girlfriend mere hours before he was arrested in Florida this weekend … and the footage is brutal.
TMZ has obtained surveillance footage of what we’re told shows YoungBoy throwing his gf, Jania, down on the floor of a hotel hallway in Waycross, Georgia Saturday.
Sources at the hotel tell us this happened a few hours before the rapper was arrested in Tallahassee on an outstanding felony warrant for kidnapping and other alleged crimes.
We’re told a hotel guest heard the commotion and called the front desk to alert them, and then the front desk called cops. Sources say YoungBoy and Jania had fled by the time police arrived … but the footage and evidence found in their room was enough to issue a warrant.
We’re told on top of the disturbing video … cops found blood in their room. TMZ broke the story … YoungBoy got busted later that night after law enforcement came into contact with his tour bus.
As for Jania … she’s taken to social media to deny the encounter was anything but playful roughhousing between the couple. We’ve reached out to YoungBoy’s camp … so far, no word back.
