R.I.P. Mike Gaddis

These types of posts are getting to be too much. From NBC Washington, where you can read more on the story:

The man who was shot in the head on Monday afternoon in front of Washington D.C.’s Coolidge High School died late Monday night in the hospital, police confirmed.

The man, identified by police Tuesday afternoon as 36-year-old Michael Gaddis, worked with D.C.’s Safe Passage Safe Blocks initiative.

The man was not on duty when he was shot, police said Monday afternoon. His identity will be revealed once relatives are notified of his death, police said.

The Safe Passage program was created by the District in 2017 “based on concerns around student safety,” to help ensure students are safe as they travel to and from school. The program expanded in 2022 to cover more areas of the city.

Coolidge High School, which the man was shot in front of on Monday, is listed as one of schools within the program’s priority areas.

Police added that the man was shot after some kind of dispute.

The nature of that dispute, and the person the Safe Passage worker was arguing with, is still unknown. Police say the mystery shooter drove off.

D.C. Employee Who Reportedly Shot & Killed Karon Blake Charged With Second Degree Murder

From NBC Washington, where you can read the full story:

The D.C. government employee who shot and killed 13-year-old Karon Blake turned himself in Tuesday to face a second-degree murder charge, D.C. police chief Robert Contee said.

Blake yelled “I’m sorry,” “I am a kid” and “I am only 12” numerous times as the suspect fired in his direction, according to court documents that described surveillance video. Contee said video was integral to the investigation.

Jason Lewis, 41, is charged with second-degree murder while armed for shooting Blake on Quincy Street NE in the Brookland neighborhood about 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, court documents say.

Lewis heard noises and saw someone who appeared to be “tampering with a vehicle.” The resident stepped outside armed with a legally registered gun, and after an interaction with the teen, opened fire, according to police. Neighbors said they heard four to five gunshots during the incident.

Police said the man performed CPR on Blake after shooting him. Blake died a short time later at a hospital.

R.I.P. 5th Ward Butta

It’s been revealed that we’ve lost another D.C. talent in the game with 5th Ward Butta — the news was confirmed by his wife. In tribute, we’d like to reflect on previous drops while introducing his music to those not familiar. If anything, this all proves just how versatile he was when it came to hip hop. RIP.

D.C. Pays Tribute To Black Indian (RIP)

While there aren’t any specific details that have been made public, it can be confirmed that the city has lost one of his earliest pioneers with Black Indian, one of the first to lock in a major deal — much in part thanks to the song “Get Em Siced” (It was also called “Get Em Psyched” on the larger platforms). RIP to Black Indian and condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones… you can see tribute from others below.

Gervonta Davis Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

From ESPN:

Gervonta Davis allegedly struck a woman on the right side of her head with a “closed hand type slap,” leading to his arrest Tuesday afternoon in Florida, according to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

According to the incident report, the woman, who doesn’t live with Davis and whose name was redacted, suffered a small abrasion to the inside of her upper lip on the right side of her mouth.

The 135-pound boxer was arrested at 2:50 p.m. ET Tuesday in Parkland, Florida, and jailed on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge of battery causing bodily harm, according to Broward County Sheriff’s Office records. He was released Wednesday afternoon following a court hearing where bail was set at $1,000, according to the Broward Sherriff’s Office.

On the audio of the 911 call, which was obtained by ESPN, the woman was heard saying, “Please help me; I need help, please. I’m trying to go home, I have a baby in the car and attacked me … He’s going to kill me.”

Moments later, the call ended. She reconnected with police 50 seconds afterward, crying, and said, “I need to go. I’m in danger right now.”

Police were then contacted by a representative from the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Center, who said the woman pressed the emergency button in her car and said a guy was “speeding at her.”

Davis was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the alleged incident, according to the report.

Later Wednesday, Davis denied the allegations in a since-deleted social media post.

Taliban Glizzy Reportedly Arrested By Secret Service On Gun Charges

Dawg, what?! From AllHipHop, where you can find additional details:

Shy Glizzy affiliate Taliban Glizzy is facing some serious charges. According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, the Washington D.C. native was arrested for unlawful possession of at least two firearms on December 12. Officers uncovered more than $17,000, diamond earrings and an Oyster Perpetual Rolex watch during a search of his vehicle. Prosecutors are convinced Taliban Glizzy, a convicted felon, is a danger to the community and are asking the court to detain him until trial.

Taliban Glizzy has been under surveillance for over a year. In May 2021, he posted an Instagram photo of himself at Locked & Loaded Miami, a shooting range specializing in machine gun rentals. In July 2022, Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of firearms left behind in a Lyft.

Officers recovered a pistol laying openly on the floor and an AR-15-style firearm partially concealed inside a duffle bag, which were later connected to the rapper. Another bag found at the scene contained a second AR-15 with 29 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition in the 45-round capacity magazine. It was reported stolen out of Arlington County. Behind that bag was a “ghost gun,” a black 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol with an obliterated serial number on the Glock receiver and no serial number on the slide. An additional handgun—a Ruger-57 5.7x28mm semi-automatic—was recovered in the pocket mounted on the rear of the front passenger seat.

YGG Tay Among Group Indicted For Murder Conspiracy

From The Baltimore Sun, where you can read more on this wild a** story:

Baltimore rapper YGG Tay, who is already in federal prison, and a prominent “hitman” were part of an alleged subset of the Black Guerilla Family gang that is accused of carrying out six homicides and about a dozen other shootings, a recently unsealed federal indictment shows.

Federal prosecutors say YGG Tay, whose name is Davante Harrison, paid other members of the gang to kill people on multiple occasions. A U.S. District judge sentenced Harrison to 15 years in federal prison in July after a jury found him guilty of drug and gun charges.

In a recently unsealed indictment, prosecutors said Harrison rapped about hiring a hitman, David Warren, who is charged in the same indictment, and said he was open to paying others to kill.

Rapper Who Posed During Capitol Riot Hit With 5 Months In Prison

From WUSA9, where you read more on the story:

A federal judge sentenced a former Virginia rapper who used an image of himself at the Capitol riot on an album cover to five months in prison on Monday.

Antionne Brodnax, who performs under the name “Bugzie the Don,” pleaded guilty in October 2021 to four misdemeanor counts after rejecting a plea deal for a single count. Brodnax, who moved to Georgia following his arrest, entered the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6 and used a photograph of himself smoking on a vehicle outside as the cover of an album titled “The Capital.”

Prosecutors argued he should spend 21 months in prison, saying the lengthy sentence was warranted for a misdemeanor case because of Brodnax’s significant criminal history. That includes prior felony convictions in Virginia and Maryland for manufacturing a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Justice Department also said Brodnax deserved a sentencing enhancement for deleting evidence from his phone after promising he would send photographs and videos of the riot to the FBI. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman agreed, ruling Brodnax had willfully obstructed the administration of justice.

Brodnax’s attorney, Mary Maguire, argued for a probationary sentence with a period of home detention, if necessary. In court filings, she described Brodnax as an entrepreneur – he has a small clothing line and music label – and a “great community asset.”

Gunna Released From Prison After Taking Guilty Plea

From WSB-TV:

Atlanta rapper Gunna has been released from jail after he pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge in a sweeping gang indictment against him, rapper Young Thug and several other alleged members of the Young Slime Life criminal street gang.

The rapper entered a negotiated plea, known as an Alford plea, in which a defendant doesn’t admit he committed the crime, but acknowledges that it is in his best interest to plead guilty. The charge Gunna faced was one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Act.

Gunna was sentenced to five years with one served in prison. The one-year sentence was commuted to time served. The four-year remaining balance on his sentence has been suspended and will be subject to special conditions including 500 hours of community service.

After the sentence came down, the rapper released a statement, saying:

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”

Despite saying that he will not testify, it is a condition of Gunna’s trial that he testifies if he is called, though he can claim the Fifth Amendment.

Takeoff Murder Suspect Arrested, Held On $2 Million Bond

From 6ABC, where you can read the full story:

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Migos rapper Takeoff, Houston police said Friday. He was ordered held on $2 million bond during his first court appearance.

Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was arrested Thursday evening in Houston and “charged with the murder of Takeoff,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said during a press briefing.

Takeoff, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot and killed in downtown Houston around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 1, police said. He was 28.

Clark’s bond was set at $2 million during a court appearance late Friday night after the judge determined he posed a flight risk. If he is able to post bond, he will be held under 24-hour house arrest, the judge said.

In requesting the $2 million bond, prosecutors argued that Clark posed a high flight risk because he had purchased tickets to Mexico two days before his arrest and applied for an expedited passport.

The defense argued that Clark, who is currently enrolled in college, posed a low risk to the community and said this was his first criminal arrest.

A representative for McConaughey declined to comment.

According to the insider, Bezos is considering making the purchase “possibly in partnership” with Jay-Z. The rapper previously owned a stake in the Brooklyn Nets.

U.S. Attorney Opens Investigation Into Washington Commanders

From ESPN, where you can read the full story:

The U.S. attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia has opened a criminal investigation into allegations that the Washington Commanders engaged in financial improprieties, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The sources said that prosecutors are focused on several areas and that the inquiry was triggered by a letter the House Committee on Oversight and Reform sent to the Federal Trade Commission and several attorneys general in April that alleged deceptive business practices. Attorneys general in Virginia and Washington, D.C., also are investigating allegations of financial impropriety.

Team spokesperson Jean Medina did not immediately comment but provided a statement from attorney John Brownlee of Holland & Knight, who represents the Commanders.

“It is not surprising that ESPN is publishing more falsehoods based solely on anonymous sources — given today’s announcement,” the statement said. “…We are confident that, after these agencies have had a chance to review the documents and complete their work, they will come to the same conclusion as the team’s internal review — that these allegations are simply untrue.”

Asked Wednesday whether the league is aware of the federal criminal investigation, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said: “We will decline comment.”

Dan Snyder Hires Bank Of America For Possible Sale Of Commanders

What? Is it really happening? From CNBC, where you can read more on the story:

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has hired Bank of America to explore “potential transactions,” the team said Wednesday.

The NFL team hired the bank to help facilitate a potential sale, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Snyder isn’t being forced to sell the team despite mounting pressure to potentially remove him as an NFL owner, the person said. Snyder and the Commanders are currently being investigated by both the House Oversight Committee and the NFL for sexual harassment and financial misconduct. The NFL’s probe is being led by former Securities and Exchange Chair Mary Jo White.

A teenage boy and a woman are in custody in the slaying of rapper PnB Rock, who was gunned down two weeks ago at Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles in South L.A., Los Angles police confirmed to The Times on Wednesday. Authorities are searching for a third suspect, identified as the boy’s father, whom they describe as armed and dangerous.

LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz said a federal task force arrested two people Tuesday in Rock’s slaying.
