George Zimmerman Wants To Fight Kanye West

0203-kanye-zimmerman-getty-3

According to TMZ, George Zimmerman wants to get in the ring with Kanye West because of his history of attacking defenseless people such as the paparazzi and the 18-year-old kid who called his fiancée a “nigger lover”. I think this is a bad idea for George Zimmerman, because it doesn’t matter who he gets in the ring with; it will not end very well for him unless he has a gun to defend himself.

Lyor Cohen Is Partnering With Twitter Through His Google-Backed Record Label

lyor

Spotted on Billboard:

Lyor Cohen used his keynote speech at Midem in Cannes, France, to announce that his new label venture, 300, has partnered with Twitter to develop A&R tools that will benefit the whole music business.

Speaking to a packed room at Cannes’ Palais des Festivals centre, the former Warner Music Group chief revealed that he closed the deal on Saturday (Feb. 1), and that the partnership would focus on the creation of “A&R tools to find artists early and help develop them.”

“In the modern A&R business we are all looking for talent in various places, and certainly Twitter is a terrific place to look at talent,” Cohen said. “If you want to get signed, you have to engage with Twitter, and of course YouTube, and we’ll be looking to try and develop tools that the rest of the music community can utilize.”

Interviewed by Tommy Boy CEO and New Music Seminar executive director Tom Silverman, Cohen’s engrossing and, at times, highly entertaining keynote, marked the first time that the veteran exec has publicly discussed 300 — the Google-backed independent music company he co-founded with long-term music partners Todd Moscowitz and Kevin Liles.

“The mission statement is to create a lasting reputation for high quality and artist development,” Cohen told the audience, which included a front-row seat for longtime U2 manager and Billboard’s 2014 Industry Icon honoree Paul McGuinness.

“It’s a creative hub that goes beyond the creation of music and songs. It’s a place where artists, managers, agents can access experience and tools so they could be highly participating in the artist development process,” he continued.

The company’s mission statement took six weeks to finalize, Cohen said, and retained an important role to “define concisely what we want to wake up and do every day.”

Asked by Silverman why he felt that now was the right time to launch an independent music company, Cohen responded, “I think this is an amazing opportunity for entrepreneurs to be independent, especially in the music business. I see macro business models that are not on some chalk board, but that actually are reality. I certainly believe in streaming as being the future of a very healthy business and I want to be a part of that.”

Cohen continued, “We definitely are going to see a few bumps. But as subscription grows and it gets to a mass scale I think it will be a lovely business.”

As for what still fuels him in his forth decade in the music industry, Cohen said he has had the same singular thought for the last 32 years: “Maybe today will be the day that I bump into an artist that will change my life and possibly change formats and pop culture. That’s my drug,” he said.

Benga Ends “DJing Career”

According to Mixmag, Dubstep pioneer and famous Bass producer Benga took to Facebook to announce the end of his DJ days.   Noticeably he said nothing about making more music in the future, but it looks like he won’t be playing live anytime soon.  What does this mean for his BBC show with Skream?  Check out the screencap from his Facebook below;

Tyrese Is Having Baby Mama Drama….And Somehow, Paul Walker’s Name Gets Dragged Into It

0131-tyrese-gibson-norma-2

From TMZ:

Tyrese Gibson claims his baby mama is using Paul Walker’s death to shame him in their child custody war … TMZ has learned.

Norma Gibson filed court docs claiming Tyrese is a bad dad, who should have stayed in L.A. to spend time with their 6-year-old daughter after Paul Walker’s death … because he had time on his hands since “Fast & Furious 7” was put on hold.

Norma says Tyrese blew off his little girl, choosing instead to go “gallivanting throughout Dubai … staying in expensive hotels … partying on yachts, sky-diving with other movie stars, driving expensive cars, and making special appearances in night clubs.”

But sources close to Tyrese say he’s indignant Norma is using Paul … and he went to Dubai on business. He had 4 gigs and he needed the money — ironically to pay the child support Norma was demanding.

The court battle rages on later this month … when they each try and convince a court-appointed child evaluator who’s good and who’s evil.

DMX: I’ll Piss On George Zimmerman’s Face

zimmermn

DMX took The Game’s response and then turned all the way up….for the record, Zimmerman has apparently denied Game’s request for a boxing match and is in fact up for a bout with the Yonkers emcee. From TMZ:

DMX says he’ll be jailed if promoters allow him to step in a boxing ring with George Zimmerman … because he’d break every boxing rule in the book — then piss on his face.

The 43-year old rapper tells TMZ … he’s throwing his name out as a potential opponent for George’s upcoming celebrity boxing gig — just like The Game — and says he wants to do it for “every black person who has been done wrong in the system.”

DMX adds, “I am going to beat the living f**k out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up.”

DMX says, “Once I am done with him, I am going to whip my d**k out and piss on him … right in his muthaf**kin face.”

He adds, “Zimmerman is a piece of s**t and that’s what he needs to drink.”

There Is A Seinfeld Reunion In The Works

We here at JUKEBOX:DOPECONTENT admittedly hope that Wale will be making an appearance in this reunion, somehow (or, the secret project that Seinfeld is referring to could in fact be Wale’s Album About Nothing…a bit of a reach, but still). From NY Daily News:

The best sitcom about, well, nothing, is set to reappear on the small screen “very, very soon.”

“Seinfeld” fans can rejoice as the rumors that recently surfaced about a possible reunion are true. However, there’s no telling in what capacity it will take place.

“It’s a secret project,” Jerry Seinfeld said during an interview on the “Boomer & Carton” radio show Thursday.

Speculations sprang up after Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, who played George Castanza, and the show’s creator, Larry David, were spotted at Tom’s Restaurant in New York City. The diner was the setting for the coffee shop that the cast frequented on the hit series.

While Seinfeld admitted that a project had either taken place or was in progress, the 59-year-old comedian didn’t detail much else except that it was most certainly not a Super Bowl commercial.

The radio hosts proceeded to play a sort of “21 Questions” game in order to divulge more information.

What they gathered from Seinfeld was that the “secret project,” which would be seen “very, very soon,” involved other characters from the original sitcom including, of course, Alexander playing the part of George.

“Of course he remembers playing that character for 9 years,” Seinfeld responded when asked if Alexander was surprised to receive a call about the new project.

The “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” star also indicated that while David was involved with the project, which is longer than 60 seconds and was filmed in other locations outside the coffee shop, he is not on camera.

So while the excitement among “Seinfeld” fans increases, they shouldn’t be too quick to celebrate, as this is a “one and done” type of deal, according to the actor.

In order to get away from the reunion “interrogation,” Seinfeld asked the hosts of the sports radio show, “So what about football?”

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Reveal Album Release Date; Upcoming Shows

gibbs

March 18th is the date. Press release and upcoming tour dates below.

Freddie Gibbs is the product of violent, drug-laden streets, but unlike most rappers with similar resumes, he brings the block to the booth without inhibition or an exaggerated rap persona. Piñata, a 17-track collaboration with producer Madlib, is the best distillation yet of his transparent approach to making music, combining stark honesty with electrifying talent as a lyricist and performer.

Piñata is “a gangster Blaxploitation film on wax,” Gibbs says, and the full-length result of a process that began in 2009. It’s an album with a sound that couldn’t be any further from the radio, where, according to the Gibbs, every rapper is Superman, or the dope dealer of the century, who has grinded to the top, never made a mistake and has no chinks in his armor.

“I will show you my flaws, I’ll show you what I’ve done wrong and what I’ve fucked up at,” says the native of Gary, Indiana, the former steel town best known for producing Michael Jackson. “I don’t regret shit, but I’ll show you the things I’m not proud of.”

Gibbs is joined on Piñata by Mac Miller, Earl Sweatshirt, Raekwon, Scarface, Domo Genesis, Ab-Soul and a host of others in setting his soliloquies of the streets alongside film snippets and dusted funk, soul and prog musical tapestries. While this is the latest in a series of single-artist collaborations for Madlib, after Jaylib (J Dilla), Madvillainy (MF Doom) and the street-centric O.J. Simpson with Detroit’s Guilty Simpson, the pairing is unique as it is the first time for Gibbs working with just one producer.

There’s also Madlib’s own self-awareness of his style as a producer. “My stuff, it ain’t fully quantized…it has more of a human feel, so it might slow down or speed up,” he says. “So you have to be the type of rapper, like Doom or Freddie, who can catch that, or else you’ll be sounding crazy.”

Gibbs admits it was a challenge rapping over beats with chops and changes as unpredictable as the man who created them, but says-with conviction and supreme confidence-“I think I did it to perfection.”

The perfection is apparent on the album, where Gibbs shifts from textbook lessons in robbing and drugging on tracks like “Scarface” and “Knicks,” to perhaps the album’s most personal song, “Broken,” a collaboration with Scarface, who, along with Tupac, DMX and 50 Cent, make up the rapper’s own Mount Rushmore of MCs (“You’re getting a hurricane of all those motherfuckers hitting you at once when you listen to Freddie Gibbs,” he says). “Deeper,” a Gibbs favorite and the third single from the album after “Thuggin'” (2012) and “Shame,” (2013) is an ode to hip-hop in the mold of Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R.”; “High,” featuring Danny Brown, is self-explanatory and just what you would expect from Gibbs, Madlib and one of Detroit’s finest; while on “Real,” Gibbs addresses an old score just as Michael Corleone settled all family business on baptism day.

It’s tracks like “Real” that makes fans believe Gibbs’ claim that “I’m about to show niggas how to rap again.” And he’s just as loyal. “As long as I keep satisfying them,” he says, “everybody else is going to fall in line.

As a producer, Madlib, quite simply, is music, and ten years into his career-a time when other artists become comfortable-Gibbs remains restless, focused, with an eye on the competition and their position relative to his ascent. This is because mentally, he’s still on the corner hustling, which would be the downfall of the average rapper. Gibbs, however, isn’t average.

“When it comes to the nuts and bolts, the nitty gritty of this shit, flat-out spitting verse for verse,” he says. “Niggas ain’t on my level.”

DEA Nabs $8M Worth Of Heroin From Bronx Stash House (Pics)

HipHopWired reports:

Frank Lucas may have called it “Blue Magic” back in the day but the DEA are saying their suspects, 35-year-old Augustin Rivera and 25-year-old Cristino Then were holding on to $8 million of heroin labeled “NFL,” “iPhone,” “Olympics 2012,” “McDonald’s” and “Lady Gaga.”

Reports Gothamist:

Investigators found 13 kilograms of heroin in the Williamsbridge apartment, located on Wallace Ave near Arnow Ave. According to authorities, the apartment had been under surveillance for suspected heroin distribution for some time, and they made the bust after a suspect brought two bags and a green box into the building.

In addition to the drugs, they also found scales, 18 coffee grinders, baking soda, face masks and a wide array of dime bags bearing the aforemetioned corporate and pop cultural stamps; there was also a batch dubbed “GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN,” which likely pairs well with the “Obama Care” heroin that popped up in Massachusetts last month.

Manufacturing heroin does not preclude you from being on top of current events.

Suspects Augustin Rivera, 36, and Cristino Then, 25, were arrested and are expected to be arraigned on drug charges this afternoon.

The name brand smack struggle recently reared its head in Pittsburg where a female McDonald’s employee was allegedly caught red-handed serving dope out of the drive-thru window.

Azealia Banks: I’m The Best Female Rapper In The World

To everyone reading this: do you see how Kanye West is now? I mean, as far as his confidence, saying he’s the next Walt Disney, Michelangelo, etc (example)….even as far as, say, post-Late Registration to pre-Graduation (I think he really begin talking reckless after his first release became a success, really). Let’s even include the many rants for hell’s sake.

Now, imagine what would happen if he was talking like that before he even dropped his debut album. Got it? I believe that Azealia Banks is the incarnation of that.
