Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Macklemore’s GRAMMY Text

km

We’ve posted the Billboard cover and feature with Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q, but this probably deserves a post of it’s own:

Folks were probably wondering what Kendrick truly thought about Macklemore’s text message following his complete shutout of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, and now we know:

That text surprised me, but Macklemore is a genuine dude. However it panned out, I wish him much success. He touched people’s souls, and no one can take that away. Really, the whole Grammy moment was incredible. Not everyone gets that shot.

As we touched on before, we also got a good idea of TDE’s upcoming 2014 releases, and it looks like we’ll be getting a new album from the Compton emcee this Fall, as well as a possible Black Hippy album (!):

In 2014, TDE hopes to lock and load its most ambitious slate of releases: Rashad and the label’s first nonrap signing, New Jersey-based female singer-songwriter SZA, will be coming with albums, as will original team members Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. Meanwhile, Free thinks the long-awaited debut from Black Hippy – the supergroup featuring Lamar, Q, Rock and Ab-Soul – is likely to appear in 2014; Tiffith indicates that TDE is planning to release a new Lamar album this coming September, too.

This is a great year for music.

The latest issue of Billboard features 1/2 of Black Hippy (aka TDE’s currently successful artists)….you can check out more here (good to read that we should be expecting a Kendrick Lamar album this year, hopefully the same can be said for Black Hippy). Below is the behind the scenes clip from the shoot; if you don’t know, ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron is out now.

Kendrick Lamar Might Have A ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d City’ Movie In The Works…

kendrick-microphone

All of this is hearsay and (probable) speculation, but it would really be dope if that album were to come to life on the big (or small) screen. From AllHipHop’s Rumors page:

Aw shoot. It looks like Kendrick is going to take his stock through the roof really soon. I’m hearing Kendrick is going to be working on a “good.kid.maad.city” movie with Spike Lee. They reportedly had a meeting over the All Star Weekend with Top Dawg, who is the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment (T.D.E.) The movie will reportedly chronicle the life of Top Dawg, who was the subject matter for that great album. Last year, there was a rumor that Shia LaBeouf was doing this, but I think it was just because he was fawning over Kendrick last year.

PICS: More NBA All Star Game Celebrity Sightings; Kevin Hart Clowns Drake’s Boots

Above are some loose pics of other celebrities who attended this year’s NBA All Star game, which included 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, The Game, Diddy (with his sons) and more…..but that’s not the only thing spotted on the court.

Fellow attendee Drake let Kevin Hart get too close to him during the game, because the comedian noticed something hilarious that he decided to share with the world via his Instagram (below):

Holy Shit I just caught @champagnepapi AKA Drizzy Drizzy Drizzy at the allstar game sitting CourtSide with the Tim’s with no leather at the top AKA the “Bucket Nakeds” #ThisIsaMajorFail #ImAboutToLotionHisBoots #iThinkHeJustCameFromWorkingOnSomebodysHouse #SoYouThinkYouCanDance

Drake Calls Macklemore’s Grammy Apology Text ‘Wack As F***’

1727034079

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Drake told them how he felt about Macklemore sending Kendrick Lamar an apology text after winning three Grammys. Drake thought it was wack as f***:

I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music’. It felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?

To name just Kendrick? That shit made me feel funny. No, in that case, you robbed everybody. We all need text messages.

UPDATE: Exclusive New Kendrick Lamar Leak From His Upcoming Album?

UPDATE: Apparently this has been making its way around some forums…the track is supposed to be called “Assassinate Your Character (Follow Your Dreams)” with a full version dropping at the end of March.

I can honestly say I have no idea where this came from, but somebody on Reddit posted this “new” Kendrick track today, claiming that it will be from his upcoming 2014 album. Rumor is that Childish Gambino did the EDM-meets G-Funk beat…Is this really a new track? I don’t know.  But whatever it is, the snippet is worth listening to.

Kendrick Lamar Reveals Details On Upcoming Sophomore Album

umwuy_kendricklamar_805923

While in London for a show, Kendrick Lamar spoke with I-D, revealing some details of his sophomore album, which I hope we get it sometime this year. Read an excerpt below.

How have you been enjoying London?
I love it. Y’all weather’s a bit gloomy right now, I like gloomy weather, I work best and do most of my album under gloomy weather, so you’ll hear a lot of dark tracks in there.

Who will you collaborate with in the future?
I’m really tight on collaborations, I always say Erykah Badu, that’s it for now, that’s always in the back of my mind.

Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Macklemore & The Grammys

grammy-candids-2014-6

XXL caught up with Kendrick Lamar last night at Dom Kennedy’s concert, where he spoke on the Macklemore winning the Grammys.

On Macklemore: “It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

On Grammys: “I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

Arby’s Goes In On Pharrell’s Hat, & Other Big Brands Jump In; Pharrell Responds

UPDATE #2: Don’t worry, Beyonce, Madonna and Kendrick Lamar got some, too.

****************************************

UPDATE: Pharrell speaks more on the whole hat thing during a post-GRAMMY interview.

****************************************

In the midst of it all, Pharrell’s hat definitely endured a roast session on Twitter and Instagram…we added some of those jokes here. The winner of it all was Arby’s, who unexpected fired a pretty damn good shot when they referred to their own logo. Check out responses by Pepsi, Hyundai and more (Pharrell also responds).
