@Nas & Funky DL (@FunkyDLHipHop) – Jazzmatic (Mixtape)

jazzmatic-mixtape-1

Funky DL might have outdone himself with this one…

Just imagine if this happened and picture the setting…

It’s the late 1930’s and local jazz club is packed to the brim with people awaiting the rapper Nas and his jazz musicians (orchestrated by Funky DL) along with featured artists to come and play a 10-track set to forever be remembered. The lights are dim and the hall is filled with smoke, whilst the clinking sound of champagne flutes ambiently gesture in the atmosphere. Nas and Funky DL are having their picture taken outside the club in an array of spotlights glaring from their vehicles (see artwork). Then it happens… The two step inside the club and “JAZZMATIC” erupts … All you have to do now is… “press play”…

We’re sure you’ll agree that this is a phenomenal project and ask you to share this with as many hip-hip and good music fans as you can find.

MTV’s Hottest MC In The Game #4: Nas

Wow! Gotta say…..I don’t really agree with this one. What are your thoughts?

Not only did Nas drop potent stick-to-your-rib singles like “Daughters,” “The Don” and “Bye Baby,” he went to great lengths to craft memorable story-driven videos to match. ” ‘The Don’ was a great visual, ‘Daughters’ was a great visual, ‘Nasty’ was great and I think with this record coming off of Distant Relatives, nobody expected this,” pointed out MTV Programming VP Yomi Desalu while referencing the mixed reviews surrounding Nas’ Damien Marley collaboration album in 2010.

Nas Becomes 2013 Icon For Hennessy’s Wild Rabbit

Drink up, niggas!

Often called the poet laureate of hip-hop, Nas is universally regarded as one of the most potent lyricists in the history of rap music. Author of 8 platinum albums, he exemplifies the chase for the Wild Rabbit through his decades of brilliance and innovation as a recording artist, performer, activist, and screen actor. Hennessy is proud to join forces with Nas, a long-time connoisseur and fan, as our Wild Rabbit icon for 2013.

Nas Performs At Hennessy Super Bowl After Party; Announces Audition To Perform With Him

Nas shut down Hennessey’s Super Bowl after party at Republic in New Orleans. Plenty of footage to enjoy above.

In related news, artists looking to perform alongside Nas may not get their chance:

Choice FM, London’s number one urban station, today launches a search for the UK’s next big thing with Choice BreakthrU, for a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform at The O2 Arena to support international rapper Nas as a part of his UK tour in March.

Budding music artists from across the country have until the 14th of February to submit their audition videos to choicefm.com before the entries are whittled down to a shortlist of five by a Choice judging panel of station presenters and industry experts – with a final vetting by Nas himself. From 18th-22nd February, the final five will face a public vote from Choice listeners and the winner – who will be revealed during Choice Breakfast with Kojo & Jade on 25th February – will go on to hit the same stage as Nas.

The winner will be the first act to perform at The O2 Arena in London, followed by Philadelphia emcee Meek Mill and multi Grammy award-nominated rapper Nas on 19th March.

For more information on Choice BreakthrU or to win tickets to Nas’ London date, tune in to Choice FM on 96.9 and 107.1 FM or log on to choicefm.com.

Nas Speaks On Wanting To Work With Frank Ocean (Again)

Music News

From MTV:

God’s Son is so pumped about last year’s work that he’s ready to get back into the studio to record its follow-up, and if he has his way, he’ll time include Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Frank Ocean this time around.

“I would love to reconnect with Frank Ocean,” Nas told MTV News last week when he was in New York celebrating his brand-new partnership with Hennessy’s Wild Rabbit campaign.

The two tried to knock out a collaboration for Life Is Good, but after the song’s producer, Hit-Boy, lost the digital files, the song was gone. Ocean revealed to The New York Times that the track was titled “No Such Thing as White Jesus” last year. When we asked Nas about it a few weeks later, he wouldn’t confirm. “I’ve talked about a song with Frank Ocean about a year and a half before anybody worked with him, and since then, it’s been a heavily anticipated record, but I didn’t talk about which song, actually,” he said in July.

Nas Defends Quentin Tarantino Over Use Of The N-Word

Nas would be the perfect candidate to speak on such an issue. From MTV:

“I didn’t see what the big fuss was about,” he said matter-of-factly, pointing out that the term worked in the context of a Spaghetti Western revisiting the horrors of slavery, from a director known for his “language” and “goriness.” “It’s a movie, movies by [Tarantino], why should we be surprised if the movie is raw?”

@CNN Labels @Nas ‘Hip-Hop’s Finest MC’

nasthumb

How or why CNN (or, more specifically, CNN writer Eliott C. McLaughlin) decided to crown Nas the greatest MC of all time is beyond me, but it’s not like it’s not a good argument. It’s a really great read that you, the Hip-Hop fan, should check out on your own here, but below is an excerpt:

Let’s begin with a disclaimer: Nas doesn’t endorse the following sentence.

But he’s the greatest lyricist of all time.

Those words were carefully chosen: “lyricist” over “rapper” or “hip-hop artist;” “greatest” instead of “most successful;” “all time” rather than “today.”

Those distinctions are important. Still, Nas isn’t buying it.

“It’s wayyyyyy, way, way too early in our lives,” he said when asked where he fits among history’s best MCs. “It’s great to put a list together, but don’t take it too seriously because your list won’t matter 10 years from now or 15 years from now. It’ll be a different list.”

OK, no lists then; just a strong case for Nas being the best rhymesmith ever, the GOAT, numero uno, and a humble concession that this is but one man’s opinion and yours are enthusiastically welcomed below.

Rumors Surface That @Nas’ Son With @IAmKelis May Not Be His

From Bossip, so take it with a grain of salt….still some spicy hot news, though:

Kelis is keeping a secret. The father of her son is former football player Wale Ogunleye not Nasir Jones. After adult freaky tape allegations leaked featuring Kelis and a man other than her husband she decided to become pregnant to save her failing marriage. She though it would take a few months for her to conceive but she was pregnant within a month. She and Ogunleye were having an affair and things happened so quick she was uncertain of the child’s paternity. That’s why she refused to allow Nas into the delivery room and refuses to allow him to visit her son without her or the nanny. Her son has striking features he inherited from his biological father who is of Nigerian decent. She just recently purchased a foreclosure in Glendale California, and is desperately seeking a sponsor. She fears losing another property she has had two foreclosures and two evictions since her divorce. Ogunleye has since upgraded and is now dating Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child.

@Hit_Boy Recovers Thought-To-Be-Lost @Nas & @Frank_Ocean Recordings

Remember that highly-publicized song with Nas & Frank Ocean that Hit-Boy made? I honestly can’t but the track was called ‘No Such Thing As White Jesus’ and was thought to be lost forever to to the misplacing of hardware….well it appears what was lost is now found:
