Vic Mensa got pulled over for a traffic violation, but ended up spending the night in jail for having a gun in his car with a permit — the wrong one, allegedly.
The Roc Nation rapper was stopped in Beverly Hills last week for running a stop sign and having tinted windows … according to law enforcement sources. We’re told he informed cops he had a gun in his car and showed them his concealed carry permit. The problem is … cops say the permit is for another state.
According to the police report … Vic was arrested and booked on a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. After one night in jail, he was released on $35,000 bail.
Mensa had a run-in with Bev Hills PD last summer … and felt he was racially profiled while shopping.
A year ago, 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was killed by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke; recently, the footage was finally ordered released to the public, which you can see below:
Naturally, this set the emotions of the city on fire, and many took to the streets of Chicago in protest — one of which was rising star Vic Mensa. Below, you can check out footage of Mensa taking part in the protests.

They spend the day gathering cash to bail fellow rapper Joey Purp out of jail, and on the way we chat about the city’s scene. Vic doesn’t associate himself with the Chiraq lifestyle because he feels it’s too negative, but understands the struggles of those who come from that part of the city. He’s also, surprisingly, a really big fan of Rage Against the Machine.
We’re a fan of true MCs on Sway in the Morning, that’s why we invite the worthy up-and-coming rappers to prove their skills, live for the world to hear.
