Rapper Simba Sentenced To 24 Years for Armed Robbery

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Two teenage gang members will spend more than 20 years in prison for robbing five high school students at gunpoint last year.

Prosecutors say Shiloh Young and Timario Gregg targeted students from Watkins Mill High School in Montgomery County and stole their cell phones, jackets and shoes as they were walking back from lunch.

Police say investigators were able to track down the pair because Young recorded himself rapping on one of the stolen cell phones.

Young is a local rap artist known as “Simba” who has more than 2 million views on his YouTube channel.

Gregg was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the robbery while Young was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

“This is a huge win for the community,” said Montgomery County Police Lt. Jason Cokinos. “The crime rate that this organization, these leaders were overseeing and encouraging, it will definitely put a dent in crime in the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village area. People should feel good about the sentences knowing that two violent felons are off the street for a significant period of time.”

Both Gregg and Young have been in trouble with the law in the past.

In 2016, Gregg was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor for his alleged involvement in a deadly shooting.

In 2017, Young was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder that took place in Montgomery Village. He is still awaiting trial for that case.

For Immediate Release: #DCBLC Seeks to Ask D.C. Voters to Legalize ATVs, Dirt Bikes & UTVs

 DC BIkelife Campaign

I’m a founding member of JukeBOXDC.com & Chairman of the DC #BikeLife Campaign. DCBLC was assembled as a response to the overzealous and dangerous pursuit of #BikeLife enthusiasts on public and private space.

We have drafted legal text outlining a new licensing, registration and regulation of these non-traditional vehicles, much like the legalization in Salt Lake City, the greater state of Utah and other limited use states.

Currently, Dirt Bike & ATV usage in Washington, DC is banned. In fact the penalty is a automatic arrest that comes with a $250 fine and potentially a 30 day stay in jail for operation alone.

Additionally, there is a bounty, equal to the fine, offered as a financial incentive for citizens who provide information on other citizens in possession of or actively operating an ATV or Dirt Bike. Property will be seized and those actively operating these vehicles will be arrested.

However, #bikelife aggression from law enforcement often spills into other, legal #bikelife enthusiasts paths. This weekend, I was in DC’s #Chinatown to celebrate my Queens’ birthday. As we circled the busy business/entertainment district searching for parking we found something unexpected. We saw 10-15 bicyclists having a great time, none looking any older than the size of the group. Then we see something disheartening. As the last of their group came around a corner there were two uniformed police officers following them, seeming to usher them out of this area of the city.

On September 11, 2016 #TerrenceSterling found himself in a fatal encounter with the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC. As Mr. Sterling was leaving a gathering in the #AdamsMorgan business/entertainment area of the city he was pursued by an MPD unit. Mr. Sterling, a Maryland man, headed towards the highway as the officers were told to stand down. DC is supposed to have a #NOchase policy. They instead found another route to apprehend Mr. sterling before he reached the highway. Using their cruiser as a barricade, the driving officers cut off Sterling’s path just across the street from the highway on ramp. Sterling and his bike struck the cruiser door (t-bone), an officer then fired shots from inside the cruiser fatally striking Sterling in the neck and torso. Courts later found that there was no clear nor present danger to provoke this lethal response.

#DCBLC sees the public safety risk that this system creates through policy and policing. In the last few months officers have been recorded pursuing ATVs in a dangerous fashion. One was seen driving Ford Explorer SUV cruiser a over grassy median to apprehend a much smaller ATV vehicle. Recently there was a low speed chase involving several cruisers where a bike patrol officer was recorded attempting to jump from his bike to tackle a ATV rider off of their vehicle in front of cruisers in the middle of an intersection. Yes, this occurred in a  in yet another entertainment/business district in DC, U Street.

Currently in DC, on average there’s been 1 to 6 deaths per year involving motorcycles (dirt bikes) and ATVs. However this disproportionate police response is causing more danger than is naturally present.

Many people complain about pack riding, calling it a nuisance. Our police department on any given weekend may issue 200+ warrants at one time from surveillance footage and pursuits. We argue the bounty, threat of aggression, automatic arrest create the climate that shapes the public safety risk. It encourages anyone illegally involved in bike life to ride in a flock, leave the scene of an accident and hide their identity in public for personal safety.

Republican policy advisers and Democratic candidates for this years elections in DC have told DCBLC they find these policies racist. Furthermore, they provide an easy supply chain to fill our courts and jails. However, no D.C. court nor Council has attempted to change this as it is considered unpopular. Some say we can’t change the law because riding is illegal. This argument is nonsensical since in DC the people can write, petition & change laws ourselves.

Washington, D.C. has remained very flexible and fluid when new forms of transportation become available for purchase. D.C. has laws for what vehicle manufacturer, Polaris, describes as an open-air roadster – 3 wheel motorcycle. Absurdly powerful. No roof. No doors. No regrets.

D.C. has no regrets when it comes to accepting taxes, registration fees and allowing the operation of vehicles like these on our streets. DCBLC does not disagree. On the contrary we support the right, yes, the right of mobility and travel. This is guaranteed to us by not only by the U.S. Constitution but by United Nations General Assembly treaty law as agreed to in article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:

Article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights incorporates this right into treaty law:

(1) Everyone lawfully within the territory of a State shall, within that territory, have the right to liberty of movement and freedom to choose his residence.

(2) Everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own.

(3) The above-mentioned rights shall not be subject to any restrictions except those provided by law, are necessary to protect national security, public order (ordre publique), public health or morals or the rights and freedoms of others, and are consistent with the other rights recognized in the present Covenant.

(4) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of the right to enter his own country.

Currently D.C. code says:

(a) No person shall:

(1) Operate at any time an all-terrain vehicle or dirt bike on public property, including any public space in the District; or

(2) Park at any time an all-terrain vehicle or dirt bike on public property, including any public space in the District.

(b) All-terrain vehicles or dirt bikes shall not be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

(c) A person violating any provision of this section shall upon conviction be fined no more than the amount set forth in § 22-3571.01, or incarcerated for no more than 30 days, or both.

(d) In addition to the penalties described in subsection (c) of this section, a person who is convicted of violating subsection (a)(1) of this section shall, upon a second or subsequent conviction for violating subsection (a)(1) of this section, have his or her driver’s license, or privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the District, suspended for one year from the date of conviction; provided, that the period of suspension shall toll during a period of incarceration.

(e) The Attorney General for the District of Columbia, or his or her assistants, shall prosecute violations of this section, in the name of the District of Columbia.

(f) An all-terrain vehicle or dirt bike operated or parked in violation of this section shall be subject to forfeiture pursuant to the standards and procedures set forth in Chapter 3 of Title 41.

DCBLC sees this law and enforcement policy as a greater public safety risk, cultural discrimination and an overall egregious violation of U.S. & global rights. We may not live in a recognized state but we do recognize the state of affairs. Fortunately, Washington, D.C. residents have the right initiate or amend a law by petition. After language is submitted and approved, initiators must collect approx. 24,000 signatures from the almost 700,000 residents of D.C. to place laws on the ballot for a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ vote. The next step for DC #BikeLife Campaign is to have a hearing on our revised ballot language which can be found on our website.

Click the link, read our proposed law and share your thoughts with us through our network (below). If you would like a PDF copy for review, just send us an email request. We look forward to hearing your feedback and working with you to create a free and safe D.C. that respects all of our rights, indiscriminately.

Thoughtfully,

Eric Butler, Jr
Chairman, DC #BikeLife Campaign

Fredo Santana Passes Away At 27

Condolences to Fredo’s friends and family. From TMZ:

Rapper Fredo Santana died Friday night from a seizure … family members tell TMZ.

The Chicago rapper who is a cousin of Chief Keef was at his L.A. home Friday. We’re told his girlfriend came over at around 11:30 PM and found him dead on the floor.

Santana had been hospitalized recently for liver and kidney problems he’d been battling for months.

The rapper had talked openly about his lean addiction … as we’ve reported way too many times, lean can trigger seizures.

A number of rappers including Drake have gone on social media the last few hours to pay their respects.

He had an 8-month old son.

Fredo was 27. RIP.

FINALLY: Kevin Gates Released From Prison

From TMZ:

Kevin Gates walked out of prison Wednesday morning, as scheduled, and no surprise warrants this time around … TMZ has learned.

Gates served 9 months of a 30-month sentence, and was released from an Illinois state prison on parole. As we first reported, he’ll be on mandatory supervision and can’t possess any firearms.

The rapper was also released from custody last year in Florida — after doing time for kicking a woman at one of his concerts — but was immediately re-arrested for an outstanding warrant in Illinois for a weapons charge.

Did Migos Really Jump XXXTentacion? (Video)

By now, you’ve probably heard about XXXTentacion’s recent claims that he was jumped by members of Migos’ entourage (source)…well, here’s the latest, as seen via HNHH:

Footage of XXXTENTACION and Migos altercation has surfaced. The footage shows what seems like X on the ground with someone on top of him struggling to get a few hits in. Meanwhile, X’s homeboy is heard screaming for police in the background.

X still stays on the ground while the fight continues. “I ain’t callin’ no police, n****,” he says before continuing to tell who ever’s on top of him to fight him one on one. The captured encounter doesn’t match what he said on his Instagram story.

After the whole fight happened initially, X went online to put Takeoff on blast, specifically. He said that Takeoff went running after while X chased him down with a camera. In the footage, there’s not even a sign of Takeoff or any visible footage of anyone in the Migos, atleast not enough to pin the blame on them.

Boosie Badazz Gives His Take on Meek Mill Situation

From TMZ:

Boosie thinks Meek Mill should be celebrating his 2 to 4-year sentence … because he’s gonna do way less time than that, and make way more money than he would if he wasn’t behind bars.

We got Boosie at LAX and he told us a guy like Meek can do this bid with his eyes closed, especially because his controversial prison sentence will most likely translate to only 10 months with good behavior.

Boosie, who did 5 years himself, says the real benefit will be waiting when Meek walks out of prison.

Crime may not pay, but prison pays off like a mutha … according to Boosie, anyway.

Quavo and Migos Tried Jumping A Guy Last Week

From TMZ:

Quavo and Offset from Migos took a couple of hard swings at a guy twice their size … and came up short.

The 2 members of the rap trio got into a scuffle Thursday night at the W Hotel off Lexington Ave. in NYC, after their show at the Power 105.1 Powerhouse concert.

It looks like the man was in an altercation with another group of guys before Quavo and Offset jumped in. Some of those dudes might have been in Migos’ camp, especially by the way Quavo and Offset reacted. Unclear what exactly set things off.

Law enforcement sources tell us cops were not called to the hotel, so it would appear this one got handled in the streets.

We’ve reached out to Migos for comment … so far, no word back.

RIP 30 Glizzy

This past Wednesday around 5 AM, police officers from Baltimore city’s Southern District found a man dead, who turned out to be D.C.’s own 30 Glizzy (source):

Theodore Dashawn Pigford, 26 — better known as the Washington-area rapper “30 Glizzy” — was the man fatally shot in South Baltimore on Wednesday, police and Pigford’s attorney confirmed Thursday.

Police confirmed Pigford’s name, and attorney John McKenna, who represented Pigford in previous criminal cases and maintained contact with him, confirmed he was the rapper.

30 Glizzy, 26, was riding off of the release of his late-summer mixtape, YCWITMe, a tribute to the fallen GG-affiliate also known as Trap Flava Cee.

One of his first big songs, and a personal favorite “Kick Door”. RIP 30 Glizzy.

The Verizon Center Is Now Capital One Arena

From the Washington Post, where you can read the full story:

Washington’s downtown sports arena is changing names, effective immediately. Monumental Sports and Entertainment will make the switch official on Wednesday, announcing that Verizon Center will now be known as Capital One Arena. The signage and branding makeover will happen this fall, but there’s already a new logo and a third name for the Chinatown venue, which opened as the MCI Center in the winter of 1997.

The previous 20-year naming rights arrangement was negotiated by former Wizards and Capitals owner Abe Pollin, and current owner Ted Leonsis has said repeatedly that he was seeking a more team-friendly deal. The Verizon deal was set to expire in 2018, but Capital One’s involvement accelerated the schedule.

Financial details were not released, but the deal is worth $100 million over 10 years, according to a source familiar with the arrangement, who confirmed an earlier Bloomberg report. That’s believed to be a significant jump over what Monumental received per year from the previous deal.

Former D.C. Councilman Jim Graham has died, the D.C. Council says.

The Council was informed that he died earlier Thursday, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said Thursday afternoon.
He was 71, The Washington Post reported.

Graham represented Washington’s Ward 1 for four terms, starting in 1998. He was committed to city residents, Mendelson said.

“Jim had a strong commitment to the District that pre-dated his election to the Council. His work at Whitman Walker Clinic in the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic was widely and highly regarded,” Mendelson said in a statement.

“On the Council, Jim worked especially hard on issues like homelessness, juvenile justice, diversity and public transportation. The District thanks him for his long public service and many accomplishments. He left our city a better place,” he continued.

Kodak Black Released From Prison (Again)

From TMZ:

Kodak Black is a free man after completing a voluntary life skills course behind bars that made him eligible for early release.

Kodak was released Monday morning from Broward County Jail after serving 97 days of a 364 day sentence for violating house arrest. He’s now back on house arrest for another year. He’ll need to request permission from his probation officer and court if he wants to travel anywhere for work, even inside Florida.

As we reported, his trouble adhering to house arrest is what landed him in jail. He bolted without permission at least 2 times, once to hit up a strip club.

We’re told KB’s prison life skills course covered domestic violence, parenting, financial management — and, perhaps most importantly … problem solving and self-control skills.
