Nipsey Hussle Arrested For Possession Of Codeine

video

From the L.A. Times:

Rapper Nipsey Hussle was arrested Wednesday in Burbank after officers found a bottle of codeine in his car during a traffic stop, police said.

Police stopped the 29-year-old rapper, born Ermias Asghedom, on suspicion of traffic violations at 11:20 p.m., at Ford Street and Magnolia Boulevard. Officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, Burbank police Lt. Adam Cornils said.

With his consent, officers searched his car. They found a bottle of codeine without a prescription label as well as a soft drink and a cup of ice — ingredients used to make a highly potent drink, Cornils said.

“People who abuse codeine to get high commonly acquire it either from friends/associates or through fraudulent prescriptions, and remove the prescription label to mask where it came from and who it was prescribed to,” Cornils said.

The codeine, he said, is mixed with soft drinks.

Asghedom was unable to produce a prescription, Cornils said. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, as well as for the outstanding warrant.

Asghedom was released after posting $1,000 bail.

Bobby Shmurda Trial Date Set For October; Offered 8-Year Plea Deal

Bobby-Shmurda-featuring-Fabolous-Jadakiss-Chris-Brown-Busta-Rhymes-Yo-Gotti-Rowdy-Rebel-hot-nigga-remix-00

From BET:

Being walked out in handcuffs, Bobby Shmurda appeared emotionless entering the Manhattan Supreme Criminal Court in New York City on Thursday.

With a plethora of family, friends and GS9 affiliates all in attendance, the “Hot N***a” rapper moved swiftly to the stand awaiting the hearing’s word while his lawyer Kenneth Montgomery stood tall and seemingly confident beside him.

Prosecutors announced that they were offering him a plea deal of eight years in prison for second-degree possession of a weapon followed by five years of probation [In related news, Rowdy Rebel was offered seven]. As the announcement was made, the rapper’s family appeared to be distraught. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

Montgomery informed reporters that he has to talk to his client about whether he would accept the deal, but “maintained his innocence.” He added that the two still need to “sit down and have a meaningful conversation.”

Prosecutors backed up their seemingly harsh plea deal by informing the judge that Bobby had been re-arrested while in Rikers Island for possession of a sharpened metal object.

When he exclusively spoke to BET.com last week, Montgomery said that prosecutors are looking to make an example out of the rapper.

“Obviously him and Rowdy are two people who the government is going to take a hard position saying, ‘You know what? We’re not offering them anything or we’re going to offer them something extremely high to put them in a trial posture because of the publicity of the case.”

Shmurda’s trial date has been set for Oct. 5. The judge made it clear that this would be a long-winded trial, one expected to span over two months.

RUMOR NEWS: Gucci Mane Isn’t Getting Released Anytime Soon

gucci-mane

People like Mike MiLL Made It have been getting Gucci Mane fans excited for a July release from prison, but Gucci’s lawyer is here to tell you not to hold your breath (from MTV News):

We do not know where that rumor came from, so that’s just Internet and social media fabrication. We have no idea where that release date came from because we’re still in the midst of resolving things with the Bureau of Prisons. There was some confusion on their part, about his release date.

I can’t get into specifics, but we’re in the midst of corresponding with the Bureau of Prisons. I’m trying to iron out a specific release date for him, but that I can tell you that is not his release date. There’s nothing formal about that. It’s a product of social media.

Meek Mill Writes Open Letter On Being A Father

98f3df66c4cb11e1985822000a1d011d_7

As seen in TIME Magazine, you can read Meek’s letter below. Happy Father’s Day.

‘Growing up without a father made me realize just how special time is with my son’

As a father, now I get to give my son the life I never had. Being able to give him anything he wants is one of the best feelings in the world—but it’s also scary. When you see how much one person can trust you, look up to you, and depend on you, the last thing you want to do is disappoint them. The fact that no one can teach you how to be a father means you are always learning on the job. I love my son with all my heart, and I would do anything for him. It’s a crazy feeling knowing that I will help him become a great man.

With my career and my crazy schedule, sometimes it’s tough to be able to spend the amount of time with him that I want and that he deserves. After spending time away from him, one of my favorite things to do is get on my four wheeler with my little man in tow. Picture us riding around my neighborhood waving at all my neighbors. My son is fearless on his bike. Those are the moments I think about when I’m on the road.

Before I leave, I always explain to him that everything I do, I do for him. All the shows, all the nights in the studio, I do with my son in mind. It doesn’t make it any easier, but I’m blessed to be in the financial situation that I’m in. I’m grateful I don’t have to think twice about whether there is going to be food on his table. My son doesn’t have to worry about that the way that I did—nor does the rest of my family. I’m not just a father to my son, but a provider to my whole family. I provide for them not because I have to, but because I want to. They have all been there for me through my highs and lows. They’ve always made sure I was taken care of, and now it’s my turn to take care of them.

I never had a strong male figure in my life. I didn’t have that person to teach me things fathers teach their sons because my father was killed when I was young. It was just me, my mom, and my sister, so I had to be the man of the house. When I was younger, I remember being able to speak to my father and then in the blink of an eye, he was gone. My mom played the role of both mom and dad. We had nothing growing up, so my mom worked any job she could find to provide for me and my sister. I love her so much for that. But as much as I appreciated everything my mother did for me, she couldn’t fill the space that a father should hold in a child’s life.

I still miss my dad, and I always will. Growing up without a father made me realize just how special time is with my son and how much of an impact I can have on his life. There are so many single mothers out there struggling to fill both roles, raising their families all by themselves. They don’t get the credit they deserve. There’s not enough ways to really say thank you, but we celebrate them, too, for all they do. To all my family and friends who are celebrating Father’s Day with their children, we salute you for being role models for all the young fathers in our community.

Charleston Church Killer Charged With 9 Counts Of Murder

From NY Times:

Mr. Roof, 21, who is white, was charged Friday with nine counts of murder and one count of criminal possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. All of the victims in the shooting at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church were black.

Law enforcement officials said that after he was arrested, he said he had just done something big in Charleston, and the .45-caliber pistol believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from his car.

In Mr. Roof’s first, brief court hearing, Magistrate James B. Gosnell Jr., set bail at $1 million on the gun charge, but explained that he did not have the authority to set bail on the murder charges, which would be handled by the state’s Circuit Court. The defendant watched impassively on a video link from a nearby jail as the judge invited victims’ relatives to speak.

“I’m a work in progress and I acknowledge that I’m very angry,” said Bethane Middleton-Brown, sister of one of the dead, the Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor. “She taught me we are the family that love built. We have no room for hate. We have to forgive.”

South Carolina: 9 Dead In Hate Crime Church Shooting

From CBS:

A white man opened fire during a prayer meeting inside a historic black church in downtown Charleston on Wednesday night, killing nine people in an assault that authorities described as a hate crime. The shooter was still at large.

The shooting took place at the Emanuel AME Church, Police Chief Greg Mullen said. He said there were survivors, but would not say how many, or how many were inside at the time of the shooting. He also would not confirm whether the pastor, state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, was one of the victims.

Mullen said eight victims were found dead inside the church and the ninth died at a hospital.

Mullen described the suspect as a white male in his early 20s, with sandy blonde hair. He said he believed it was a hate crime, but would not elaborate. He called the shooting “senseless.”

The Geto Boys Turn To Kickstarter To Fund New Album

gb

At one point, the idea of an artist or group (a veteran artist or group specifically) asking fans for money to make a new album seemed pretty hilarious….that is, until ones of De La Soul raised loads of cash doing so, proving that your fanbase will still support. Next up is legendary group The Geto Boys, who have turned to Kickstarter in the hopes of raising (at least) $100,000 for their new album Habeas Corpus.

You can get all the necessary info (including what you can score for yourself) over at Kickstarter.

Killer Mike Tries To Run As Write-In For Georgia State Representative; Turns Out He Couldn’t, Anyway

From CNN:

A local election in Georgia got a jolt of excitement Monday when the rapper Killer Mike threw his hat in the ring.

But it turned out to be the shortest campaign in history — or the longest, depending on how you look at it.

With the slogan “If I win, We Win,” Killer Mike made his campaign announcement on Instagram to his 110,000 followers.

“In Atlanta Georgia there will be special election tomorrow for District 55,” he wrote, referring to a state house district. “I would like as many people as possible to go to the polls and write in Michael Render.”

Render is his real name.

Local politicos quickly took to social media to point out that he couldn’t run as a write-in candidate without filing the necessary paperwork.

But the announcement also got a lot of love, both from the media and from fellow Atlanta rap luminary Big Boi, who shared the news on his Facebook page.

Five hours after he posted his initial plea for votes, Killer Mike posted a video on Instagram saying he didn’t have the paperwork and he couldn’t stand as a write-in. Like any good candidate, he thanked his supporters and urged people to cast a vote “for a qualified candidate.”

I can't run BUT For the folks that were willing to Write in #MichaelRender Thank U so Much. I am gonna run one day and WE WILL WIN. However in Ga I wud have to officially enter as a "write in" vs being an Actual Write in (those are the breaks) but, I really felt it important to draw attention to this race. “DMV Big Meech” Sentenced To 33 Years In Prison

melyssa-ford-and-ishmael-ford-bey

Fair warning — it’s a lengthy read (source):

Judge Chasanow had previously entered an order requiring Ford-Bey to pay a $108 million money judgment, and a forfeiture order for personal property, including luxury vehicles, jewelry and cash. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Karl C Colder of the Drug Enforcement Administration—Washington Field Division; Assistant Director in Charge Andrew G McCabe of the Federal Bureau of Investigation—Washington Field Office; Chief Mark A Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department; Chief of Police Robert D MacLean of the United States Park Police; Acting Postal Inspector in Charge David M McGinnis of the United States Postal Inspection Service—Washington Division; Special Agent in Charge Thomas J Kelly of the Internal Revenue Service—Criminal Investigation, Washington, DC. Field Office; Special Agent in Charge William P McMullan of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives—Baltimore Field Division; and Colonel William M Pallozzi, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police;.

According to court documents, from at least January 2011 through his arrest on August 16, 2013, Ishmael Ford-Bey conspired with Anthony Tatum and others to distribute cocaine. The drugs were often sold in different locations in Prince George’s County, Washington, DC. and Oxon Hill, Maryland. In late 2010, law enforcement received information that Tatum was the source of supply of cocaine to a cooperating source and that Ford-Bey was providing Tatum and others with kilogram quantities of cocaine.

Between April 2011 and January 2012, United States Park Police conducted undercover purchases of a total of 308 grams of crack cocaine from co-conspirator Terrin Anderson. Anderson drove a vehicle registered to Ford-Bey to make some of the deliveries. As a result of wire taps on conspirators’ cell phones law enforcement overheard numerous conversations with Ford-Bey discussing and arranging drug transactions. Agents observed Ford-Bey providing conspirators with drugs in exchange for cash.

On August 15, 2012, the Texas Department of Public Safety stopped a refrigerated box truck that was transporting thirteen boxes, each containing approximately ten kilograms of cocaine. The boxes were to be delivered to Ford-Bey in Temple Hills, Maryland. A controlled delivery of the boxes was arranged. On August 17, 2012, law enforcement established surveillance at the meeting location in Marlow Heights, Maryland.

A few minutes after the truck arrived at the meeting location, a vehicle registered to Ford-Bey at a Mitchellville address arrived at the location. Law enforcement observed the truck driver and Ford-Bey unloading the drugs into Ford-Bey’s vehicle. As Ford-Bey left the area, he was pursued by law enforcement officers. Ford-Bey abandoned the vehicle in the median on I-495 and ran away.

Agents recovered Ford-Bey’s vehicle, the cocaine, cell phones, and other evidence from the vehicle. Based upon review of the documents in the vehicle and further investigation, agents identified another residence for Ford-Bey located in the 2400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in Washington, DC. On the evening of August 17, 2012, officers were at the Pennsylvania Avenue address and saw Ford-Bey in the lobby. Ford-Bey fled dropping a bag that contained prepaid cellphones and other items.

Agents were unable to locate Ford-Bey. A search warrant of the residence resulted in the seizure of watches and jewelry, and a loaded Glock handgun. Agents also seized two other vehicles—a 2003 Audi and a 2011 Maserati, both registered to Ford-Bey. Ford-Bey was arrested on August 16, 2013, during a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by Ford-Bey’s girlfriend.

A Maryland State Trooper ran the tag and determined the vehicle was registered in the name of the driver and Ford-Bey. When the trooper asked Ford-Bey for identification, he identified himself as Jason Green and presented a New Jersey driver’s license in that name. The trooper pulled up the warrant photograph for Ford-Bey, positively identified him as Ford-Bey, and placed him under arrest. On October 1, 2013, a search warrant was executed at the apartment of a co-conspirator that Ford-Bey and co-conspirator Anthony Tatum had been identified as visiting.

Agents located a safe which contained $823,640 in cash, several expensive watches, and jewelry. In addition, agents recovered scales, three heat sealers, a coffee grinder, a currency counter, and other drug paraphernalia, as well as approximately 350 grams of cocaine. Latent fingerprints recovered from the heat sealers were identified as belonging to Ford-Bey and Tatum. In an effort to disguise and hide their drug proceeds, Ford-Bey, Tatum and others created numerous business entities, which had little, if any, legitimate business.

They set up bank accounts in the names of each business and deposited their drug proceeds into those business accounts. Between 2008 and 2011, Ford-Bey deposited drug proceeds into business bank accounts he owned or controlled. Ford-Bey used drug proceeds to purchase a 2007 Lexus for his girlfriend, a 2011 Land Rover vehicle for $65,749. Ford-Bey also purchased jewelry and used the drug proceeds to pay rent for his apartment and for travel expenses, among other things.

The government contends that over the course of the conspiracy Ford-Bey distributed approximately 1,710 kilograms of cocaine. Four defendants, including Ford-Bey were convicted federally for their participation in the conspiracy. Co-conspirators Terrin Tamal Anderson, age 29, of Waldorf, Maryland, and David Allen Jones, age 40, of District Heights, Maryland, previously pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 12 years in prison and 45 months in prison, respectively. Anthony Torrell Tatum, age 36, of Arlington, Virginia, also pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 7, 2015.

United States Attorney Rod J Rosenstein commended the DEA, FBI, Prince George’s County Police Department, United States Park Police, United States Postal Inspection Service, IRS-CI, ATF and Maryland State Police for their work in the investigation. Mr Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Deborah A Johnston and Thomas P Windom, who prosecuted this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.

YG Shooting (Probably) Caught On Video

maxresdefault

From TMZ:

The guy who shot YG may have unwittingly done it in front of an audience … unfortunately for him, an audience of cops.

We’ve learned multiple cameras may have captured the violence early Friday morning outside a San Fernando Valley recording studio/apartment complex, when YG was shot 3 times in the hip. The shooter is still on the loose.

Our sources say the cameras appear to have been in position to capture the shooting. LAPD detectives have already requested the video, which they’ll get within a day or 2.

What’s more … we’re told there are video cameras in the studio where YG was recording just before the shooting. Our sources say a number of people were in the studio and some sort of fight erupted shortly before shots were fired.

YG Reportedly Shot 3 Times In L.A.

0612-yg-tmz-7

Early this morning, YG was reportedly shot 3 times at a recording studio…thankfully, it wasn’t life-threatening. Naturally, police couldn’t get a word out of him regarding what happened. From TMZ:

Law enforcement sources tell us, it happened at around 1:45 AM in Studio City. We’re told someone shot YG 3 times in the hip.

Somehow the rapper was able to get in his car and someone from his group drove him to a nearby hospital.

Cops were called and found multiple shell casings and blood on the sidewalk. Police went to the hospital to interview YG but we are told he was “very uncooperative.”

YG’s rep says the injuries are not life threatening, and he’s doing fine.

We’re told the shooter is still on the loose.

White NAACP Chapter President Caught Passing As Black; Black Twitter Memes In Rare Form As A Result

First, the story (simplified): Rachel Dolezal is the President of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP…she’s also White. The problem isn’t the race, it’s the fact that — up until recently (maybe yesterday?) — she was intentionally passing as Black, complete with lies about her parents, upbringing and more. Here’s an excerpt from Buzzfeed:

A civil rights leader in Eastern Washington state has been passing herself off as black for years, her parents told local media…Dolezal’s parents also told local media outlets that their daughter’s heritage is Czech, Swedish, and German — including possible traces of Native American.

Larry Dolezal told BuzzFeed News he could not fully explain why his daughter might have wanted to pose as a black woman. But, he added: “She has over the past 20 years assimilated herself into the African-American community through her various advocacy and social justice work, and so that may be part of the answer.” He went on to say that Rachel cut off all communication with him and her mother, and “doesn’t want us visible in the Spokane area in her circle because we’re Caucasian.”

If you actually go to the story, the lies and deception only get deeper. Enter Black Twitter, who have been providing the usual hilarious fare of jokes at Dolezal’s expense. We’ve grouped out favorites below. UPDATE: NAACP has responded in support of Ms. Dolezal. We’ve added that in the below gallery.

From TMZ:

The Game must really have fists like Mike Tyson, because the guy suing him over that punch he threw in a basketball game … wants more than $12 million for his troubles.

In new court docs, Onyebuchi Awaji — the off-duty cop Game decked — says he’s suffered a ton of physical, emotional, and financial pain due to the incident:

Pain and suffering: $1,000,000
Emotional distress: $1,000,000
Medical expenses (to date): $50,000
Medical expenses (future): $100,000
Punitive damages: TEN MILLION DOLLARS

In the docs, Awaji says Game has yet to respond to the lawsuit, which was filed in April.

Don’t let the video fool ya — suddenly, there’s nothing cheap about this shot.

Rick Ross Arrested For Marijuana In GA

0610-rick-ross-tmz-9

In Georgia, apparently, people still get arrested for marijuana (as with many other places), which in itself is the possibly the dumbest s*** still happening in America. From TMZ:

Rick Ross was just busted in his Bentley which apparently reeked of marijuana.

Ross was rolling along in Fayette County, GA when cops pulled him over for tinted windows. Cops say when they got close to Ross’ car they smelled pot, and that gave them the right to search the fancy ride.

Cops tell us the search was fruitful, producing five “marijuana cigarettes” — enough to hook up Ricky Rozay and take him to the pokey.

This is Ross’ second pot arrest. So far, no comment from the Bawse.

Nicki Minaj Responds To Safaree’s Scathing New Track

Check out the song in full above, but Nicki Minaj has responded to ex Safaree’s new single ‘Love The Most’, which gets pretty deep in regards to their former relationship. You can check out the full response (made via Twitter) below.

McKinney, TX Police Officer Resigns Over Pool Party Video

From the NY Times:

A police officer in McKinney, Tex., who was seen on video pulling his gun on teenagers in swimsuits and shoving a young black girl’s face in the ground at a pool party has resigned, the police said Tuesday.

Cpl. David Eric Casebolt, who had been placed on administrative leave after the episode on Friday, remains under investigation, Chief Greg Conley said at a news conference. The corporal will keep his pension and benefits, the police chief said.

“Our policies, our training, our practice doesn’t support his actions,” Chief Conley said. “He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows was out of control during the incident.”

The video was taken on a cellphone and posted to YouTube, where it set off another in a recent series of debates involving race and police tactics. The police said Corporal Casebolt and other officers were responding to a call about a fight and a disturbance at a community pool in Craig Ranch, a racially diverse subdivision north of Dallas.

Corporal Casebolt can be heard shouting profanities at the teenagers, and officers handcuffed several who had followed his orders to sit on the ground. He appeared to grab the girl and pin her to the ground after she did not heed his orders to leave.

One adult man was arrested on charges of interfering with the duties of a police officer and evading arrest. Chief Conley said on Tuesday that those charges had been dismissed.

At the news conference, Mayor Brian Loughmiller said that officials recognized a need for better training for officers, but that there needed to be expectations for interactions with police.

Greg Willis, the district attorney for Collin County, said in a statement on Tuesday that his office had received numerous inquiries about the case.

“We share the public’s legitimate interest in a full and fair investigation of this matter,” he said. “We are currently awaiting the results of the McKinney Police Department’s investigation and ask for patience as their investigation continues.”
