Tony Yayo Speaks On Fan ‘Beatdown’ In Brazil

From MTV News:

One overzealous fan doesn’t stop a show, Tony Yayo says. Earlier this week, footage of 50 Cent and G-Unit performing in Salvador, Brazil, hit the Internet. In the middle of “Ayo Technology,” a fan jumps onstage and tries to grab the G-Unit general. 50’s security and Lloyd Banks promptly subdue the fan – and the song never stops. On Tuesday (July 13), Yayo gave his take on the situation.

“The show got crazy, man,” Yayo, who is still in Brazil with his crew, told MTV News via phone. “For security reasons, when somebody jumps onstage … when [performers] got on chains for $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, that’s a security risk right here. Nobody should be onstage except me, Banks and 50. It was just a fan — he got a little carried away, a little happy. People make it seem like he got beat down real, real bad. He didn’t get beat down bad — he just got tackled, taken off the stage and the show [went] on.”

Yayo said that whenever the Unit go to foreign territories, fandemonium ensues.

“We been getting crazy love,” Tony added about the group’s time in Brazil. “That’s why I don’t want people in Brazil to think we out here beating down our fans. When somebody is on the stage, you want to keep the show going. We never stop the show. When you onstage and you got a crowd of 10,000 Brazilian people, you don’t want to stop it because a guy is jumping onstage. Just like Africa or other places you go, people get excited — we’re like UFOs to the people. They don’t see rappers come to Brazil and come to these other places. Sometimes fans get a little excited — that’s what that was about. The guy wasn’t beat up bad or nothing.”

The incident was hardly the first time a fan has crashed a G-Unit performance. Back in 2008, a fan in Angola jumped onstage and endeavored to make off with 50’s Cent chain. Fif and company promptly jumped in the audience and recovered the merchandise. The man was later arrested after being turned in to police by his own parents.

E-40 & Bobby Brackins Speak On Oscar Grant

From Ozone Magazine:

Ozone reached out to Bay Area rappers E-40 and Universal Republic recording artist Bobby Brackins to allow members of the Hip Hop community, both seasoned and new, to offer their views on what many are calling an injustice.

E-40: It was clear to see that Oscar was on his stomach and they had him contained. It wasn’t like he was fighting the police. They was on his back. First of all, a taser is much lighter than a gun. So I don’t see how that was a mistake. Another thing is that after he shot him, he acting like it was nothing. He didn’t trip at all, it was like he did it before. I feel like it should’ve been a harsher sentence and he should have been fully convicted. I feel like the jury was unfair. There were no African Americans on the jury. I think it was wrong. I know the police are supposed to do their job, but that was wrong. He knows what he was doing when he killed him. Oscar didn’t think he was going to die that day. He was in the most harmless position possible.

Bobby Brackins: I feel like it’s crazy. It’s a real injustice. I don’t understand how you can be on video camera with your back to somebody in handcuffs and get killed and [the killer] gets away with involuntary manslaughter. It makes no sense to me and it just shows how corrupt the justice system can be. Oakland has been through a lot of hardships. I’m only 21 years old and a lot of my friends out there have [been killed]. You know the system is corrupt but you’ve just gotta try to be as positive and hopeful as possible. Hopefully, if more people around the world hear about the situation, the government and police officers will open their eyes and realize that they can’t get away with doing crimes like that.

Wyclef Jean: ‘Speed Up The Rebirth Of Haiti’

Wyclef marks the six month anniversary of the Haiti disaster by continuing his message as a guest blogger on CNN:

It’s been almost six months since the January 12 earthquake that devastated my beloved Haiti. Speaking for myself — not for my organization Yéle Haiti — I will say it: Speed is of the essence. I feel that progress is being made at the speed of a turtle.

With the amount of money that has been raised to help our country, I was expecting to see construction projects. I was expecting to see thousands of heavy tractors and loaders lifting up rubble. I was expecting to see people relocated from tents and starting to get into temporary housing. And yet, during my last visit, just a few weeks ago, I saw very few, or none, of these.

We need to work together — no one organization or government can succeed without the help and cooperation of others. We need to work together for the people there who so badly need our help. The country needs to grow in all areas, from agriculture to health care.

Many people have been working very hard with the recovery efforts since that terrible day. Many of us were there the day after the quake, and we’ve gone back many times since, to deliver much-needed supplies and plan ways to rebuild — and really just to try to help the people. Unless you’ve been there yourself, you can’t imagine the terrible conditions that still exist for so many.

Impact your world: How you can help Haiti

At last count, about 1.6 million Haitians are still living in the tent camps, without enough food, or a sufficient supply of water, and certainly without any feeling of safety or security. All of these refugees are dependent on donations and have no means to support or sustain themselves.

And this doesn’t even include the countless people who have been reluctant to leave their land and their destroyed homes, so they are living with very little shelter on their property, in tents they’ve fashioned from whatever materials they could find. The unemployment rate of the country is tragic — it’s between 70 and 80 percent.

At Yéle Haiti, my wife, Claudinette, and I and the staff have been doing what we can. We recently met with Leslie Voltaire, Haiti’s special envoy to the United Nations, who is charged by President René Préval with facilitating the international community’s efforts to make sure there’s effective aid management and delivery through the offices of Bill Clinton, the U.N.’s special envoy to Haiti. So we brought Leslie to a property where we are working to show him what we’re doing.

We showed him how we’ve been serving water. We reviewed with him our plans for Yéle Kitchen, the sustainable kitchen project we are funding, which will provide hot meals for children in schools and orphanages, and which will also provide vocational training for its workers, who will be able to sell some of the food they cook.

Then we showed him the most important project we’re working on: the temporary housing that we want to create that would become permanent homes. We’re proposing a city called Exodus. We could then start to relocate families who don’t have homes into this new place.

We want to work with the government to rebuild, and we want to help get families into new homes. We suggest starting with a model; the goal for Exodus is to eventually build 1,000 homes, which translates to housing for 5,000 people. We are working with the government on agreeing to a site in the area of Croix-des-Bouquets for building our first hundred units.

If the government works with us in identifying people to relocate, Yéle would start with that piece of land, which has a great agricultural component to it. People will be able not only to live in the housing we’re planning to build, but also to plant on that land, grow on that land, then sell their crops from stands on the streets or to commercial markets.

In this way, we won’t just be giving these families shelter, we’ll be giving them a way to sustain themselves, either by growing their own food or — ultimately, this is our wish — growing enough so that they’d be able to sell some of the produce and have an income.

We need to bring business back to Haiti, we need to focus on jobs — and, of course, education. As we reach the six-month mark, let’s make a renewed commitment to cooperate, collaborate, do whatever it takes to make sure the next six months are eventful in terms of real progress.

Let’s do what we have to do to see things start to move more quickly. No more turtle speed; let’s try to pick up the pace of Haiti’s rebirth.

Cipha Sounds Presents: The 75 Greatest Tunnel Bangers

Check out the breakdown below and then read the article here.

Tun·nel bang·er (noun) Circa 1994-2000, a record—often hardcore and aggressive—that whipped the crowd into a frenzy during the prime-time hour after 1 a.m. at the NYC club’s Sunday-night party.

To truly understand the definition of a “Tunnel banger,” you first need to know about the Tunnel itself. Peter Gatien’s NYC nightclub was a hotspot for house music and techno in the early ’90s, but it wasn’t until the creation of a Sunday-night party called “Mecca” that the Tunnel would cement its place in hip-hop lore. When Funkmaster Flex took over the party’s prime-time slot—roughly 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.—in the mid-’90s, the “Tunnel banger” was born.

So what was the Tunnel like on a Sunday night? As Flex’s warm-up DJ (along with Big Kap), Cipha Sounds was there for it all. The crowd? “The thugs, the drug dealers, the fucking jail dudes. Even the security guards were hustlers,” says Ciph. The mood? “It wasn’t a ‘dance’ club, people weren’t really dancing,” he says. “But records would just make people go crazy, hands in the sky, jumping.” And the music? “The records you would not hear at any other club because they were too hard,” says Ciph. “Street records, which would usually just be album cuts, became their own genre.” Yep: Tunnel bangers. This all sound kinda crazy? Well, it was—the Tunnel was shut down nearly every year because of violence, and eventually closed for good in 2001. All that remains are the memories…and the music. With a Flex co-sign, Cipha Sounds went back to the good ol’ days©—when hardcore rap and NYC still mattered—for this epic countdown of the 75 Greatest Tunnel Bangers. Now take your shoes off and get in a single-file line…

Lil Wayne – Letter #04: As Time Flies

The newest letter from Lil Wayne, now 4 months in at Rikers:

Hello world… I’m good. Counting the days and still smiling. Most of those smiles come from hearing my kids’ voices over the phone. The others come from reading fan mail. Let me just say that I have the best fans in the world! The devotion, dedication, support, love, and most of all, prayers are simply the best. I never imagined that I could have such an impact on people’s lives. Because of this, I vow to be a bit more careful of what I say.

So I’ve been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair. I listen to the radio sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, and I hear the new music. I like some. I applaud my Young Money family for what they’re doing. As I’m not surprised. This is what we’re supposed to do. Congrats to Drake and Nicki for all their recent success. Those 2 are going to have me retiring early. I love my team. Much love to Tez and Mack. I know that people are inquisitive of what I do all day, so here goes. I wake up around 11AM. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That’s my day.

I’ll end this letter, but never my love. I’m gone. Oh, and how ‘bout dem Lakers!?!

P.S. I thank my fans for appreciating me the way you do.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Widow Sells His Last Album Off For Peanuts

I never use this term, but…in today’s DUMB BITCH news (courtesy of the New York Post):

The widow of rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard hawked his prized final album for a song.

So says ODB’s former manager, Jarred Weisfeld, who claims Icelene Jones quietly signed away the rights to “A Son Unique,” the singer’s posthumously- released album, and spent the proceeds.

“She sold out for peanuts,” said Weisfeld, who said he was told the price was as little as $10,000.

Weisfeld believed that the album could have brought in millions for ODB’s survivors, who include his mother, Cherry Jones, and four baby mamas who bore his children.

Family members and Weisfeld have squared off in Brooklyn Surrogate Court, for control over what’s left of his career earnings. Icelene Jones did not return calls.

No words for this…

The-Dream Shocks And Amazes The ‘Paparazzi’

Really? But where’s…here, make whatever conclusions you want out of it…this isn’t a gossip site anyway.

Update: Turns out The-Dream and Christina Milian are separating. It also turns out the side piece in question…

…is the one on the right. Damn dude…
Sidebar: I don’t get it. Christina Milian is GORGEOUS. Like, really:
?! What am I missing? Is she crazy (as Latino women are known to be particularly ‘passionate’, so I hear…)? Anyways, more pics of homewreckin’ in action after the jump.

Birdman’s Alleged Oil Well

Well, here’s a wacky enough video for the day…this is supposedly Bronald‘s (Baby & Slim’s) oil well in Oklahoma that Bloomberg cast doubt over. Maybe it’s true and maybe it isn’t…I supposed we’ll find out sooner or later.

P.S. Two things: 1) did not realize that Baby covered his tat up, even after I saw those big ass red stars on his head (pause) and 2) what’s the hell was going on at the end of the video? Wth?

John Legend x The Roots ‘Wake Up!’ Tracklisting

From Rap-Up:

John Legend and The Roots deliver a Wake Up! call to listeners with their soulful collaborative effort. The 11-track album, due September 21, contains covers of songs from the ’60s and ’70s, including Marvin Gaye’s “Wholy Holy,” Donny Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy,” and the Common and Melanie Fiona-assisted first single “Wake Up Everybody.” The inspiring collection also features one original composition called “Shine,” which serves as the theme for the documentary Waiting for Superman.

“These songs sound so relevant now,” stated Legend. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ has four verses—the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.”

Tracklisting below:

1. “Compared to What”
2. “Hard Times”
3. “Little Ghetto Boy”
4. “Wake Up Everybody” feat. Common and Melanie Fiona
5. “Our Generation”
6. “Love the Way It Should Be”
7. “Hang On in There”
8. “I Can’t Write Left Handed”
9. “Wholy Holy”
10. “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free”
11. “Shine”

Lil Wayne Will Release ‘I’m Not A Human Being’ EP In September

From Vibe.com:
2010 is carving itself out to be the year of the anticipated rap album. From Drake to Eminem to Rick Ross to Nicki Minaj, fans get just enough time to feast on a new LP before salivation is induced by another superstar’s release.
Lil Wayne’s Carter IV is in heavy contention with Kanye West’s Good Ass Job for most anticipated. The bad news: Weezy fans have to wait until the enigmatic rap star’s November prison release to experience the Carter series’ fourth installment. The good news: “I’m putting out a [Wayne] album called I’m Not A Human Being and I’ll probably drop it on his birthday, September 27,” says Cortez Bryant, Lil Wayne’s co-manager and Young Money CEO.

According to Bryant, the album will be an EP of all new Wayne material to serve as the Carter IV prelude. Fans are also warned not to expect any marketing and promotion bells and whistles.

“We not about to roll out no three month set up,” says Bryant. “I’m not even putting it out in stores. We just gonna put it out virally and maybe package it up for Christmas. Give ’em a hard copy later for fan appreciation.”

Did J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League Jack The ‘Maybach Music 3’ Beat?

This is from Illseed’s Rumors page, so…apparently, there is a producer names Wyldfyer who has produced for the likes of Jay-Z & Nas, to name a few. He is saying (or perhaps merely insinuating without distinct accusation) that J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League may have taken a beat he submitted to Rick Ross (who may not be void of guilt on this either) and created their own version of it. Quite frankly, I thought that this is what happens in hip-hop anyway? Here are some copied tweets (or messages, I dunno) that Illseed put up from Wyldfyer himself:

# By the way, yalls favorite HIP HOP producers have been hitting me all day like, “shyts MAAAAD similar”. I just put it out there. 10:57 PM Jul 6th

# @DONJULIO1 @theforce_ But I HOPE they “outdid” me. Shit, its like 4-5 of them and just ONE of me. That say something about ME! 10:56 PM Jul 6th

# @DONJULIO1 @theforce_ I just put it out there for the world to know and make they own minds up…I even said that their song is DOPE 10:55 PM Jul 6th

# And today I hear THIS? http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/multimedia__music/archive/2010/07/06/22288880.aspx “I QUIT!!!” 8:38 PM Jul 6th

# Buuuuuut, i send THIS beat to Ross 3 months ago http://www.sendspace.com/file/fg4af9 … 8:38 PM Jul 6th

# Im already getting phone calls, LOL. SMH! I cant do it, mane! Not if n***as aint playin fair. If its coincidence? COOL! Dope Record. 8:37 PM Jul 6th

# @NativeOfVA bout to post it now! Cant be THIS much coincidence in the FUCKING world! n***as wanna get grimy? Ok. 8:27 PM Jul 6th

…which leads us to the evidence…take a listen to both and decide for yourself:

‘Maybach Music 3’:

Wyldfyer’s beat in question:

Coincidence? Maybe we’ll hear more about this soon…

Eminem Sound Checks @ Frauenfeld Openair Festival

Seems like all the top hip-hop artists are in Europe, right now…from NMC:
Marshall takes the main stage to sound check in preparation for tonight’s headlining gig at Frauenfeld Openair Festival. The performance will mark his first across the pond in over 5 years. Em will also be performing July 10th at Scotland’s T in the Park and July 11th at Dublin, Ireland’s Oxegen Festival.

Kanye West x Lebron James

Look who showed up to the media fiasco.
Personally, I think Lebron is an intelligent player who can 1) do whatever the hell he whats (who said he owed Cleveland anything? I mean really) and 2) give the most political correct answers that have ever come from an athlete at such a critical time (maybe). Anyway, good luck to him, Wade & Bosh in Miami, because regardless of that move, that team still has some rebuilding to do, particularly coming from the bench.
Sports blog this ain’t, but since Kanye cares, I figured I’d say my own opinion on the matter as well. As for Cleveland…..
::steps off soapbox::
Check out more pics and Twitter reactions after the jump.

Possible Leak In Kanye’s Camp, G.A.J. Tracklist?

Wow. What you see above is a possible screen supposedly lifted off of Hype Williams computer that shows what could be the tracklisting to Kanye’s Good Ass Job…this is crazy, man…here’s was Miss Info said about it:

Damn, the internets are a mofo. that is all….No, wait, that is not all. Ok, so this screengrab of Kanye’s album tracklisting surfaces. This means that someone has managed to hack into presumably Hype Williams’ network. That means that the entire album may be in their hands as well.
Mark my words, if the entire Kanye West album leaks months early, not via an email hack, but a private network hack….I think this will be a watershed moment for music piracy and online security.
You can see an enlarge version of the screen grab here. Technology at it’s worst and at its finest…album release date is still 9/14.
