A chill and relaxed track by Taiwanese artist Gill Chang. The track is very diverse but probably best described as a more relaxed and lighter dub-step. It’s definitely worth a listen regardless of your opinion on dubstep, this sounds like something new.
OnlyOne – No Futur
Another track by Moose Records, this instrumental is by OnlyOne. “No Futur” starts off with a lovely piano that morphs into a bouncing track with a great beat. It’s a nice listen that’s relaxing and cool.
Fenech Soler – Somebody (Farrow Remix)
A remix of the excellent track Somebody by Fenech Soler. The remix done by Leeds artist Farrow. is a dancier version of a dancey song full of reverb and delay. Pretty soon it gets cerebral and bouncy, never peaking too much. An excellent cut.
Tantalus – The Abyss Mix
Tantalus gives us a great run down of some of what’s new in Hip Hop and Bass as well as some older songs he’s been digging as well. “The Abyss Mix” has songs from Kendrick, Zeds Dead, Tokyo Daimo and more…
Brodinski – Interviews ft. ILOVEMAKONNEN & Yung Gleesh
Brodinski’s upcoming album is gonna be crazy. Yung Gleesh and Makonnen are a good fit on this track. Gleesh killed it with these new flows.
Figure – Destiny Awaits
Figure really has video game music with explosion-like Dubstep drops and DnB speed BPMs down pat (see last year’s Nintendo TMNT-themed “Cowabunga.”) You can either download “Destiny Awaits” for free or buy it on iTunes…
Meek Mill – Burn (Tantalus Remix)
Did you ever want a version of the song “Burn” without Big Sean? Surely the answer is yes. Do you ever feel like you need more Dubstep drops in your life? Either way, this track is for you, it has great drops and drum programming, catchy synths and an inspiring outro from DJ/producer Tantalus. Enjoy
Flying Lotus & Doom – Masquatch
Doom and Flylo drop an eerie one that was originally on the new GTA V soundtrack.
Hudson Mohawke – Chimes ft. Future, French Montana, Pusha T, & Travi$ Scott (Radio Rip)
Hot 97 Premieres a remix to that Hudson Mohawke song from the Apple commercial that features some rap heavyweights.
Kevin Gates & Rustie – Wait In Line
In a surprise move, Converse links Kevin Gates with well-known British DJ/Producer Rustie for an Electro-Rap jam.
4Bidden – Shogun, Salvation
4Bidden leaks two new tracks; Shogun” which is eerie and more Grime-oriented and “Salvation” which is upbeat and more like “Future Bass.”
GoldLink Joins SBTRKT’s Album Tour
4Bidden – Sky Grid
4Bidden really puts the “Future Bass” in Future Bass. 4Bidden makes better Grime when he doesn’t even make Grime. 4Bidden is Swedish so of course he’s talented. Fuck it, just listen.
Diplo – As I Lay Dying
Thanks to Rolling Stone We get to hear a 10-year-old Diplo track that was cut from Florida, his critically acclaimed 2004 debut album. Halfway between Trap and RJD2, “As I Lay Dying” sounds both modern and old in ways only Diplo could pull off. On the 10-year-anniversary of Florida, the album will be re-released with more never-before-heard tracks from the studio session, including a remix version of “Into The Sun”, which you can also hear above.
Rusko – Lytah
Thump premieres a new ’90’s Rave-style track from Rusko who said this about his latest tune; “While listening to “Lytah” you should play air piano, sing along and pretend you’re in a field in the 90s with glowsticks in your hands.”
Trillectro 2014 Mixtape
DJs Spicoli and Kidd Marvel drop the 2014 Trillectro mixtape, with tracks, verses and remixes from everybody performing this year. You can still buy tickets at Trillectro.com.
BAR9 – Start Listening
EDM.com presents with a great new Bar9 track for free. The Dubstep/Electro doing has a great track that is both filthy and danceable…enjoy.
4Bidden – Ghost Rocket
One of my favorite grime producers (no exaggeration) drops a new track and expands upon his signature sound. “Ghost Rocket” is a new track off of an upcoming demo from the elusive producer.
Skream – Filth (DarkElixir Bootleg Remix)
I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything by DarkElixir on this site. He’s a great DJ and producer, and probably doesn’t get enough credit alongside people like Crizzly for doing the “Trap” sound before it was called and before it sounded terrible. Unfortunately he’s retiring and selling off the last of his equipment, which is a huge disappointment. He still has one last remix to drop. A bootleg mix of an old Skream tune “Filth”. Apparently he’s offered the download for free. I’m having trouble downloading it but hopefully that’ll work itself out.
Dr. Ozi – Mental Giant
Magnetic Mag just premiered this crazy Dubstep track from Canadian Electronic duo Dr. Ozi. As MM writer Matthew Meadow pointed out, the sampled chops and vocal jabs have a Pogo feel to them, making the track a little bouncier than typical Dub. Definitely worth checking out…
MINI-REVIEW: Two Tracks From An Upcoming Rusko EP
Thump premiered to new Rusko tracks over the weekend from an upcoming EP. While the tracks had Rusko’s typical bounce and funky feel to them, the veteran DJ and producer has managed to move past limitations like genre and BPM to create some crazy new tunes. “Rusko’s Theme” and “My Style” are great examples of likeable Dance music that is bass-heavy and a little poppy with elements of jazz and 8-bit as well. Enjoy and keep an eye out for an upcoming Rusko EP. “Rusko’s Theme”, an ode to vintage video games, isn’t to 8-bit to be danceable and “My Style” sounds like a Trap track at first…but then horns and wobbles come in, turning it into something else.
Kahn – Congo Beat The Drum Remix (Snippet)
Bristol Grime madman Kahn put his own touch on UK production legends Kalbata & Mixmonster’s title track from their 2013 Roots Reggae Album. Featuring Major Mackeral, we’ll have to wait for a full version of this remix sometime soon.
Skism – Never Say Die Vol. 3 Mix (Presented by UKF)
Skism’s label “Never Say Die” has dropped their third compilation of Bass and Dubstep records (in conjunction with UKF.) To celebrate, he did a huge mix of songs from the compilation and some other songs from frequent collaborators at Circus Records (home of Flux Pavillion, Doctor P, Funtcase, etc), Disciple (Bar 9 and others) and Big Tuna (Trampa). Basically, some of the biggest names in making Dubstep what it was/is and expanding the huge Bass genre. This is a crazy mix, definitely something worth checking out if you’re into Grime, “EDM”, basically anything Dance or Electronic. Enjoy and support by purchasing the compilation here.
