From WWD, where you can read much more on the story:
Thanks to rapper Jason “IDK” Mills and nonprofit No Label, 25 students from diverse backgrounds who’ve earned a spot in an innovative educational course under No Label Academy are going to be dressed in Dior.
It’s a new kind of linkup for the fashion house and new kind of class for the Ivy League campus: With No Label Academy, IDK has created a new definition of higher education, one that’s focused more on a higher purpose and less on the traditional tenets of classroom teaching.
“Basically, I saw what I thought was a hole in the education system that didn’t really serve people who come from a different background,” IDK told WWD. After his own stint in prison, he said he learned what he needed to know to be successful in the music business and felt it was something he could teach others.
First off: big congrats to Gervonta “Tank” Davis, who shook his opponent to the point of temporary blindness. Second: it’s amazing to see how everyone came out to D.C.’s Capital One Arena to make the event as important as it was, and it’s hopeful that there will be more to come in the future. Just don’t give Meek Mill any drinks.
Anyway, check out who was in the building below.

Congrats goes out to D.C.’s young genius designer Malik Jarrett, CEO of the popular EAT clothing brand. Today, he officially releases his collaboration with New Balance (EAT 990’s), exclusively sold through Shoe City. Unfortunately, if you’re reading this, you’re probably going to lose out — the $200 sneaks are in pretty limited numbers and were only made in sizes 8 to 12 (for now).
Black Compass Group (BCG) Clothing Co. is a newly curated lifestyle brand developed for men and women who love to add uniqueness, quality, and authenticity to their wardrobe. Originating in Washington, DC, Black Compass came to fruition in the fall of 2015. Founded and created by Washingtonian B. Shaw, Black Compass designs are trusted and innovative, inspired by one who highly appreciates hats and outerwear. Known for always wearing and having a special love for hats since his mom began outfitting him in head wear as early as one month after birth; B. Shaw has taken his 30 year passion for this accessory a step further. Extremely analytical by trade, Black Compass has allowed him to expose his opposite side which develops creative gifts which flow freely from thought to design and completion.
As analytical as one may be, no one knows all of the answers to life. This sentiment is the basis of the name “Black Compass”. We all aim for guidance to help us navigate through time, and a tool to aid the avoidance of life’s unknowns and adversity would be ideal. The same can be said for fashion; we get dressed each day wanting to present ourselves to the world and exhibit our best self, which is primarily expressed through what we wear. We need a compass to show us what to do, where to go, what to avoid, and sometimes, what to wear.
Not kidding. From NYMag:
Now that the election is over, it’s pretty easy to tell who was in favor of which candidate (based on your reaction, of course). But we’re not just learning who supported whom — we’re also learning what supported whom. While Hillary Clinton commanded the support of many a fashion designer and influencer during her campaign, it turns out Donald Trump has the support of at least one sneaker company: New Balance. The company’s vice-president of public affairs told a Wall Street Journal reporter that the company felt that the Obama administration turned a “deaf ear” to them, and they feel as if things will “move in the right direction” with Trump.
Trump spoke out heavily against the Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership, or TPP, while on the campaign trail. For its part, New Balance has critiqued the agreement for its impact on business stateside, so it’s little surprise to learn the company is happier with a president-elect who wants to do away with the deal.
So, DC, Maryland and (maybe) Virginia…how are y’all going to act? UPDATE: New Balance has responded…
